Just want to tell you I love the video especially the part the mom came back to you I just lost my mom and And it's very difficult for me But hearing your mom in the background put a smile on my face You have no idea What kind of smile did I have But just want to say thank you 73
I understand this radio has a port for a GPS antenna to plug into. However, I don't see any info about the size of this port. Where can I get the info about it? I have an external GPS antenna that has an SMA connector, so I'd like to know what (if any adaptor) I could get to connect the GPS antenna to this radio.
The best place to look for accurate information is in the user manuals on the Yaesu website (bit.ly/3CVUZ5t), or ask Yaesu directly through their support channels (bit.ly/3Mx8awS). I also did a Google search for "FTM-300DR external GPS" and found this page: bit.ly/3sb98FL
Thanks a lot Katie. Always learn a lot with your videos. I bougth 2 days ago my new transceiver Yaesu FTM-300D and is very useful for me. Regards from Madrid - SPAIN- 73 -EA4LW
The only thing what I do not like, is the SO-239 female connector, bad looses & impedance for over 300Mhz. Why not N-Connector, like in the Europe version in some FT models?
About 16 Months ago, I bought an FTM 100 D. The radio itself is fine, but it has issues for me in terms of my Diabetic Eyes, and Aspergers Syndrome. So I am selling the FTM 100. When that deal is done, I probably WILL get a new 300.
@@HamRadioOutlet THANK YOU for the nice reply. I think, based on the reviews I've seen that the 300 MAY be easier to program and operate than the FTM-100.
The manual says it requires 13.8V at least 15A, so any quality power supply of at least 15A would work. Samlex and Astron both make great 20A supplies. Something like this would work: www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-012070 or www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-004427
Nice presentation Katie. Shame Yaesu punted on memory management, and had to disable the touch screen display (which is the same on FT3D). The 3D screen dumps noise into the receiver. Please do another review when Icom makes their next D-Stat rig announcement. Hope the Icom rig will be produced other than in China. Hello to Mom.
Katie was the Social Media Manager at HRO until October 2020. HRO has 13 stores nationwide, but we also have a large internet presence. You don't have to work on location at our HQ in CA to do internet work... so her commute was non-existent.
I mean surely you have a short vid lined up atleast dropping you deposit requirements n specs on the rig ?? Maybe taking a demo model and the at120 on a mobile rig to a Am antenna transmitter site and showing the dx10 receiver working in the most extreme.
skip to 2:30 I will keep my ftm-400, thank you very much, since the 300's screen lacks the visual pleasantness of the 400. If I was to down grade on the next radio I would buy a 'used' ftm-100, If I was to go cheaper, the FTM-100 is a better deal. Unless you run APRS, then buy the FTM-400.
It's a detachable head unit. It attaches firmly to the body, or can be remote mounted. Katie kept the control head off the radio so she could more easily show the display.
Been trying to figure out where it's made for a week now. Be nice if somebody could give a straight answer. I own 4 Japanese made Yeasu radios and like them all. If 300 is china made, it's about $200 overpriced imho.
KK7ART hey art, we have talked before on the 5.29 repeater. Anyway I’ve seen the sticker on the bottom. It’s China. And yes Yaesu seemed to have raised the price on the 400 to make the 300 look like a less expensive, feature rich option at the cost of killing off the 100.
it is total downgrade. Notice they (yaesu) jacked the 400's price up 80 bucks to cram this into the price point that the 100 was perfectly positioned at.
@@linaskerbelis5636 And the 400 has a touch screen, which by the way is a lot bigger and many more brightness levels. But you even admitted the the 300 and 400 were basically the same with including a comment of a smaller screen, yet you asked 'how so'.
@@onemarktwoyou I am interested in the 300 simply for the smaller size and less touch screen more physical buttons to be used in my 4x4 driving over bumpy terrain etc. Besides being made in China (boo) is there any other drawback? Price is no issue.

Hope you enjoy your new radio, however, Katie hasn't worked for HRO in 4 years!
I'm curious... Jason (Ham Radio 2.0) had trouble with the head unit staying attached. I noticed you didn't attach it. Any problems?
There's a Facebook Group with tons of information about the FTM-300:
facebook.com/groups/ftm300d
other than a smaller head unit, what is the difference from the FTM-400?
The only thing what I do not like, is the SO-239 female connector, bad looses & impedance for over 300Mhz. Why not N-Connector, like in the Europe version in some FT models?
BNC would have been fine.
Love it! Great presentation Katie!
Thanks so much!

Hi Bruce, sorry to hear about your eye issues. Hopefully the FTM-300DR display will work better for you.

Hey Katie
Please help me decide which one and what really is the difference. The gym 300 or 7250dr
What is cheap power supply I can use for onside use
Question can I use my tardy ft65r with the 300dr
With this radio can you program frequencies with alpha numeric labels for repeaters like you can with FT3D?
Yaesu USA just put out a new video on this radio. Check it out for more in-depth details ruclips.net/video/CW4o7cX-Nwc/видео.html
so, what I dont get...the face plate cannot be attached directly to the body? It's always disconneted?
Oh, it definitely can be attached. We just didn't dive that deep for this video. Sorry for the confusion.

This is a very old video and Katie is no longer with HRO. Happy operating! 73.

how is it like the ft3
I got mine from HRO Plano, TX. Dave Caldwell was my advisor there. Nice gent. KI5IQE
I’m confused. You’re with HRO but live in Wyoming? That’s quite a commute!

Just let the fac3 of the radio hang on cables. Good idea.
It doesn't. It attaches to the body of the radio. It was left off so that the radio's control head would show up on camera more easily.
Ok, big whoop. Open the stores so we newbies can go shopping.
Will it cross-band repeat?
Yes. Ham Radio Concepts has a video on the feature.
are they releasing 400DR anytime soon?
The FTM-400XDR is available. Here is a link for you www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-014544
Need a FtDx10 review maybe you can talk John into sending me one for review 😉😉

Nobody shows it receiving an APRS position to see how it shows that.... :-(
great little radio. works good for me, best regards from the UK.
Well there’s two cross band repeat? I believe that’s what it’s called I may have the verbiage off a little bit

Muy buena información! Muchas gracias 👍
fantastic thanks 73 from kb2uew
Sorry I hate to disappoint you but the screen is too damn small why couldn't they make a screen like the 400
Good info, too bad the face is detached. Seem inconvenient just hanging there on a short wire.

14.2 V😨 ... Nice Radio.73
thank God they included resistors :) anyways its ugly and small display. an FT3D in a box.
I mean inside use
I already answered your question when you asked it on the other video.

Screen Hurts my eyes. Best part was watching her test the radio.
Not a big fan.. It feels like a downgrade from my ftm-400xdr
it is total downgrade. Notice they (yaesu) jacked the 400's price up 80 bucks to cram this into the price point that the 100 was perfectly positioned at.
How so? The only difference is bigger screen on 400

The 300 is not a downgrade of the 400. It's the replacement of the ftm100 and an upgrade from the black and white of the ftm100.
