The 1978 setting made him incredibly realistic to be honest. Men from that time had a lot of qualities that are considered toxic nowadays. He does love his two kids though. Although people point out he works in a radioactive place so he would die soon anyway.
for someone who doesn't like playing villains, he is sure as hell good at it. harrow in moon knight and now the grabber in black phone were both incredible performances from him
The kid playing Finn is really good, the scene where he was digging through the freezer and being hopeless, he nailed it. Even the girl, she’s scene stealer for sure. Ethan has been doing villainous roles and he’s good at it. The film is great but made even more better because of these actors.
I think the scariest part about this movie is how realistic it is. We all know that serial killers like this exist. They did a very good job at creating a different yet realistic film with incredible actors. Loved it!
I like the fact that you have to dig deep down into the movie and think. It didn't really show what he did to those boys you have to imagine it and that's the scariest part. They did a good job
Exactly but you can almost get an idea and I think one of the ghost kids talked about how he would beat them over and over but yeah a lot left to the imagination which makes it so haunting
Just watched it. Wonderfully done! I was skeptical of the kids performance from the trailer, but wow, was I blown away!! I only wish we could see more of Ethan Hawk in the film. Not that he's not in it much, but his presence was very familiar (to me at least) to Heath Ledger's Joker, where, he's so evil, and so odd, & interesting, you Want to see more of him, you want to know more about his backstory. Had great jumpscares, as well. They weren't anything you see coming. And as I write this, what do you know, that's exactly who and what he's compared to. Hellz yeah!
Ethan Hawke is so sweet. He might have not liked playing a villain and he may have played it all too convincing, but the young actor Mason Thames, who played Finney, said that Ethan was always so nice to him and that Ethan always asked Mason if he was ok after they filmed the intense scenes together and Ethan playfully patted Mason's head afterwards. Ethan always made the scary scenes comfortable and fun for the Mason so the boy never got frightened or creeped out during the scenes. I find that so precious.
Bro really said "because it was a true coming of age story" like that was more than a coming of age story. My homie Finny had to deal with getting kidnapped, get locked in a cellar and mentally tortured, watch a poor man get axed in the head, and then had to murder the man who was holding him captive. The aftermath of that definitely scarred Finny and he definitely had through lots of therapy after that 😬
I sing the highest praises of the movie. When people ask me what it’s about, I tell them it’s horror, thriller, coming of age. So excellently crafted, talented cast, riveting script, I loved it all.
I thought it was stupid, no way a kid that prays like that would disrespect God, fearinv his wrath. It seemed like an adult struggle & concept, and seemed forced & unnatural.
Ok so is anyone else noticing that the bracelet on his left wrist and the rings on his right end fingers are the same ones he wears in the movie? Lol his character sent chills down my spine so much that I can easily take notice to those things because it played a part in his role.
I believe he got too attached to this role. He even says he changed as soon as the mask went on and the character became hypnotic smh. I was pretty disturbed watching this movie and mentally it bothered me.
I just saw this last night and I have to say this is one of the Best movies ever made! I absolutely loved the story and the actors were absolutely amazing. So very well done
I just watch this movie at theater and I love it! What shocking is that I couldn’t believe that was Ethan Hawke because most movie I watch of him that he play as a good guy but I am truly amazing that he actually can play a real bad guy. All actors are awesome especially sister and brother they are truly amazing and brave. Jeremy Davies was awesome to! Great job of making the awesome movie! All kids did great especially the ones that died they scare me. I love the movie you guys did awesome! Showing lots love! I’m a big fan!❤️😊
i think the movie was scary in the sense that it wasn’t so far fetched. all the other horror movies have certain elements which make them unrealistic. but in this case, with child kidnappings, pedophilia, and rape, they are completely possible things that do happen quite often.
To be honest I would have liked it if they took a little time away from the sisters ability and focused more on the grabber and his newest victim. The ghosts were such an awesome addition and I just wish it would have given more time to the ghosts. I really loved this movie btw so I am not really putting the film down. It has been a long time since I even wanted to watch a new movie but this one had me hooked last year when I first saw the trailer.
This horror movie surprised me! Good horror movies are rare these days. What I find impressive is that they didn't have to show excessive Gore and killing to make this movie frightening.
Just seen it Friday night and was not disappointed at all I seen the previews for it a while ago I think it got pushed back because of Covid and I knew it was gonna be a good movie a great original story not to many cheesy jump scares just great
I liked the moody 70's Denver vibe in this film and overall it was a decent film, but there were a few parts that either lacked logic, felt too convenient, or were just unrealistic. The lead actor Mason Thames has a very successful future ahead of him though.
There was a killer in the 1970s and they don’t talk about him in documentaries but he killed 5 kids and was never caught. You can tell joe was a kid when it happened and I bet that’s his inspiration for the film
@@harlemw651 no I don’t and I have been trying to find it. There was a kid that went missing and he was missing for a week I think and when they found him they did a autopsy and the last thing he ate was kfc and his dad said that was what they had for dinner a week earlier. I can’t find it for the life of me though but even the neighborhood I’m the movie looked like the real life news real that it showed
The abuse of father on Gwen, omg made me so sad. I shouted myself *that’s enough a**hole* . But it was definitely a nice change in the movie taking place in 70s. I enjoyed it
The writing for this film is great in my opinion. They brought in everyone nicely with the back stories and all. I feel like listening the characters of the dead children, we can kind of figure out the grabber’s reason for what he does and I even connected Fin’s experience with his dad, with the grabber when it came to the belt and naughty boy. Fin new what to do even before the ghosts told him. Great characters
Ethan, you are really great at being a horror movie billiards. You scared the hell out of me. I really enjoyed this movie and watch it over and over. Thank you. Oh, you have a really beautiful body.
I love this movie great 👍 and plus I’ve been a fan of Ethan Hawke since day 1 he’s such a outstanding actress and he’s just great even the kids in this movie did awesome as well
The Grabber wasn't the only scary character. The kids' father was a close second.
he was a pretty realistic character tbh
The 1978 setting made him incredibly realistic to be honest.

Flynn's father was unpredictable
@@jayzmadz4536 Flynn's father was the killer

You know a movie is good when you watch a cast interview right after 😂
Frrr
U are right
you are damn right, these interviews somehow helps you get back to reality because they are so well made and provide so immersive experience.🙂
Literally 💀
i really have to agree with this.
for someone who doesn't like playing villains, he is sure as hell good at it. harrow in moon knight and now the grabber in black phone were both incredible performances from him
Unfortunately he was wasted in both the role and the series (Moon Knight)

Both of them are incredible. I can't recall the last time I've seen good child actors like them. Maybe Dakota Fanning back in the day, but that's it.
Yeah mason and Ethen and madiline and the rest of the cast did A amazing Job
I 200℅agree what a great actors especially the kids
Ethan Hawke is such an underrated actor. Love the guy
He's awesome
This year is his lucky year
He's not underrated. Everyone knows how good he is
@@PopsiCOLE 💯 AGREED he's ETHAN FREAKIN HAWK!!!!!!!!!! Plus He killed in this movie 🎥 and knocked it right out of the park
I'm not too into actors or Hollywood, but he's always been one of my favs, right along with John Malkovich.
The intro with kids missing person’s photos is when I knew it was going to be one hell of a movie. Sent chills down my spine.

I think the scariest part about this movie is how realistic it is. We all know that serial killers like this exist. They did a very good job at creating a different yet realistic film with incredible actors. Loved it!
Exactly this shit happens in real life and it’s scary Af
Aww those kids are so wholesome and pure their performance was spectacular I loved the movie

the jab to Max's head part was INSANE. i didn't expect him to kill him
I knew that shit was coming💯
Ethan has a kind personality, and even his sick character has a kindness at times. It comes naturally for him. One of the finest actors in tinsel town
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I'VE SEEN IN A WHILE
I totally agree. It was soooo good
