Which is the name of the purple fabric?
Damn...how did I miss this one???? LOL.
P on my e
"When the sun goes down it gets pretty dark". Thanks for clearing that up.
What can I say, I’m a genius.
Well he meant even more so with the windows covered and there not being a great light source in there
I think we get that very same natural phenomenon occurring in Australia. I suspect that it's a phenomenon that is independent of which hemisphere you live in. Just a guess though. Probably need some serious R&D by NASA to confirm this.
😂
Also, just noticed the Louder with Crowder mug. Good stuff.
If you know...you know 😉
Does everyone receive a trucker hat as soon as they get to Nashville?
Just so you know: mixing different Flow Resistivity insulation and leaving a small (150mm) air gap from the wall, creates a better absorption on low frequencies. For example:
Fabric | 25mm Dacron | 200mm Fiberglass | 25mm Rock Wool | Air gap 150mm
Fabric | 2.5k mk/rayls | 5.6k mk/rayls 12kg | 17k mk/rayls 48kg | Air gap 150mm
I got that information from multiple studio designers. As well, from John Sayers and John H. Brandt.
are these layers in reverse order, i.e. Air gap and then RW, then Fibreglass, and the Fabric.
Thank you!
Man, the sound acoustic changes so drastically when you enter the room from the kitchen at 6:06. I know there are a lot of stuff in the room but man i believe it is the Rockwool magic going on right there.
You would have achieved greater isolation with de-coupling the room and using a double leaf system with a 3" air gap between the leaves. All you would have had to do was pull that paneling off and create a double leaf. Lot's of great resources for that on the internet, check our John Sayers forum or the Gearslutz Studio forums. With that being said, If it works for you, that's all that matters!
Richtig
I'm building a studio in my home as well. I actually had a lot of the same ideas as you had, but some stuff I haven't considered. I like how you made the bass traps as doors for storage, and I also had not considered the cloud on the ceiling.
Good luck man!
The rock wall insulation is hands down the best thing for sound absorption. Especially when you won’t be paying crazy amounts for just the flimsy foam panels
I love the fact that you took your time building the structure and properly treating your room. Great quality as well Andrew. Notification bell engaged, lol.
Thanks so much!
@@AndrewMasters You are welcome
instead of putting soundpanels over the glass, maybe put sound absorbing blankets as curtains that way you reduce the reflection of the glass get rid of the sunlight but if you do want the light you still have it
That’s exactly what I did! Works great. Still need to paint the doors though.
7 DAYS!!!???? bro... it took me MONTHS to build my studio. I had no help, but still... 7 days?? I salute you bruh smh. wow
Yeah it was a crazy month. Was on a hard deadline. Thanks.
Dude that Output desk is sooooo nice. Love that midi keyboard tray.
The platform desk is so awesome. I love the cable management, rack spaces, and speaker level monitor shelf. So basically everything. haha
Looking to finish my home studio..this gave me the inspiration
Glad to hear it!
Same
OMG, that bass trap/closet!!! Taken 💪🏽👌
First video of yours I am watching and damn, 16 minutes was not enough. I can feel the pride and satisfaction as your studio began to take shape. If your musical skills are as good as your carpentry skills, then they must be mind boggling. I will check them out later. Well done and congrats on The Creative Space (that's what I would call mine, if I was capable of building a studio). Cheers from Singapore.
Sebastian Goh thanks for that!
This is an awesome studio man! One day I hope to build one like this. My only concern for your electrical is at 2:05. It looks like you piggybacked off an existing outlet and left an inaccessible junction box in your wall. Junction boxes are supposed to be accessible in case of a short circuit and your wire-nuts come apart. Love your channel and just want you to be safe! I'm a Master Electrician with over 10 years experience.
Was wondering that myself - what would the better solution be? Neoprene heat sleeve with no box? I understand what he did to get the insulation in there, but wondered what a code move might have been, pulling the old cable back up and over to the new studs then run down? Somewhere in there would be a junction or a splice...
@@ricknelsonduke If possible pull a new run or work the cable back where you can legally put a junction box for future use. I think they also make bury in the wall splice kits, but I would avoid using that method.
That was a pleasure to watch, amazing outcome love the studio.
oneampscouse thank you!
Great video!
Thanks man.
God bless you and your family
Same to you! Thanks
the moment you said there will be a lot of drums on this channel...... I SUBBED!
Haha love it! Even love the Louder with Crowder mug even more!
Man!! This is super cool!! My dream!!! man!!! I love how everything looks so organized!! :D
Oooh ooh Wow 9:58 10:06 - wherever that song ends perfect instrumental
Name has to to be Fairlight Studio. Congrats on the build. Well done, looks awesome.
@AndrewMasters I just re-watched this and I noticed that your skin looked so much better 4 years ago! Maybe have your vitamin B6 / B12 levels checked ... I had loads of skin issues (and also a high homecystein level, indicating kidney troubles) in November, I've been taking a vitamin B complex for 5 weeks now and my skin improved by a TON (even though my diet did include a lot of stuff that already covered vitamin B). Worth a try, I feel a lot better now.
If you were to give some tips for those wanting to do this in the future that you learned in this process what would you say? Like things you learned not to do or things to do that you didnt necessarily know until after finishing the project?
Just made a video explaining this very topic, check it out! ruclips.net/video/UxSzhtaHXsg/видео.html
@@AndrewMasters awesome! Thank you!
So cool seeing a setup going up from scratch and the way you documented it. Envious.
The music makes me feel like I’m an Old Navy store.
I feel that.
Double gyprock boards with acoustic sealant is the way to go to sound proof the room. The insulation wool is good but even 3 layers will not be that effective if you want a well insulated recording room.
Totally agree, my goal was not sound proofing but a very specific acoustic treatment design from Eric Valentine. I've been rocking in this room for 9 months and it's been unbelievable how well music sounds in this room and how great the mixes translate.
Outstanding result!
Thanks! It’s very nice to be done! Haha
Andrew, respect & admiration!

I remember when I first saw this a few years back and I just gotta say I love your channel
There's such a cool vibe in this video 🔥
Thanks!
Wow, awesome job - love the choice of colours. Really nice gear too!
Thanks!
Love this bro. Can’t wait to meet u and get a local Craft
Great video! I'm building out a studio in roughly the same size space (a single car garage, cement floor, cinder block walls, wood ceiling with 6" joists). I'm figuring out what I need to do on the sound treatment front. Your use case is way more pro than mine, but similar: having a great home studio to track drums, mix, and occasionally guitars/bass/vox/keys, etc. I also have a scarlett 18iwhatever and an Apollo x8p that hasn't arrived yet. Very inspiring... you've given me some fresh ideas!
That’s exciting dude! This room has been so ridiculously beneficial for recording and my business in general. Let me know how it goes.
If only music equipment was cheaper. Every time you move the camera all I see is dollar sign$
Thoughts on a home studio? Yeah, the space, room build, and acoustics, et al, it's gonna cost you... ...about one quarter of the price of the audio gear :D
Buy lightly used gear when you can. There are always people selling music equipment and it rapidly loses value after you buy it. BTW Liam Gallagher from Oasis used an Epiphone Les Paul when recording their first album because he couldn't afford a Gibson at the time. Oasis was pretty damned good as I recall. Moral of the story you don't need top of the line gear to sound great. Mid range equipment will usually work. Your playing is the most important part.
That's a nice Louder with Crowder mug you got there!
Andrew ... I envy you so much! That is an awesome space you have!
Thank you!
@@AndrewMasters Welcome, man! It is a really lovely space and I love what you've done with it.
@@DavidAndrewsPEC Thanks! It's been a great learning experience.
@@AndrewMasters
I can believe that!
It would scare me, but it looks like it would be very worth it!
:)
Nice kit, too!
What a crazy project this was! Leave some studio names below!
Hey Andrew, it's Fish! Been watching from up north here. So happy for ya man. Looks Awesome. "NashMasters Studio"
Thanks for checking out the video Fish! Great name idea, hope you’re doing well up there.
Hey Andrew, cool studio man...great job! I'm doing a studio build myself soon. Quick question: did you put up drywall before hanging the acoustical treatment or did you just put the panels right on top of the framing and insulation? thanks!
@@jorgecorante The room had existing finished walls, insulated, drywalled, with old panelling. I then built 12" bass traps framed to the room. The framing I added are essentially huge absorption panels on every wall. So The frames contain 4 sheets of rockwool insulation, and are wrapped in acoustic fabric. There is no added drywall. The primary use of the room is for mixing, with occasional overdubs so it wasn't necessary to completely isolate the room.
By converting all of the walls into panels, I eliminated the need to hang any panels (except for the cloud above my head). So far, it has worked out incredibly. Fantastic translation of mixes from my room to other listening systems.
Might I suggest “The Ice Pack” to suit your navy walls and rectangular room (coupled with some frosty beats)? 🧊❄️
Excited for you buddy!
Thanks dude!
Nice space! I'd put a bigger rug under that kit though or the kick and hihat pedals might chew up that pretty flooring.
I gotta say, the laminate that I used is impressively durable. It's been 9 months of shredding drums in here and there isn't as much as a blemish under the kit. Hilariously, the little rug that is being used, is nearly destroyed.
Awesome studio build!
Jon Borges thanks!
Love that blue Vox.
Thanks!
Best random video recommendation from RUclips in a very long time. Great channel, man! Beautiful home and studio too. Awesome job \m/
JP Weidemoyer thanks!
@@AndrewMasters welcome, mate!
This is the best making statio vedio and you are the best interior designer and you are good at those stuff , love your independence, I would love todo thes
Thanks!
Hey you might find this interesting, so I got this 2,2 by 3 by 2,2(h) meter cabin and I'm thinking about getting rid of the corners. I'm thinking about making transitions on the corners, but this would then still leave a corner with the ceiling. To really get that 3D ark takes a lot of wood and time. So I'm thinking instead of transitions still make corners but just make them way less sharp than 90 degrees. and filling up the gaps with rockwool of course. It's going to be longterm as I'm collecting rockwool for free from a lot of builders who got rest material but I got enough for 1 wall now, the wood I got now for about half the surfaces when that's done it will be like leakproof so I can drum a little louder without worrying about others too much and have better audio quality inside. But I thought the whole arking might be cool looking maybe to do it 2D and just stuff the transition with the ceiling somehow, it would eliminate the vertical corners at least
Sounds good dude! It’s fun coming up with creative solutions to these things. Cheers.
@@AndrewMasters Got a nice deal on rockwool today, not free, but still very cheap and it's probably going to be enough for the whole space
Does it make a huge difference putting up new walls? How does it help out the most? Was is done more for sound not getting out of the studio?
The new walls are basically all of the framing for the acoustic treatment.
Andrew Masters looks super nice 👍🏼
Looking good!
Thanks!
Looks fantastic. That is a musician's 'Happy Land'.
Thank you for sharing this. If you don’t mind, how much did you spend for all the materials that you put up? Or maybe like a parametric cost per square footage?
I spent about $5,000 in materials for the whole thing.
Congrats!! That looks like a dream to me. One day 🙌
Good channel keep up the awesome work!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Hello - The room sound nice....have you had to make any changes or adjustments? How to you like the Output desk?
A few mostly cosmetic changes. I’ve made some follow up videos showing and explaining them. Feel free to check them out, the desk works really well for me. I’ve heard mixed reviews from people but I had a really positive experience.
@@AndrewMasters Yeah, I've heard the same thing. There is a guy on YT that made mods to his home built Output where he cut away part of the tabletop so that he could angle the equipment rack....turned out really nice.
Loved the fabric wall idea! Much easier then adding acoustic treatment later. What type of fabric did you use?
Thanks! I believe I ordered it from www.atsacoustics.com/all-fabric.html
This is really amazing, good job man. Those drums look sick. I think the only thing that could've been better would be a blacked out table and rack for your computer and interfaces.
Awesome video! I can’t wait to do something similar to this one day.. when I buy a house space for it
Thanks, You should!
super nice! looks great
Thank you!
to hang stuff on the walls, do you just drill right on through the fabric into your studs?
You bet!
I enjoyed this video. Good job!! I definitely will use your tips . Hi from Panamá
This is amazing!
Thanks!
Very nice. Good job. Enjoy!
Thanks!
Instead of individual plugs, you should've done plug moulds on each wall on different circuits. Wouldve omitted the need for 6 plug, plug strips
Great!! U are phenomenal
Thank you!
Nice work. But in the end you may miss the daylight you had in this room in the beginning. I would have kept all these windows definitely... :)
My studio is about the same size as yours. I finally ended up modifying it to let the daylight in... I raised my drum kit a litlle bit too... Makes no sense in terms of sound but it gives a nice touch aesthetically speaking...
Totally understand! I actually did open it up a little bit! ruclips.net/video/lsuu2hJlcro/видео.html
Looks cool and great timing too! Stay safe...
Thanks! You too
Looks awesome dude!
I do have a soft spot for the small and intimate studio design...
I'd love to know how did you fasten the fabric over the internal structure? I haven't seen any FabricWall or similar company's products used here
BTW, the Eric Valentine acoustics video you suggested is a masterpiece! Then again, just about anything that man does ends up as such ;)
Cheers!
Thanks! I just stapled the fabric to the wall studs. And covered the stapled areas with 1/4 round wood pieces.
Love this! Stunning setup you’ve got there man, awesome! Currently looking options for a home built studio myself, this is a huge help!
Hi dude, I am in the same. I am building my studio. and the process has been a long and extensive learning but it's fine. I would like to ask you if you could link to the ceiling lamps you placed since I bought everything there in the USA and exported it to Venezuela. Nothing is found here. Best regards from Venezuela.
Congrats! I got the light at home depot. www.homedepot.com/p/Westinghouse-3-Light-Ceiling-Fixture-White-Interior-Multi-Directional-Flush-Mount-6632600/204705581
That`s wicked as hell!
Thanks dude!
I'm subbing just because you have a LwC mug😉
Haha thanks
Same here.
Looks great! Where could I find more info no covering the wall with fabric like that?
this is cool, I wonder if you did any air conditioning? I see the ceiling grids, is that for cold air? do you have to turn it off while recording?
The room is on central air, It’s pretty quiet so I don’t have to mess with but too much.
Word of advice for studio name: "your name here" Productions.... it will be with you forever while building a memorable Brand... Name Brand. cheers.
You should name the studio The Rhythm Shack!
According to Dennis Foley of Acoustic Fields;
* Using insulation material as sound absorber can be pretty health hazardous even covering it with fabric and must be applied between solid surfaces.
* It has a very little effect as an absorber specifically on lower freqs.
He is amongst a very few educated men and I believe what he says (Not to impugn your work sir, I think your studio looks just AWESOME..). I'm just trying to make up my mind, there are so many information flowing out there..
nice walk through the process, appreciate it as i'm looking to do a studio! how about air systems? since you took out the fan, do you have air conditioning in the room or ...?
chunkymunkyy yes the room has central AC/Heating
@@AndrewMasters ah OK thanks!
Worked out great, Rockwool is the stuff. Nice to see drums with a home.
Thanks!
Can you do a video showing the equipment you are using but with more detailed? I’m a musician that plays Bass, guitar, piano, drums and sings.. I would like to create my own studio but I don’t know what I need I would also like to play with in-ears..
Sure thing!
In this video I walk you through all of the things I'm using in my room:

This is a video where I talk about what to buy:
ruclips.net/video/unDHbzt3xMs/видео.html
Could you please shoot a video, on how loud it is in the kitchen, when you are playing drums? Would be great to see! Thanx
It's still pretty loud, but it's not crazy. The design of the room is not intended for isolating sound (sound proofing), it's for acoustic absorption. For a great listening experience when mixing. The room sounds great, but not completely isolated.
Question. Is everyone a master at DIY? I can barely hang a picture on the wall, let alone build an entire studio.
haha! I just learned from other RUclips videos. My contractors who were working on the rest of the house watched me do this studio start to finish. They would ask me where I learned how to do the electric/flooring/lighting etc. I told them RUclips videos, lol.
@@AndrewMasters Damn that's so inspiring mate! Hope I can one day achieve similar heights as that! You should be really proud of that studio it looks amazing! :)
thecaffineman cheers!
Andrew Masters obviously you used a lot of rockwool in the walls, but nothing special for the floor, ceiling or door. It looks great, but im planning on building one of these in my garden. Hows the external noise for yours? Is it silent outside? Mines a super residential area so ill need silence, very fearful of starting it and it being a failure!
Thanks for this its really helpful
@@DanielS10291 You got it! Thanks. The design of this studio is not for sound "isolation" but for sound "treatment." It's a completely different design if you intend to isolate sound from getting in or going out. The design I did was to take an existing structure, and, on a budget, make it an excellent listening environment for mixing and for overdubs. I don't use my studio for tracking full bands or anything like that so it's unnecessary for me. I also live on a large lot so my neighbors aren't very close to me.
I would like to see Paul Mills studio set up. He is in Nashville and is a very talented producer and player. Love your channel and I am on the verge of building my home studio. Your videos are such a great help to give me ideas. Thanks for your hard work to tour all of the studio examples.
Glad you are enjoying the vids. Good luck with your studio
Great video dude! I'm planing to do something similar at home, whats the size of the room? Seems realy close to what I need.
The room is 20.5’ x 13’! I added 12” of bass trapping around the room bringing each wall in by that amount. Thanks for checking it out!
