- Snidely was an animatronic imprisoned in a small jail cell towards the entrance of each Bullwinkle's Restaurant. He'd beckon guests to let him out and make comments about people on their way in.
This was the 3rd Snidely animatronic built by AVG Technologies. It was installed at the Santa Clara location after the original animatronics built by The One & Only Animation Company were taken out and replaced by AVG's.
Fantastic! As a huge fan of the restaurant and the animatronic, it's so good to see Snidely in such good shape after all these years!
I worked at Bullwinkles as a kid, then into Management and let me tell you how many times I've heard Snidely yap at me for about 6 years back in the late 80's, but his last one liner has stuck in my brain since 1983, which starts at 12:40.
Who knew he'd have that much of an impact on my brain.
It's going to be hard to do that, you know. Treat all hard-core adult pornography like confiscated property. It's amazing that Snidley Whiplash was never in charge of a nightclub where showgirls perform naked sometimes.

It's also amazing that Snidley Whiplash isn't the former New York governor, Bill DeBlasio.
Memories! This does solve the mystery for me after all these years. As a very youngster, I have a specific recollection of talking with Snidely about ways of helping him escape (a bunch of other kids around me were shouting suggestions to him through the bars). Years later as an adult, I wondered if he was really responding to us directly (was there some staff member voicing it interactively?) or we were just dumb kids shouting at a machine. Got my answer 😊
If you’re talking about the Bullwinkle’s Restaurant in Santa Clara on Lawrence Expressway, that might be the case! The Snidely animatronic there could be controlled by an operator behind the scenes. The operator could control the animatronic’s movements with a joystick and speak to the audience with a microphone. Unfortunately that animatronic was taken out and replaced with the one you see in this video, and the interactive features left with it. Very cool story!

I love this! I wonder why they didn't make him green like in the cartoon. Either way, he's fantastic, as is your restoration work!
There exists one that actually colored him that way. I believe it was Dreammation that did it though or it was a later AVG one.
I grew up up going to the Bullwinkles in Upland, and this thing scared the crap out of me every time. Sitting there in his jail cell, rocking back-and-forth on his barrel. Or maybe it was Hans Conried. That guy played the voice of so many villains.

This is Corey Burton, Hans Conried unfortunately passed away a couple of months before Bullwinkle’s was created.
Is that Hans Conried's voice?

@@sonicfan91 Like I said before about Snidley Whiplash, he simply doesn't reason like the way the horror story novelist Stephen King does. He doesn't create these horror stories like the way Stephen King did. He doesn't freak people out like the way Stephen King did.
