The INSTANT snap of the sticks absolutely killed me
The silence after that
@@LeeDee5 complete utter shock
Maaan I just *exploded* with laughter. I don’t know what he expected, but I don’t think he expected them to suck *that* much.
I just got to that part, and I laughed harder than I should at it.
I replayed that part like 4 times just because of how perfect that moment was. So much buildup and it breaks in one hit.
Seeing those sticks snap almost instantly upon use, and just his face of total disbelief of how absolutely cheap they were, and the laughter afterwards, totally made my day ten times danker. Keep it up.
Its old and cheap plastic, that thing is weaker than a twig!
Nevermind that I am surprised this didn't break right when he took it out of the box. It's 30+ year plastic and plastic don't last that long.
It did say to handle them gently and carefully. 3:56
The sticks are made for children and younger adults in 1985. The plastic has become brittle. They are cheap but they were not that cheap. I owned these in the 80s and they lasted longer than the amp did.
@@zembryozand what sound did they make😊
If you play the drums fast enough, you get the sweet sounds of an untuned FM radio 😂
Ah yes, amen breaks
I was thinking an 8-bit bit of Contra kit XD
Or the sound of a steam train going really fast
or that vietnam war meme
Lmao
@6:50 "you WORE TWO WATCHES FOR THIS?!!?"
the outrage. *chefs kiss*
Watching Wade absolutely burst out laughing at how cheap the sticks were is the best thing I've seen all day.
I just love it when he laughs at poorly made things in general 😂
I had incredibly low expectations for them, but they still disappointed me
I was already laughing just like that before he even began laughing 😂😂😂
*With the delay, after the confused/impressed/disappointed face
Yes
You know when your drumsticks are good when they sound like a cheap machine gun when you use them
Bruh it sounds like a person blowing into a microphone
Radio Shack sticks go BRRR
back in nam' simulator
my favourite moment was at 6:42, when the sticks provided percussion to your murderous rage and to their own impending doom.
I just BROKE DOWN laughing when the drumsticks hit. The anticipation, then they snapped, in less than 2 hits. Great content.
The sticks just breaking in a single hit made me uncontrollably laugh and made my terrible week great.
Who needs antidepressants when Wade’s laughter cures all
hi spamton
SAMMMEEEE
James May spec belly laugh
Ditto. That was hilarious.
Nothing is more classic then him saying “can you believe no one bought this?”
We need a shirt saying this
Almost as good as how he talks about having a drum thing which is his drum thing🤣
I've personally added it to my own vocabulary when I find something absolutely rubbish.
7:29 "Combo x999"
9:43 his laugh is so contagious. When he laughs I laugh too.
i love watching an australian man waffle VERY enthusiastically about assorted drum related topics
i do that every morning when i wake up
Same
I mean, he is a professional drummer with a music degree.
@@treiz01 Yeah, and it's fun to listen to someone who's passionate about what he does.
I also love an enthusiastic waffle
I remember I got these for Christmas the year they came out. I was SO disappointed! I kept them in a closet for years and years until I finally got my own drum set and then I cut the cables off the sticks and used them as regular drumsticks lol. They lasted about 2 minutes before they busted apart hahaha
that sucks
@RepentandbelieveinJesusChrist5 go to hell
Absolutely howling laughing at this but then nearly cried with how adorable Frank was when she popped her lil head out the box.
I had these as a kid. They were rad and there WAS a way to get more sounds out of them. I remember getting little laser sounds out of them. Problem was they sucked the energy out of a 9v so quickly I rarely played with the synthesizer on.
What universe are you from?
@Forthakine I did some looking he must of had hit “stix” 2 but this wasn’t made by radio Shack just sold by
I had these as a kid; while they never made for a great "drumming" experience, I always had a blast with them. They survived long enough to be passed on to someone else's kids!
I've still got mine! The tips are both broken off though. 😂
I guess they were never hit on a real drum 😂
@@sopwithhannah2401 No, I'm pretty sure that the instructions explicitly stated NOT to strike them on anything solid.
I had them as a kid too.
So stupid, but they were a blast.
I had some too. I loved the hell out of them. My mom...not so much.
It’s a surprise that Radio Shack went out of business with products like this.
can you believe it? they sold such good products am i right?
and then came back in the form of an embarrasing shitposting twitter account peddling crypto
@@Oh_Low Some stuff was actually good Zip Zaps were dope, and they were also one of the few physical locations that sold things like resistors and capacitors off the shelf. They did make some garbage like this though lmao
'Da memez', but these were from a toy company called Nasta and just rebranded for Radio Shack like most of their other electronics.
@Chillie being able to just run to a store and buy shit like capacitors and whatnot for building circuits is something we are missing now days. The only thing radio shack was good for :(
7:23, the satisfying taps of the sticks to just the TV static of the 'sticks' made me crack up,
8:24 the sudden cut to him screaming at frank, frank being frank and then disconnecting then danky screaming fraaaank... it was perfect lmaoo
I’ve never seen a one hit wonder drumstick before. Very impressive.
Oh. My god. You have solved a MYSTERY for me. My dad had these very ridiculous electronic drum sticks, and I used to mess around with them as a kid when I visited my grandparents. They disappeared at some point during my childhood and I could NEVER remember the name to find them again. I am hunting one down, that is ultimate nostalgia right there.
lol
Haha epic
"Disappeared" meaning your grand parents chucked them
@@SleepscapeSerenity haha that is definitely what my grandma thought my grandpa did! He never admitted it, but my grandma was far too sentimental to throw out any of my dad’s stuff 😂
09:37 lol
As a drummer I can confirm that sticks are the most important part of the drums.
“YOU WORE TWO WATCHES FOR THIS!?!?” May have killed me
Genuinely crying with laughter when the stick broke after one hit. You did well to hold in the laughter for as long as you did
I think that was a moment of actual shock and dismay. :-D
I had a set of these. Realized how "good" they were before I'd even gotten home from the mall.
There are so many running gags going on filled with so much wierd fun stuff in between. Love it!
Dank you're forgetting, these are 80s SYNTH drums. They're built specifically for your next Vanilla Ice drum gig!
iPod sticks: not motion activated, could work “fine” on the drums
RadioShack sticks: plays own sound, gets self-conscious when it sees a drum that could make a better sound than it, and therefore crushes under the pressure and embarrassment
Also hey look mom I’m in the livestream chat on a dankpods episode :D :fronk:
@ChazBuns do you recall which stream it was?
I had these and also a guitar type version. I loved the idea and quickly discovered how terrible they were at anything but sometimes making the noise when you wanted it with no real consistency in muscle memory
I feel like there are so many cool things we have been shown in the past that aren't in the Patreon that we never get to see and recently it's been a lot more kids toys and magazines even tho they are fun
my college course actually required me to buy that book and identify wood species. it was quite interesting learning how different they are
Its good!always good to know woods to work with!wich is go where.😆
These Hit Stix sounds like what you hear in a rhythm game when you activate the hit noise and play anything beyond medium difficulty.
I had these as a kid. I remember us having a lot of fun with these. These were not marketed to musicians, they were sold at Toys R’ Us for a bit before being re-released at Radio Shack.
There's something poetic about having a stack of cymbals on hand to chuck at the wall.
9:27LOL I love how Dankyboy needed a loooong time to process what just happened, before he laughed
also his hair is getting bigger than Fronk's snoody boopa
5:33 honestly, that would work better as a machine-gun sound affect 😂
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that!
a machine gun audio clip straight out of a SoundBlaster 16 and CGA Graphics, with some old lady speaking on a Nokia 3315 nearby causing some static noises on the speakers, yes.
I actually had some of these in the 80s. Yes they snapped at the orange to yellow transition, but they also go me into playing the drums too.
The sticks breaking immediately actually made me burst out in laughter. That was amazing.
I love the neon aesthetic. It's so cool to me idk.
Anyway, wade, you're amazing. I love you.
same lol
Memphis design is truly great!
Back in the day, I wanted a cheap electronic drum synth, and I got these as a gift. I regretted even asking for anything.
9:21 onwards has to be the greatest piece of cinematic comedy i have ever had the pleasure to witness
The moment the stick broke on the first hit and dankpods just sits there in disbelief is the funniest thing.
This makes me wonder how sticks made of a really hard wood like lignum vitae would work.
And yes thats an actual wood name.
Oh hey that’s our national flower
LOL LIGMA WOOD
Finally a machine to take Gmod collision noises with me on the go! Fantastic product.
I had some hit stix. That distortion pretending to be snare noise brings back the memories… of playing with them like 5 times, mostly to annoy people.
My older brother had a pair of these, I seem to remember theres a revised version that had switches on the sticks to change the sound. It's funny you're doing this as I thought about these like a day or two ago.
❤️ From a fellow Audio nerd and muso from Vic.
“This is the most over sold thing I ever handled”
That’s saying a lot, especially when you think of all the adventures with Craig…
7:07: drum sounds? Nah, my grandpa's old disel truck upon ye.
man I'm gonna need a 10 hour loop of you drumming on the table to fall asleep to that sounded so nice
My parents just went through my room and threw out all of my stuff after I failed school because I haven’t had access to my adhd medicine, (first because of the national shortage and then because a random psychiatrist we don’t go to somehow got my doctor to stop getting them for me without telling me) and now i’m depressed in a way I haven’t been in 5 years, so thank you for always being here to shine light on my darkest times.
Wow
Wade's infectious laughter is even more powerful when his face is on camera
they go so hard, unironically an amazing sound
Amen, brother. I'm gonna sample em.
think they just went raking through the bins trying to find literally any kind of chip that makes a noise lol
@@cleanycloth It sounds like the white noise generation on an NES, I wouldn't be surprised if it was literally white noise.
Dank pls go through the guts for us nerds and tell us if it's just a sad transistor cranked to the gills.
Listen to the intro of the song Poison by Bell Biv DeVoe, I swear it's the same sample
7:29 it's funny how even the sound of the rubber hitting the table makes a more coherent noise than the speaker
9:30 even the guy in the iPod is looking over in disbelief.
Very few videos manage a captivating introduction, gripping second act, and then finish with an absolutely exemplary climax. This really is peak entertainment content!
these are actually really interesting, 8-Bit Keys has a great video on a plug-in keyboard version of these for an 80s keyboard
well those were pretty decent for the time. i would kill to see dank do something with them
9:55 - He said it still works, yet the auto captions say otherwise: “It’s too late!”
That quiet disappointed stare after it broke sent me, what a fitting end to them
9:27 You should've hit the cymbol, that's the perfect "Ba-dum tss!" moment!
The instant snap was so funny.
But I remember watching my friend play the drums, there is nothing gentle about that instrument, most of the time you do just smash the heck out of it.
That why playing slow and gentle is hard for most drummers
From what I recall, these used off the shelf white noise generators, usually used as a 'noise channel' for some audio solutions, but also often used for random number generators as well.
I had to watch this video twice before realizing I actually had this as a kid. As you might expect, the box formed a memory at least as strong as using the actual device, and one of the things that memory shows me is distinctly putting it back in the box.
0:47
Ipad:
Daddy why must you hurt me so?
Great, now I'm imagining wearing denim socks. Thanks, Dank.
I was waiting for them to snap..... but when they snapped _IMMEDIATELY_ and then the stunned silence, that killed me
Bro I'm on a train. Don't hit me with that perfect comedic timing stick break. Actually made noise.
Professional nugget sticks from the 80s, amazing.
Dank, please please PLEASE do a showcase of all the stuff under the monitor!
I would legit love that so much
@@brandontechnerd some of us can't afford $1 a month. If I wanted to break mp3 players all the time i would buy them.
You reckon if Wade was a surgeon he'd open everyone up and say, "Aw they STINK!" every time?
We had a set of these as kids, can't remember actually ever using them with the battery in, the sound was obviously why! The plastic was a lot stronger when not 30 years old though, we used to use them as regular drumstickson pots and pans.
gotta say, the ipod sticks really set the bar high. I was all settled in ready for a smash session and they just biffed it so hard
7:13...my post-war PTSD kicked in 🤣
Thank you for covering Pepsi Man one last time. I know it's a pain in the ass to play cause it just keeps going, but I loved every minute of it everytime you covered it.
Had those as a kid, if you take out the board you can change out the resistors and make different sounds. All it really does is a causes a short in the tips each time you strike it.
Back when I played the drums like ten years ago I pretty much always used nylon tipped hickory sticks (I can't remember the brand, they had US interstate signs on them), though I never used LED ones, I want to get back into playing the drums and should still have a kit in storage, and I feel like my first experience should be with cheap clear jank plastic glowing sticks, and hey, now that I'm a hardware engineer I can mod them to make them even more tacky.
My day has been crap, that stick breaking single handedly made it, I watch all of your channels, you only make bangers, keep it up!
Made my day seeing Wade’s full body laugh. Like his whole body just really leans into it. So infectious.
I still refuse to believe DankPods is anything more than hands
The snap of the drumstick followed by pure silence could not be more comedic.
10:31 my favourite part of the entire video
25 dollars for good sticks and a bucket that my dad had lying around was how I started playing drums
I love whenever he shows something from his stream/just his stream studio it's 12 times more chaotic then anything he does in videos
Loving that perm-padour thing you got going on, man.
You throwing them down in anger and then making erratic noises making you madder is funny
I absolutely LOST IT when it snapped with a single hit
Thanks a lot for NOT recommending me this to me when it uploaded RUclips
One thing worth mentioning on the sticks breaking is that age really messes with plastics strength, there were a couple handles on a tool box made of plastic someone gave a coworker of mine at work that was pretty old that you could practically crumble to dust in your hands.
It all turns back into dinosaur particles.
It also really depends on the type of plastic and the environment they've been kept in. Wouldn't surprise me if these weren't stored in ideal conditions for keeping plastic strong haha
Crikey that was bloody enjoyable keep up the amazing work mate
I'm a drummer too, my uncle is the drummer for April Wine and yes! sticks are so important. They can change the way you play, the weight, density, length, diameter. I personally am a Pro-mark 2B hickory man, I went through a phase where every pair I'd buy was different so I've tried a lot of different sicks haha. The problem with these is you can't hear the accents, very important!
Very true. 1st are the sticks. 2nd is a drum key. I used to have this and it helped me understand how to snap your wrists and actually made me a better drummer In the one run
I've totally forgotten about them! 8-Bit guy had made a video about a keyboard using these ages ago
Just when I finish a Dankpods video Wade comes out and throws me another. Very D A N K
I like how it sounds better without the batteries inside
They snapped like a stick of asparagus.
Omg I remember these. It's a culmination of everything you've trained for!
I just laughed uncontrollably for a good few minutes after the sticks just snapped immediately, beautiful.
Had these as a kid! Also had a swatch watch(on packaging) as well as a swatch protector.
I miss my Swatch watch and protector.
I’m not sure which was worse, the sound it made or the advertisement photos 😂😂😂
