What are you getting for your setup in 2020? Let's get it!
What do you have for space on your Mac mini’s internal hard drive? Do you feel it’s enough/not enough? Better to have more internal drive space than external?
@@tyler28333 Great question. I ordered it with 1TB SSD Internal, and the smallest amount of RAM. The upgraded is for way cheaper by doing it myself. I run a second SSD that's 2TB as my second work drive, giving me 3TB SSD to work from. It's great. I do all of my 'Storage' on HHD drives, I keep a 5TB, 6TB, and 4TB, on my orico dock with my 2TB SSD. One is a backup, another is a redundant backup, and then the other is just for video production storage. It's a lot. Everything works super well and I don't have any performance issues or transfer problems. Cheers!
Really cool studio man, I’m in the midst of building mine now.. just finishing up plaster on the walls.. Ive been thinking to get high end carpet for the floor. It’s cozy and acoustically beneficial. I’m also looking to get new monitors. I’m thinking of the Focal alpha 80s. I want to do some good sound treatment to the room as well.
Juno 60 and Juno 106
A studio desk, speaker stands and a daw controller! 👐👐👐
This studios got character, I love it!
I love everything having to do with music production and audio engineering. Dude thank you for showing us all the stuff you have. Your commentaries on each gadget really brings value!
Thank you very much! Comments like these keep me motivated to make more!
Your setup is fresh dude! I just have the m-audio keyboard and a simple interface haha.
Thanks dude! Sometimes that's all you need.
@@AndrewMasters Oh for sure. No complaints here :D
i only have some 6$ headphones lol
Nothing's missing. I love your room and setup. I am actually moving to Nashville in 2 months for the same reason. Lived there 10 years ago and luckily am moving back. My wife said once I sealed the deal for sure I could move back. I actually just placed an order today for a wa73eq and a bus compressor, can't wait for those to arrive. I have been looking to add an additional 8 channels to my apollo and was wondering if you notice a huge sonic difference between that and the scarlett. I have 2 of them sitting at work marked really cheap, and was just curious
There is a significant difference. There definitely is a law of diminishing returns. But for me using the apollo x8p and the scarlett allows me to prioritize the sources that I need to sound best! Good luck with those purchases! I''m pumped for you.
Can't wait to make one of these myself in 2021 when I move into my new space
Love it.. Thanks for showing it to us..
Thank you for checking it out!
Just discovered your channel - loving it! I've been a producer/engineer for about 8 years now, and I'm just entering the youtube realm, starting to do some tutorials, gear reviews, etc. Your stuff is great!
Thank you!
Andrew Masters do you have any RUclips advice for me?
Very professional setup! GI GI
Why thank you Carol!
Well that was fun! From mostly frozen Ireland! ☘️ ☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
Very down to Earth setup. Got stuff but not the most expensive things out there.
Slingerland! Heck yeah. My buddy has 3. He’s crazy like that. Took him a while to find them and fix some of them up. They all sound incredible. He is a big band leader. Sounds perfect for jazz big band style.
I liked and suscribe the instant you said the model of your drums... just awesome!
Haha thanks! They’re solid!
An eKit and Superior drummer. I will never mic a drum kit again. I’m tired of all the mics and inputs and cables. I won’t sell my acoustic kit but the EKit and superior, takes care of all my need and more. So nice to just switch out a snare or cymbal in post. I’m all in the box now. My acoustic is the Yamaha silent acoustic. My amps are all in the box for bass and guitar. It’s perfect for in the box. I upgraded my monitors to the Kali 8in woofers. I mix with headphones now, and switch from headphones to monitors back and forth. I have hearing loss, so I need as many points of reference I can get. I’m planning on upgrading my interface, and since I don’t need a million mic pres now, I might go with an Apollo twin, or the new Zen Go, I also plan to get a big knob but the small passive one. It’s like 69 bucks. I also plan on a Neve preamp, and finally I don’t need it but I want a control surface.
Sick man! Dope studio
Enzo Music thank you!
I used to be all in on pro tools too, but made the switch to logic about a year ago and haven't had any issues after getting over the curve! I probably still like tracking in pro tools but as far as making music logic is SO much better!
Oh and you dont have to break the bank to stay up to date with the mac os!
Still all in on Mac...well except for my phone galaxy all day!
Nice! Yeah, Logic is fantastic for songwriting. I don't know about that android business though... You're breaking the ecosystem!
Ok, you have the best studio on the planet :)
Well, that’s nice! Certainly far from reality but very nice! I’m very pleased with it.
I’m hoping to grab some new monitors and a sub this year! Definitely want to test out those 65’s soon. I’d also like to add an sm7 to my little mic collection. My go to right now, is an AT2035, so definitely need to upgrade there. Also, if I don’t have that output desk by 2021, I’ve failed.
Haha all great purchases!
Great studio set up!
Thanks!
I love Studio tours
Maybe I recommend you to put in some diaphramatic absorbers to really trear the bass so you can get tight, clean and super controlled low end.
I love the desk
Thank you. The desk is awesome.
Great video, love those Focals. Next time could you explain how you setup your audio interface to the Mac Mini and monitors out. Also wondering how you manage to isolate instruments when tracking, especially electric guitar and bass. Thanks man!
Thank you, me too. Do you mean how they are connected? As in the cabling?
@@AndrewMasters I guess it would help if my qestion was a bit more specific. :-) I use a MOTU 4pre over FW to an 2012 Mac Mini (great little machine after I swapped out the drive for a SSD). I have my Focal Alpha 50s connected to the 4pre the main outs. But need to keep the Motu unit on should just want to listen to iTunes or YT so wondering how else I can set up audio options? Also wondering when tracking how you isolate electric guitars when recording using a mic'd amp? Do you listen to rest of mix using headphones while playing?
@@thesoulshakers A great solution could be a monitor station. I would recommend the presonus monitor station. amzn.to/37GcT9o
This is the one that colors your playback the least and it's super affordable.
You can run several sources and output them to your speakers. Have an aux from your headphone out going into one source, the daw going into another and all going to your speaker outs.
@@AndrewMasters I’m late to your comment but I’d love to see you discuss “the cabling schematic” of your current set up Drew
I love my Output desk as well. I got the dark wood and like a week after mine arrived they came out with the grey wood *crying*. For 2020 I'd like a "keyboard/gear dresser", upgrade my Maschine, new monitors, of course Output monitor stands to match, Moog Grandmother, Korg Wavestate and get some servicing done on my older gear (Roland mks-7, Casio CZ101, Yamaha DX100, Korg Wavestation & Triton Extreme, Tascam DA30mkII, DA38 & 202mkIII)
Hell yeah
Great Video!
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Hi from Ireland!!! Great setup and videos - we enjoyed your studio build video immensely - might even steal a few ideas for our build from yours if you don't mind! Keep up the great work!!
Please do!
Andrew, love your videos and studio! Watched your studio construction vid and got really inspired. Sorry for the non music related question, but what are you editing your videos on?
Thanks!!
Started in fcpx, switched to premiere pro in august 2019, used it until December 2020 switched back to fcpx, now I have an editor for the studio tour videos who uses davinci. Just keep changing it up!
@@AndrewMasters I’ve heard great things about Davinci... even the free version. Thanks, Andrew. Keep up the great work!
Love the video! I'm curious if you have any problems with your desk as far as monitor position; I have a similarly shaped desk with a shelf for the monitors and computer monitor but i hear little to no bass in the "sweet spot," but if i back up 2-3 feet i can hear the bass just fine
That's a pretty good question, I haven't tested that but I had some low end issues in my previous room. I will say I made a pretty large cloud that hangs just above my desk which solved my low end troubles.
so warm and comfy, addictional loys for a coffee-bar) put some green plants man!!
It was incredible bro congrats I love your studio
Thank you!
I’d recommend you invest (if you haven’t yet) in a perfect chair. Stay healthy and comfortable in a good chair. I’d also invest in quality coffee every time. (Im curious which coffee you buy). Life is too short for whatever coffee. Just my $0.02.
haha sometimes I want to get a chair to lean back in. My drum stool forces me to sit up straight and keep my posture in line. I jump between two brands of coffee! They're both organic and low acid. I drink coffee almost all day so if it isn't those two things it's pretty rough after a few hours.
Tell us more about the Green Day guitar!
There is a cool story behind it! Maybe I’ll do something on that.
Yeah!! Tell us
Great setup man.. but I got you beat. 😂😂😂. I’m in Nashville as well. Been here all my life. Love to come to your studio bro.
Yo man! Great studio! How about a U87 next? Staple mic but pricey tho. Another thing I didn't see was a P bass. P basses are a must have for recording cause of how well they sit in a mix! Even a squier'll do!
Haha I’m taking donations! Thanks for the comment!
@@AndrewMasters Thanks for the reply! You got another sub! XD
Killer setup! I had one of those Warm Audio 1073 clones, but I recently sold it since I found myself using the Universal Audio 1073 plugin almost all the time. I’m curious if you’ve compared the two, and if so, which do you prefer and why?
Thanks! I'll use the 273 going into the apollo if I'm doing overdubs but if I'm tracking drums, it's going into my focusrite for the additional channels. It helps out what the scarlett lacks for channels 9-10 which happen to be my room mics.
1073 is money!
Nice man I use the Mac mini with 64gb ram and I got a razer x EGPU for video editing
How’s the egpu? Did it make a big difference?
@@AndrewMasters It's incredible. I do huge editing sessions with no problem at all.
Great setup - nice choices of accessible (not too dear) but characterful equipment. I wonder about the Big Knob though - has a bit of a rep for adding colour to the signal. I have a 'passive' monitor controller - much cleaner though perhaps not so versatile (no talkback). Love the vibe of the space: the smell of fresh coffee and calm lighting - tumeke! (Maori for Awesome)
Thanks! Yeah, the big knob.. oy. Hopefully someone from dangerous audio sees the video and sends me a better piece. lol!
If you are looking to getting more mics check out Roswell Pro Audio Mini K47 and/or Mini K87. Spectaculars mics with a great price.
The designer of you Groove Tubes mic was a dear friend of mine. That's a very special mic, cherish it.
That’s so cool! Thank you, still have original box and everything.
Great studio setup! I think the Mackie is the weak link in your studio. I would consider that as your next upgrade.
Jeff Hirata totally agree!
Can you make a video how you Hooked up your apollo to the focusrite
Awesome channel. I’m about to undergo a build in my home, and have two available rooms, so I’m toying with a one-live & one-dead/mixing setup. My biggest issue is where to put the drums. In your experience is it easier to add reverb to a dead recording, or isolate within a live room depending on the needs for a song? I was planning on using the kit in a live room, but I really love your setup.
Dope Studio my man. Hugs from Colombia. Let me know when you're here to make music and grab a burger. Cheers
I have what I think is a simple question and I hope you can answer it. I am new to home recording, I recently purchased a Zoom R16 and a pair of JBL powered monitors. I (actually we) record to the SD card. I also just purchased Presonus Home Studio 5 Artist which I want to use for my editing and final mixing/mastering. We will record the tracks dry on the Zoom.
Because of my room dynamics the Zoom is located in a different location than my desktop computer. I want to be able to connect a 2nd set of monitors directly to my computer so I can hear what I am doing thru the monitors and I do not know how to do it. My preference would be to install a card in my computer that I could connect the cables to but I do not know if that exists so I am guessing a simple audio interface may be what you suggest. I know the Zoom can double as an audio interface but I do not want to be moving it back and forth.
At this point I do not need an audio interface for input into the DAW. I just want to be able to hear what I am working on thru monitor speakers.
Thanks
Cool vid. I enjoyed the tour.... Soooooo... you asked for what we think you should add to your studio....You did not mention it, but I assume that you have them. Soooooo... if you do, then ignore my recommendation. I lost two primary computers because I thought these things were just snake oil and pet rocks. lol... Turns out!!!! They are the real deal and should be required for every home studio... Wait for it... Wait for it... Not as sexy as a new preamp or some outboard gear, buuuuuuut you need to add an uninterruptible power supply! lol...You could add a Furhman power conditioner, but I prefer the UPS. I use the conditioner in my mini live gear rack, but that is because that is going to be gear that travels. But for my primary studio/work computer, I use a Cyberpower PFCLCD 1500. Just make sure that you plug your most important gear into the battery back-up outlets. I also have a Cyberpower 1000VA surge protector with battery backup for my fancy tv. lol... I am planning to pick-up one more and I recommend these things to family and friends all the time. Your computer and electrical gear is too important not to have a UPS.
Other than that... Your studio is bigger than mine so I do not see anything else to add... I was researching if I truly needed to upgrade my gear. I use an Avid Eleven Rack for everything. Turns out... It is common for folk to have additional mics, preamps, and converters. Whoops! I guess it is time for me to upgrade. lol...
Thanks for sharing....
mnash3 absolutely right! I am IT director and also manage our AV engineers for a college and I wouldn’t plug in any gear, worth a darn, without and UPS plugged in behind it. It also can help filter out any ground loop hum that can be picked up by your gear. If you can afford a little extra, get one with in uninterrupted battery. Will prevent brownout or voltage spikes during power interruption. Will add an extra later of protection to improve the longevity of all your gear. I personally use APC and Vertiv brands and recommend highly. Should be the first piece in the studio before you buy any gear you care about. Worth the investment in the long run for sure.
Great video man! I use a ton of UA plugins on my Apollo Twin Duo. With your Warm Mic Pre (i use the SM7B too), do you use any Unison plugins alongside that? compressor? specifically when recording vocals. I use a cloudlifter alongside the SSL Channel strip plugin and it does ok. But im looking into a analog pre that works well with the SM7B, something that will give the gain it needs without adding too much noise.
Thanks! When I use the wa73 I don’t put a unison pre on top of it. I like E channel, and 1176. Cloud lift with the sm7 as well.
How do you mic the cat and dog? Ha ha! Nice setup!
very tidy , everything has its space to go in. lots of stuff in the room and non cluttered , impressed , takes a lot of work to do this though - you should see the mess in mine - got 15 synths , mosstly all leant against walls.
Thanks! Someday I'll get there!
Nice studio you got!
Thanks!
Awesome setup man! How do you run the mic cables from the interface to the drum mics? Just noticed the space is real clean and I could just imagine cables running everywhere once everything is hooked up lol. Cheers from the Philippines!
Thanks! I use an xlr snake from the back of the desk to the drum kit!
recently upgraded from KRK Rokit 5's to the Alpha 65's. I also have Yamaha HS5's for ABing, amazing sound in the Alphas.
I love them. They're awesome!
Very cool setup! Do you use any virtual gear (aside from the UAD stuff)? In my (synth based) music I use a mix of hardware and software synths while all the fx are VSTs as well. Btw.: love how you are gradually getting more excited throughout the video! :-)
Haha thanks! I plan on digging into the virtual gear in another video. I really am trying to make my videos no longer than 10-15 minutes, and believe me it’s super hard. I could talk about this stuff forever.
love the setup and gear! i'm curious, how much sleep do you get a night right now?
Thanks dude, it very much depends on the day. Some days I get up to 7 others I get much much less.
“A couple of mics that i UsE,” nice.
I have a problem..
ok...
Scratchy Cat lol I’m joking. I love mics. I have a lot of them, and always want more.its a problem.
Hi Andrew , sending greetings from Czech Republic , i saw you switch your monitors from focal alpha to adam audio. Its tooo much better than focal? I bought Alpha 80 few days ago and i like it. Thank You Ota
Both great speakers, I prefer the a7x's. I made a video reviewing them and comparing them to my focals.
@@AndrewMasters Thank you so much , looking forward to comparing video :-)
Great studio setup! Looks like you've got all the "needs" covered and a bit more. As a guitar player, I'd say you're missing a Les Paul, Telecaster, and a good amp :-) But I'm sure your session guys have that covered.
stereolaunch true that! Thankfully I have a guy who takes care of all of that, but boy would it be fun to have it all!
I love the mac mini too. Have you had issues with the bluetooth and wifi dropping out?
I have not! I'm hardwired in, except for the mouse and keyboard.
sorry if you've already answered this. What subwoofer are you using with the Alphas? Thanks!
Using the KRK 10s 10” SUB. I think it’s probably about as good as any sub at the price point. Not perfect but great for most projects. I noticed it tends to not handle 808 heavy music super well.
I've used the Alpha 65's for a little over a year. Just curious, how have you adjusted the frequency pots on the back. I've rolled-off 2db on the Low shelf and boosted 2db on the High shelf.
I always kept them flat
You have to most behaved doggies. Hi again. I am redoing my studio and want to get it out of my bedroom. Is the dining area near a kitchen safe for the equipment or can ambient oils and stuff from the kitchen not safe for the equipment?
That's a risk assessment you would have to make!
HI, nice video.. I have bought the same setup Apollo X8p and Focusrite Scarlett, but after about 20 hours I still can not set up ADAT connection....I have seen all videos and red everything.......Any advice please? Is there something hidden in setup of console?? Thank you in advance.
"There's tea, sweetner... if you're that kind of peson."
What version/subscription of pro tools are you using? My apologies if you’ve already answered this a thousand times.
Whatever the latest download of the subscription installer is. I think its 2019 something rather.
I don’t know if I’m the only one but when you talk about the instruments I wanted to see them in detail you could add
b-roll. I’m sorry if this sound like a complain is just a suggestion.
Word! Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Andrew, so I know you've recently upgraded to the dangerfox desk, which is really cool and a different approach to monitor and workflow set up. However, Im kinda interested in the output desk you have here due to the added keyboard tray underneath. I run dual monitor screens and a pair of ns10's (currently on my desk) and a pair of focals that are on stands. do you see the output platform being able to accommodate dual screens and a set of ns10s on that monitor bridge? any thoughts on your overall experience with the output desk? thanks
My Dangerfox has a keyboard tray as well. I'm saving up for a second monitor for my setup currently. I think if you get the adjustable VESA monitor arms and position the monitors back a bit they'll work. It's hard for me to say with the output desk because the shelf is kind of high, where the rear shelf on this dangerfox desk is actually tucked down lower and goes back a bit further so I think there is more flexibility for dual monitors (depending on monitor size)
@@AndrewMasters didn’t realize the fox had optional tray!! Will go back and re look on their site. Appreciate reply and all the great videos! Keep up the good work!! Best to you..
Over 3k for the audio interface and less than 1 grand for the speakers! I don't understand why people don't spend on monitors because they are the most important to me in an audio setup.
You don't use a control surface? Have you tried any out? Any recommendations?
I don’t personally, nothing against them. It would be cool to try some out. I haven’t found any that made working faster. What are your thoughts?
Andrew Masters thanks for your quick replies. So helpful. I’m shopping through options right now. PreSonus look decent. The akai midi mix might be it for me to begin with. Small with 8 faders.
What's the model of that monitor display? And your thoughts Focal Alpha 65 Vs 80? Btw, great setup, no complaints 👍😊
Thanks! It’s the Dell S2719D. Great monitor, only complaint is the mount is fixed and it’s not made for a monitor arm. I just custom made one for mine so it can freely move but that’s one thing that could be better.
Monitors are so awesome. I’m in love with them everyday.
Invest in a mixing board there awesome
Good idea! My only problem is I would want a 24 channel 8028. Which happens to be insanely expensive, and require constant maintenance. But I am going to build a little (8-16) channel WA73 side car, and then get something like an artist mix to get some faders somewhere.
Very inspiring! There is a bunch of stuff on my wish list now. Thank you! I'm interested in the Mac Mini, though I've heard people having huge problems with Bluetooth and WIFI interference. Have you had any issues? Or are there simply a few rogue ones that are not the norm?
Thanks, I haven't had any wifi/bluetooth interference. We are hard wired with ethernet so I don't use WIFI, but the mouse and keyboard are bluetooth, and I can not only use them on the other side of my studio, but i'll take the keyboard into the kitchen of my house and use it to change the song and it works.
@@AndrewMasters Oh wow! and good to know. I keep reading that it's a near perfect machine for your purposes. What do you miss or not like about it? And would you recommend getting the 2018 intel based version or wait a bit longer for a new arm based version to come out?
I do a lot of video editing (obviously) and I can tell the machine starts getting uncomfortable when doing processing intensive video editing (color grading/graphics/rendering etc). It's not that bad, but I like when things run flawlessly. The solution would be to drop some dough on an external gpu, which I may do sooner or later.
@@AndrewMasters In that case I should be fine without an external GPU. Thank you for your help! Make a great day!
@@AndrewMasters Hey Andrew! How is the fan noise of the Mac Mini in your studio? Opening Luna instantly makes my laptop fan so loud that I can't record in the same room. Do you have experience with iMac fan noise? I'm trying to decide between a Mac mini and the new 27" iMac.
What school did you go to and do you recommend the school programs? I live in Kc and we have the art institute here with a program. I'm old so I doubt it would be for a job though.
Bro how do you not use the SJC snare?? They’re the best!
Mine is a very specific sound, it’s a 14x7 snare. I loooove my black beauty so I always wind up using it!
Nice tour!! I have a question for you... I am also a pro drummer, and love recording drums, and I own a small music store - so I have access to almost anything - but since I am now closed down - and cannot afford to buy anything - I have been playing around in my makeshift studio/store... ....I have a mish mash of some personal mics (some nice - some crap)... So - I own 1 Shure SM7B... also have 1 shure SM58, 1 shure SM94 condenser, 1 M-Audio Nova, 1 A.T. ST95 (similar to a cheeeeep SM58), and 1 AKG D 200E1 ... Just curious how you might mic up a 4 pc late 60's vintage ludwig kit with these mics... I am using the M-Audio on the front of the BD, the SM7B on the batter side of the BD, the AKG on the SD, the SM 58 on the FT, the A.T. on the rack tom... and obviously the SM 94 overhead... Please tell me how you might configure these mics for the best drum sound possible (also placement)... I just got them set up and started experimenting to get a decent full kit sound... But It's hard - because they bleed through so much... I am using an A&H ZED 24 board - into a Tascam DP 32 recorder (No Computers for this old school guy!)... I just discovered your channel, and am happily subscribed... I binge-watched all of your vids, and Look forward to each new video... Thanks so much!!
Thank you! What are you not liking about your recordings?
@@AndrewMasters : Well - I guess it's not real "tight" and clean sounding... Very open and "noisy" for lack of a better term...
I was looking at the platform desk. How long did it take for them to send it to you?
I actually picked it up from the warehouse, their distribution is about 30 mins from Nashville so I picked it up myself two days after I ordered it.
Andrew Masters that’s convenient! The website says 14-16 weeks lol
Yeah luckily I got one before they really blew up. It’s a great desk!
Bad reason for chosing mac, with every other pc (tower) you can change not only the ram, but every other component.
What was the total cost for all this stuffs on making home studio?
Andrew Masters Need your help Cant choose speakers Focal Alpha 80 is what I am going for, but watched your Videos I am confused between alpha 80, Adam A7 and Focal Shapes
Which ones work best for you?
the drawer for you mpk. your chair looks low. Then your screen is about your eyes. do you have long waist? I mean do you feel comfortable with the keyboard drawer? I have one but it's so uncomfortable. I cant find a sweet spot for the height of keyboard, qwery, mouse and screen. what do you sacrifice?
Good question. There's definitely some knee bumping that happens occasionally. I now have my computer monitor on a adjustable boom arm so I can move it any direction/angle/tilt. I've gotten rid of the big knob and things are working Muuuuch better. If i'm not using the keyboard while i'm working and it's pushed in, it's never a bother. When I pull it out to use it I'll lower the chair a bit, but it's still preferable to keep me facing forward while working.
@@AndrewMasters My desk top is a little thick. Unfortunate. I'm considering very thin midi keyboard like roli. I'm a bit worried it's been a while since they launched it. I don't trust retailers like sweetwater. They contact people so they can categorize consumers. sick. Whatever. good day mate.
door is missing
Or.. Is the room missing???
When using external mic pres on the apollo, can the apollos mic pres be bypassed?
Yes, here’s a more specific answer: help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002832406-Apollo-Input-Connections-Explained?mobile_site=true
How much for that sjc snare?? I had to pause and go back to make sure I heard what I thought I heard
I bought it with my kit probably 13 years ago, I think the snare was somewhere around $400.
Was wondering what mic stands you use? Are you a K&M guy?
If it holds an R88 or a 440. I'm down. I have a mixed bag here at my spot. The DR pro seems to be the strongest consumer level stand I can find.
What are the dimensions of the room?
20 ft x 13 ft
Hey Andrew, you have a great setup at home! I’d love to connect with you and offer to edit/mix a song for you and see if you like it. I’d love the opportunity to work with you in the very near future. Hopefully we can!
Thanks Jorge!
Sorry ns10 speakers are not flat what so ever, they have a huge bump in high mids
Ok cool. now LET"S ROCK OUT Play us some shizzz! =)
Let’s goooooo
I feel like warm audio sounds super cheap. The internals don’t sound that great. I think the sa-87 by Stam audio sounds way better.
Depends on the unit, the wa273 mic pre is out of this world. The 87 is great for a $450 mic.
Andrew Masters yes their mic pres sound great. I was referring to the mic more so I don’t like the way it sounds but for 450$ I feel like there is a lot better options. I feel like I’d rather own a sm7b (which I currently own) or a c214 even a at4040 and use the extra for a 57 or a 58 but that’s just me. Great video btw and the studio looks super dope.
Thanks! I will say I use my damn sm7 on literally everything.
Andrew Masters same here literally everything. Whenever I get asked what mic to do guitars vocals drums etc someone who wants everything I say sm7b
Did he say home studio?
Yes indeed, those are the words
wait what about the computer

I break down my computer in that video.
@@AndrewMasters thank you bro
What’s your Mac mini specs?
valdon116
6 core processor i7 (w/turbo up to 4.1 GHz)
32gb DDR4,
intel UHD 360,
1 TB SSD,
10 GB Ethernet
Thanks bro, I have protools on pc, need dedicated computer for music production , was thinking about switching over to Mac.
The 2018 mini was perfect for me as an engineer in the studio. It’s got enough power (if you know how to properly manage your data) to work uninterrupted with super fast transfer speeds. I keep all of my virtual instruments on separate drives and store all data on external drives so the computer operates as fast as possible.
Exactly how I planned on using it, unfortunately I just priced it out, $2400. My son said he could build me the PC equivalent for around $800. I really wanna make the jump though.
Do whatever works man!
Oh, you are an Apple FanBoy :)
Oh yeah
@@AndrewMasters at least you know it Hihi:)
great video but "flat as an NS-10s"?!?!? thats a little misleading
"I wanted something not as flat as NS10's"
Thanks!
why would you take off the pop filter...
DI The ol throw the pop filter on the other side of the room technique? It’s a Beatles thing.
@@AndrewMasters on the smb
you might want to work on your level control.
Agreed! What do you recommend?
@@AndrewMasters from you talking to the outtro is an unnerving jump in volume. that is all i was talking about. sweet setup by the way. very influential.
@@ezcondition Oh haha yea, that's sort of intentional! I'm working on finding that nice transition that's only a little bit of a slap in the face haha. I think it's much better in my latest video. Thanks for the feedback!
3:40 =)
I meant dogs! I thought one was a cat at first!
I'd recommend you fixing your audio levels in your videos. Specifically your intro and outro. Way too loud compared to the rest of the video lol
PC, expandable everything. For life. Just kidding, you are usually limited to motherboard capabilities.
