I loved this. Funnest thing is just rewatching it and just pay attention to the band in the back LOL that Red head isn't laughing at NOTHING. Its like she woke up that morning with the plan "I will not break no matter how funny this guy is"

Nah, she did an interview about this and is just super chill.
She mentioned that throughout the week she sees the set at least 2 times beforehand, so it makes sense.
Apparently she’s always like that and she had already heard his monologue a few times so it makes more sense with that context
He didn't "make it" cuz he did SNL. It's SNL that needed him.
You are one my favorite "reactors" because you are so real. I have no idea where you live but clearly you have the proper moral character. Jokes are jokes, credit is given when it is earned. Shane is a true goodboy at heart. It's a shame there are so many people with these with victimhood "problems" that cannot accept that. The R word exist for a reason and should be used and accepted when appropriate.

One of my first job was working with down syndrome children in a special needs day camp counselor. Best job I ever had. If you were having a bad day coming to work, it didn't last long. It was almost therapeutic. The children always had a good way of looking at things. They are born with an extra chromosome number 21. I think we are blessed by these individuals who have such open hearts who just enjoy life.

I had a great uncle that had down syndrome, and he was a source of joy and humor
I saw someone somewhere say that the cheering was authentic but also what you hear on this video is actually mixed to sound like more people cheered than actually did live. Keep in mind this is in the heart of NYC where a lot of folks get super offended extremely easily. That's what his comments were about when he mentioned seeing how many people weren't happy, and that he thought some of his jokes would do better. The crowd was made up of, in part, people who are really touchy about stuff. It's too bad, really. Still, his video for this monologue did *much* better than a lot of recent guest hosts' monologues for SNL.
He has been a football coach, kind of. the skit Gilly and Keeves The Last White Football Team - one of the funniest things he has done

He is the new incarnation of Norm. Just the way he says something and the facial expressions makes it funny. I miss Norm Macdonald.
The reason he was making comments about how bad it was going was because the only people laughing that whole monologue were his family and friends that came to support him. He literally went to do standup in front of the worst audience he could have. A whole bunch of 'zero funny' New York uptights that were determined to not laugh. People have posted online about how the audience was dead silent except for the people who knew Shane, even though his jokes were great.
And then the news had the gall to say 'This is proof that Shane Gillis isn't funny' and tried to cancel him again.

Shane is funny as all get out. And he very much looks like he could be my old high school history teacher/wrestling coach! Here's the thing - if you can't joke about someone, you're not including them in your group. Making jokes about Downs Syndrome is inclusive.

The underlying joke about his dad being a coach is that no one watches girls basketball.
That, and he also has a bit about the double standard of athletic wear for girls sports. He pointed out that girls in some sports wear clothes that are often revealing, while girls in the special Olympics wear very baggy clothes by comparison.
I thought he was making a joke that his dad volunteers , with no pay, to go hang out with highschool girls.

This guy is reviving 90s comedy. The jokes feel so out of pocket cause he isn’t using the “soft language” we’ve become accustomed to. It’s not for everyone, but I laughed all the same.

Bikini coffee shops will always be more popular than a shop with special workers. But. Sensitive people will always focus on the special workers getting more jokes.
I'm sure the dead, virtue signalling crowd didn't help his nerves (I heard they added some laughter and applause to make those at home think he got a better response). But he still did great, and SNL probably got a lot better ratings than it has in a long time.

6:37 "not something to laugh about" . Take a deep breath, think about that for a sec. You laughed. Is that reaction not the proper one? Your mind came to the conclusion the joke was funny. Your neighbor might say its this and that, your own mind says its funny. Its funny, your neighbor can jump in a lake. If you at your core thought it was hateful, you wouldnt laugh.

the thing about this monologue is that the audience was not laughing, its all a laugh track.. thats why he keeps saying , you didn't find that funny, you're not laughing etc.
The fact that people are mad about this & still trying to bring him down, makes me enjoy it so much more 😂
