awards are just another form of entertainment. some people get the idea that somehow it's more serious for Daniel day Lewis to be your favorite actor vs Ethan hawke because of awards but that's not what awards are about, seriousness, artistic merit, those are all part of the process of creation not products of post-hoc tuxedo parties
Saw this opening night.... Ethan Hawke.... Everything he did in this film the mannerisms, the movements, the voices... The brokenness, the mystery... I swear this man did such an Amazing job it still would be underrated. Bravo Mr Hawke. You never cease to amaze me, training day, Sinister and now this. Holy shit... He better get an Oscar I swear to fucking God
Ethane hawke doesn’t watch or like horror movies in general but he ends up playing a couple of good horror movie characters sinister, the purge (2013) and the black phone
The young actors in this brilliant film were the standouts. Mason Thames reminds of of a combination of a young Tom Holland, a young Heath Ledger and a young River Phoenix. Thames has the good looks and stoic charm that will take him places in the future. Madeleine Mcgraw reminds me of a young Angelina Jolie with her combination of grace, strength and dramatic acting skills that will take her places in the future. I wish them both much happiness and success.
It’ll grab ya. Probably an instant classic. It goes by fast because it’s such a great thriller as it is a horror. An authentic gritty flick. Nothing corny. Smart story. Great ending.
I agree with Scott Derekson.. Villains are more terrifying when you don’t know their backstory.. Anton Chigurh, Hans Landa and John Doe are perfect examples of this!
Ethan Hawke played this character very well😲😱 And the children did too. I'm so glad it ended the way it did! Can we just take a moment and talk about the grabber's brother 🤦🏾♀️ and why he felt the need to explain to the boy on how he found out everything before getting the boy to safety. Just crazy! 🤯
To go from Gattaca ,Training Day, The Purge and Sinister( just to name a few) shows his gifted acting range. Not a lot of actors can transition to the dark side and make it believable
THats why I think people wear sunglasses, less about the sun and more about hiding behind, can look places and people can't see u. Fearlessness not having people stare back into you
the cast’s portrayal of their characters was wonderful, i just feel like the editing fell short… some of the scenes cut too abrupt or fast and it felt incredibly rushed. it was a good watch though
I understand having mystery behind a character, but it felt like they were leading up to some kind of reveal about the Grabber. As far as, why he was doing the things he was doing. But, they never do. He's just some psycho guy that kills children. Also, they never explain why the girl and her mom had psychic powers. They just had them. It felt like there were things they wanted to explain, but for some reason didn't
Can't wait to see this movie.. Ethan Hawke is so amazing and incredible talented actor.. I've been seeing the trailer for Black Phone. . Ethan Hawke is so terrifying and frightening playing a serial killer..
I really enjoyed the movie. I think a movie is GOOD when it makes you feel, when it inmerses you into another "world" and this movie really did it for me (and my boyfriend). Also the actors were great
That’s interesting -except for a couple extra rings in this interview, Ethan Hawke wears that same bracelet and a pinky ring and another ring in the movie.
I recently saw this movie and found it to be just average. The idea and trailer were intriguing but the movie ended up being very shallow. I kept expecting more details, more scenes, anything to enhance it but, well, we got this. Characters like Hannibal and the Joker fascinate you with their presence; you don't even know how long they've been in a scene and are content to enjoy the characters as they are; any extra details are an added bonus rather than a necessity. The Grabber, for all his quirks, feels incomplete.
Personally i like this horror thriller movie, and the fight scene is intense, but there is a part got me annoyed... I mean we can obviously see the black van, you know
I now wonder if Scott would’ve stayed for Dr Strange 2 and Kevin Feige agreed to his script I wonder how the outcome of the movie would’ve been. Probably Scarier than Sami raimis take.
The movie is fine for her. All it really has jump scares (loud noises) and dead people make up. Its still a good movie though. Just don't have her watch something like silent hill which does have disturbing imagery (a woman getting burned alive or have her skin pulled out by a disturbing looking monster demon)
Iam honest I never liked Ethan, but since The magnificent seven, Sinister and Black Phone he was blow me away. No he's in the Top League. I allways compared him to Matt Dillon also one in a Million.
Ethan Hawke is a great actor. He is not the problem. Its just that the story of the movie is so obviously non-sensical and overrated. Any movie that has paranormal, or lets just say "ghosts" in it, has to have minimum theological rules. I don't mean it necessarily has to do with existence of God. But for example the ghosts give the kids advice which is arguably bad and we don't know whether these ghosts thought he'd be killed or not. So if there is a "greater power" which enabled these kids ghosts, then why was the advice so convoluted and went little by little pretty much torturing the boy? IF there is implied some sort of existence of a universal good "God?" and clear evil "Satan" and/or the grabber, then why didn't this "greater power" help any of the previous children? I am not saying it had to, but the concepts don't stick together. Its almost like the evil in the movie is clearly "evil" and clearly some sort of after life exists, then are the ghosts really grasping at straws. Are these innocent children stuck in a limbo? Its as if either the author of the short story Joe Hill wasn't sure how to define this after life theology, or the director.
I dunno. I didn't care for it. Ethan seemed to act like Joaquin Phoenix a lot. for me. it was maybe worth a watch, but you wouldn't miss out if you never saw it. easy to forget.
Although the director is MOSTLY right about what he says about villains who are just there and you don't know much about them, I also disagree somewhat; depending on the character. Yes, it worked for Heath Ledger's Joker and made him more visceral and more of a menace because he just existed to cause chaos and nobody, not even Batman, knew why. In the case for The Grabber in his film, I think it would have added wayyyyy more depth to his character if we knew even a few more details about him. We as the audience don't need to know every single detail, but knowing why he did this and what his "job" was and how he can even work if he refuses to show his face, and why he only chose males (a lot of them being "the tough kids in the neighborhood/school"), etc. Instead of just a guy who is clearly mentally unstable and likes to play this "game" with these kids before murdering them slowly with his knife. To me, this particular character would have been far more interesting and the movie would have been better if we just had a few more details. That was a mistake on the director's part for sure. Still an amazing movie, though.
Ethan’s enthusiasm is so infectious. National treasure.
The Academy always ignores horror movies, but Ethan Hawke really deserves an Oscan nod for his chilling portrayal.
They also hate Hawke and Linklater for some reason. I think it is because they call out award shows for what they are....bullshit.
awards are just another form of entertainment.

Agree 100%
The Exorcist, Jaws, The Silence of the Lambs, The Sixth Sense, Black Swan, and Get Out are all horror films that got Oscar nominations/wins!
But why? He barely did anything in this movie and he was barely in it and you can't even see his face. Maybe the mask should get the award.
Just watched this last night and it was AMAZING! Ethan is such a fabulous actor!
10/10. Gave me Joker vibes. Can tell joker inspired this movie
Watched it yesterday. It's.the most intense horror movie I've seen.in ages.
I loved it
He really is! He's a total sweetheart too!
This might be a dumb question but was it scary or suspenseful?
Ethan Hawke playing a villain....he outdid himself! Oscar-worthy movie!
Agree.
Just saw it and while Ethan Hawke was great I think the two main kids were just as great. Very talented cast
Interviews like this truly give so much more info into what you're potentially about to see on film, and I for one, really appreciate that
Couldn't come here fast enough after seeing this film. I needed to be reminded that Ethan Hawke is a really great guy.
Everything about Ethan Hawke's energy that normally makes him so benevolent and disarming made The Grabber that much more terrifying.
The child actors were amazingly talented.
Yes!! And they had IT, which is something hard to find
Absolutely yes
Yea both were amazing but the girl especially
@@unabashedlybroken6789nah finney’s actor was better. both fantastic though
He should play these roles more often! He did great.
Ethan is an academy award nominee and he's still so underrated. I love him. Ever since I saw White Fang.
He such a good actor that made me hate him badly. I couldn't stop watching it. He deserves an award for sure.
He’s wearing some of the jewelry he has on in the actual movie….I’m shook
You go see a movie with no expectations and it's just blow your mind. The cast is impeccable, perfect and insanely good.
3:38 the exact reason why I think sinister is the scariest film to ever exist
Saw this opening night.... Ethan Hawke.... Everything he did in this film the mannerisms, the movements, the voices... The brokenness, the mystery... I swear this man did such an Amazing job it still would be underrated. Bravo Mr Hawke. You never cease to amaze me, training day, Sinister and now this. Holy shit... Just watched this a few nights ago, and I absolutely love it!

Looks really good...can't wait to watch it...Ethan Hawke is such a good actor
He is AMAZING in this. Creepy AF, he 100% nailed it.
One of the best movies of the year. Easy.
These two kids , my god great Actors 👏👏👏👏
I met Ethan a few years back. He's very sweet!

Those kids are such insanely good actors. I foresee big things for them.

The Grabber was so creepy.. And I loved it! Ethan did excelent job with his character. Also other young actors did amazing job! ❤ Love this movie.
Loved this movie. I will buy it when it comes to DVD/ Blu Ray.
I saw this yesterday. I loved it.

Just saw this he was was so terrifying, great job Ethan. "I know you are not really sleeping"

Absolutely.
Scott Derrickson is so talented ! He's got the best post - Marvel career.
He did such a freakin amazing job!!!
So strange to think that this is the man who played Todd Anderson!

Good movie. Really well done I never thought I'd be scared of Ethan Hawke
the cast’s portrayal of their characters was wonderful, i just feel like the editing fell short… some of the scenes cut too abrupt or fast and it felt incredibly rushed. it was a good watch though
Just watched it. Kudos - it’s a brilliant film!
A new fav of mine !!

I would love to see more of the kids powers fleshed out in a sequel
I wonder if Scott returned to direct in the MCU, could we see him direct Arthur Harrow? That would be amazing!
This movie was great. I really loved it. 😍
I'm going to see this movie in theaters!😉✌❤😊
Hawke got big
Best movie of the year !!!!

Great actor from the beginning!
as a girl, the movie hit me. Loved it
U r gorgeous
That’s interesting -except for a couple extra rings in this interview, Ethan Hawke wears that same bracelet and a pinky ring and another ring in the movie.
Robin Buckley and The Grabber
I recently saw this movie and found it to be just average. The idea and trailer were intriguing but the movie ended up being very shallow. I kept expecting more details, more scenes, anything to enhance it but, well, we got this.

Not once but twice in the Dark Knight the Joker tells you how he got his scars.
this was a great movie!!!
I now wonder if Scott would’ve stayed for Dr Strange 2 and Kevin Feige agreed to his script I wonder how the outcome of the movie would’ve been. Probably Scarier than Sami raimis take.
why ethan hawke looks like doctor strange.
He's more Doctor Strange than Benedict Cumberbatch
This movie is 🔥
Ethan saved the movie
Ethan Hawke is terrific in this movie. He was coach (to be f... evil) from his wife...Lol lol lol
LMAO I THOUGHT HE WAS THE FATHER BUT HES THE GRABBER LOLLLL THEY LOOK ALIKE
The Black Phone Review 📞 ⬛️ 👹: ruclips.net/video/JPvecPqStPM/видео.html
Again can my 9 year old girl who loves horror watch this. Please advice???
Depends because it's a bit dark but if she is used to that then she will be ok.
If she has seen the movie IT. then she will be ok
The movie is fine for her. All it really has jump scares (loud noises) and dead people make up. Its still a good movie though. Just don't have her watch something like silent hill which does have disturbing imagery (a woman getting burned alive or have her skin pulled out by a disturbing looking monster demon)
Actually 2:20 the Joker does explain how he got the scars….. just sayin…
He tells multiple different stories which indicates he lies hence we don’t actually know
Ethan is haunting in this, I loved it but the dark knight isn’t the joker it’s Batman….had to be said.
Its Second film where he plays psychopath
What if the grabber enter the Battinson universe 🤔🤔🤔😁✌️
He would not stand a chance against battinson. There's nothing intelligent about him like Riddler.
Hannibal Lecter had a backstory
I think he meant a reason why he does what he does. Backstory doesn’t always capture motive
and it destryed alot
Great movie but they actually do have movies that explain why the joker and Hannibal lecter became who they were just saying
Iam honest I never liked Ethan, but since The magnificent seven, Sinister and Black Phone he was blow me away. No he's in the Top League. I allways compared him to Matt Dillon also one in a Million.

Please i'm Philly Lisa.T is for my husband. Is it to scary for a nine year old?She likes scary movies??
Too bsd bad
It was very disappointing not that scary at all.
I'd hate to see your definition of scary lol
it was a drama.
