Hey Scott! A lot of people have asked you whether you could do a Nuzlocke run. But examples like this very run without a reset are basically already a successful Nuzlocke of its own. Not a hardcore one since you overlevel, but it is basically a Itemless Solo Nuzlocke, which is still considered a hard category by top Nuzlockers' standards. Snuble has a great attack that's what helped him a lot. I have to say, many Pokemon you got the knockout in just one hit... I wasn't expecting to be one hit, that did impressed me! Snuble was a very good competitor in the end. To be honest I didn't like Snubull that much, but it proved itself to be good I admit hehehe! Can't wait for your next challenge Scott! See you! Lots of success!
I was fascinated with snubbul when GSC were first coming out. I had seen it somehow, and was so excited at the thought of new Pokémon. Then i saw the rest of them and completely forgot about snubble. Snubbull was doing pretty good, surprisingly enough. I'm not a fan of it's design, so I didn't really have the chance to use it in a crystal playthrough.😅 But it improved a lot , especially in terms of resets and real time. That shows again how efficient grinding can improve a certain pokemon's results in a solo playthrough. I think that you could test sludge bomb with Snubbull , because it can have a high chance of poisoning the opposing pokemon, and it uses Snubbull's attack stat, alongside curse , I'm not sure how it could change it's results, but I think it's a fun concept to try out.😊 Also I think that game freak gave sludge bomb to Snubbull in order to resemble Teddiursa's access to fury cutter ,in a way. Anyways, I can't wait for the new vs videos of the Kanto starters against the Johto starters.😊
You hunted down an old comment of mine just to let me know the "Gen 1 Starter in Gen 2" video that I wanted was coming. I'll never forget that. Super hype for the Starter verses battle Scott!
Hey, Scott. Great video as always! I noticed when you get hit with a Sand Attack, your code updates the accuracy of moves from 100% to 66%. But this is only the case for Gen 1, I think. In Gen 2, -1 on accuracy means 75%. Check that out,.in case you need to update the script for post gen 1 games.
The shinies stats thing in gen 2 will forever be frustrating to me. My first instinct nowadays is it was a limitation computation wise. But even coming at it with logic still doesn't ease the pain of knowing that Gyarados will always be inferior... It was better when I didn't know and I was a smol precocious child, seeing that red sea leviathan for the first time ;-;
Before watching: Really high attack for a first stage pokemon and solid defense and HP. Also, a Normal Type that can learn strong physical normal moves. And the elemental punches which can give some coverage if needed. And it learns Bite and Lick early on, so not even the Ghosts will be a problem. My prediction is that Snubbull is actually really good! You will run into a problem with Blue and Red, because you‘ll be too underleveled, since you‘ll get there „too quickly“ but aside from that I really don‘t see many real obstacles. And even the underleveled thing might not be the biggest problem since it levels fast. My guess is upper mid-tier which is going to be really good for a first stage pokemon. After watching: Completely missed how similar Snubbull is to Teddiursa. But yeah, unsurprisingly, this is a really strong first stage pokemon. And it just has so many tools to work with. Zero resets is still surprising! Badass little dog! So, I‘m actually still surprised that it didn‘t get a higher rank.
They should have given Whitney a Teddiursa and a Snubbull instead of Clefairy. But then, 50% of the Johto gym leaders don’t even own a Johto pokemon so at least she got a Miltank…
Hey scott, I think your accuracy table is wrong. According to Bulbapedia, in gen2 and beyond, minus 1 in accuracy makes 100% accurate moves 75% accurate, and no longer 66% like it does in gen1. ( 26:46 to see a bad calculation on screen)
I read another comment and have corrected this. I made a pinned comment. Wish I had been able to catch this earlier before filming a lot of the next month’s content. I guess we can fix it in post……
Snubbull!! I didn’t like Snubbull very much as a kid but since adopting a puppy pitbull a few years ago, I’ve completely fallen in love with Snubbull and Granbull :D
Snubbull was about 9 minutes slower than Ho-oh at Claire-- and ended up an hour behind on the first play through. Wow, that late game/post game is really the difference maker in gen 2!
The starters video will be awesome! I think Venusaur’s Red fight might be a nightmare with Psychic and Flamethrower working against it but I hope it still finds a way to win
30:21 _You wanna take out a Dragonite?! Well you best be packin' another [flipping] Dragonite!! Lance uses three Dragonites because they [fudging] work, and because [buddies]! love! Dragonites!_
I usually try and use Special Attacks against Koffing and Weezing. They have a lower Special Defence. That might help against Petril during the rocket plot line.
I wonder when Scott will get another shiny in one of his challenges... Edit: Holy cow! Gratz on finding that red shiny fish Pokémon you spotted! Shame you didn't catch it.
Known errors: 1) Accuracy/Evasion calculations. When Snubbull's accuracy is lowered or the enemy's evasion is boosted I am using the generation 1 values to recalculate accuracy. Thanks to @JoaoFerreira-pj1uc for catching this. 2) 5:11 - I said Teddiursa, meant to say Snubbull
My predictions for the starter Vs videos: Venusaur will crush Meganium. Meganium is bulkier, but Venusaur is still plenty bulky and is much more offensively potent. Meganium will still do okay overall, but I think Venusaur is going to be exceptional. Charizard and Typhlosion have literally identical stats. So it comes down to how helpful the Flying typing is for Zard, and how much having Thunder Punch matters for Typhlosion. I think Thunder Punch is a big enough advantage, especially given how early you get it, that Typhlosion has the edge, but I think they'll both be solid. I don't remember how Feraligatr's stats are distributed, but its Special Attack being lower than Blastoise's is a notable disadvantage. I think Blastoise will probably win, but Gatr has a chance. I think they'll both be quite good. ETA: I recently watched a challenge run of HGSS that reminded me just how hostile Johto is to Grass types. They match up very poorly against all of Falkner, Bugsy, Morty, Jasmine, Pryce, Clair, Will, Koga, Karen, and Lance. Blue and Red are slightly less painful for Grass types, but not by that much. So Venusaur probably actually won't be nearly as good as I initially thought. And Meganium is probably going to struggle big time.
Snubbull and by extension Granbull are memorable Pokemon but IMO weren't very memorable in-game until they became Fairy-types later on. Though they do have the Intimidate ability which can be really good.
Zero resets! amazing! Looking forward to those vs videos. I usually watch them a lot alter than they come out cause they're longer and I need to time them well but they a re super fun.
Female Pokemon are optimal in gen 2 for pure special attackers since if you are not using your Attack stat, its good to have a low Attack as you take less damage from confusion.
Also no attract from Whitney. The issue is that a pure special attacker in gen2 is unfortunately not going to go well against Red's Snorlax... You really want all the damage you can get there.
I just had a moment where I realized I have missed some videos for a minute and was almost hoping Scott said wife instead of fiance lol. Still love the vids dude
Hey Scott. Just wanted to give you a bit of a programming lesson. Now, I know most of your experience is with Javascript so this isn't especially relevant for you. But in many programming languages, data is explicitly assigned to a particular type. In the case of Pokémon, all of the main games use integers in all of their damage calculations, and there's a concept called integer arithmetic. Which is to say, if you do a division function on integers, it *acts* as a floor function, but is not actually a floor function. It's just a consequence of performing a rational mathematical operation on something that only accepts discrete integers as inputs and outputs. Of course, in Javascript, basically all numbers are floating point numbers, meaning they have decimals, so to force it to act like the pokémon damage calculation, you have to use a floor function. I love your content. Keep it up my man. Can't wait for the skitty playthrough!
You mention in the video that you think it is weird for Lance to have 3 Dragonites. I actually really like this because in Gen 1, he has 2 Dragonair and a Dragonite, so it would make sense that those two would evolve into Dragonite between the events of RBY and GSC.
It doesn't help that gen 2 didn't actually introduce any new dragon types except Kingdra who Clair was already using. Faulkner and Morty have no excuse for not using Hoothoot, Noctowl and Misdreavus though.
While I agree that the Rocket quests are tedious, I think a couple of things are done right. Their scheme here is well thought out for a kid's game. (What even was Giovanni's plan at Silph?) They have quirky side characters like the hyuck-hyuck guy and the foreigner in Kanto. And when they block every path in Goldenrod, it's actually kind of ominous. What they needed was a named leader lol.
Teddiursa set a high bar for new gen2 normal types w 2 evolutions, so I’m guessing this will also be a….. (teddiursa spoiler) Fast and smooth run…. Until the e4!
I can't wait for the much faster runs of their evolved form. It's like you're doing little cup speed runs right now. Also, PLEASE make a checklist. It takes five minutes and no more forgetting kimono girls. Ps. Snubbull is probably a french bulldog or boston terrier, not a pitbull.
Holy crap, I always thought as a kid that male Pokémon were more offensive and female were more defensive. I was kinda close with that attack IV deciding their nature!!
Blastoise vs Feraligatr? That's an interesting one I didn't expect. The starter 3 way is an is win for Gatr over Typhlosion and Meganium, but putting it against the previous water starter in a game that heavily favors water types could make things close.
Dark type moves doing special damage makes so much sense to me now, as my Espeon (my original ace) used to smash opponents with bite. But years later when I finally understood about attack and special attack, bite was a physical move, so I was confused for years about this 😂
The seemed to be angry and mad dog that’s actually timid and very shy, always a pain when it’s blatantly weaker then another, the tag team duo in chuck’s gym feel like you should have their artwork a opposite (or do the final pose in the DB fusion dance)
I'm not too shocked that Snubbull ended up doing pretty well, it's decently strong for a 1st stage pokemon and there isn't very much difference between 30 and 40 base speed as you're slow either way. In terms of the starter comparisions, I think they'll go this way. Meganium vs Venusaur, Meganium gets Razor Leaf way earlier and learns body slam and earthquake. Venusaur does get growth at level 41 though and does learn leech seed early on and even the smallest bit of chip damage per turn is huge. Meganium does have the better moveset though Charizard vs Typhlosion, Typhlosion doesn't even learn flamethrower until level 60. Meanwhile Charizard gets it at level 34 or something. They do have the same stat spreads and similar TM learnsets so I guess it comes down to Typhlosion learning rollout & thunderpunch via tm whereas Charizard learns dragonbreath by tm and wing attack by level up. Feraligatr vs Blastoise, I'm sorry but Feraligatr's learnset is so bad. At best it has a stronger earthquake and it learns slash at level 38 but it learns nothing good to take advantage of its physical attack.
As someone who loves most of the canine-inspired Pokémon, I was never all that endeared to Snubbull. Maybe because it walks on its hind legs? Or maybe the ugly-cute thing just doesn't do it for me. X3 At least it becoming a Fairy type gives it a decent differentiation from... uh... a lot of other things it's similar to? >_>
So proud of snubbull! I love the second runs, they are always so satisfying. It feels like the end of the Pokémon’s character arc.
Exactly!

Fun fact about the Seel line; its evolution is also lazily named. Dewgong is a homophone of dugong, a marine mammal closely related to manatees.

I wish I had a Bayleef IRL. The Pokedex claims that the aroma it emits from its leaves is invigorating, and God knows I need more vigor.
My predictions for the starter Vs videos:
Venusaur will crush Meganium.
Well Granbull, Mawile and Mimikyu are the best designed Fairy types. Just saying
Zero resets! amazing! Looking forward to those vs videos. I usually watch them a lot alter than they come out cause they're longer and I need to time them well but they a
re super fun.
Glad you like them! I’m looking forward to them too!
Female Pokemon are optimal in gen 2 for pure special attackers since if you are not using your Attack stat, its good to have a low Attack as you take less damage from confusion.
Swagger was pretty common too if I remember. Lower attack stat was optimal on certain pokemon
Also no attract from Whitney. The issue is that a pure special attacker in gen2 is unfortunately not going to go well against Red's Snorlax... You really want all the damage you can get there.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon True, but if I am playing with like Alakazam or something, that Snorlax is going to be a pain anyway.
Loved the subtle bit starting at 33:50 , great timing as well :')
I did already know this. All of my calculations have these math.floor functions as a part of their logic!
You mention in the video that you think it is weird for Lance to have 3 Dragonites. I actually really like this because in Gen 1, he has 2 Dragonair and a Dragonite, so it would make sense that those two would evolve into Dragonite between the events of RBY and GSC.
Maybe if they were high enough level, but they are lower level than tbhw lol
Yeah a named leader would have been perfect. Especially if he had a difficult team.
Teddiursa set a high bar for new gen2 normal types w 2 evolutions, so I’m guessing this will also be a….. (teddiursa spoiler)
Fast and smooth run….
Was expecting leftovers + more detect PP for bonus healing.
i'm very hyped for these vs videos.
me too!
Granbull was always a must in my teams! Love this line. :)
Super excited for the VS videos!!!
I Always Think That Lance Is A Counterpart Of Seto Kaiba. Who Has 3 Blue Eyes White Dragon.
Lance: "Seto Kaiba lied to me. These dragons are useless."
Holy crap, I always thought as a kid that male Pokémon were more offensive and female were more defensive. I was kinda close with that attack IV deciding their nature!!
TIL Vital Throw existed in Gen II.
I'll know I've been watching these videos a while when Scott starts saying "my wife" instead.
Blastoise vs Feraligatr? That's an interesting one I didn't expect. The starter 3 way is an is win for Gatr over Typhlosion and Meganium, but putting it against the previous water starter in a game that heavily favors water types could make things close.
It’s not a three way. Meganium vs Venusaur etc
Dark type moves doing special damage makes so much sense to me now, as my Espeon (my original ace) used to smash opponents with bite.
But years later when I finally understood about attack and special attack, bite was a physical move, so I was confused for years about this 😂
😮really looking forward to those vs vids
I almost think Anthony deserves an art where he's spinning in a mini tornado like Tazmanian Devil x3 still nice to see some art though!
Meganium does have the better moveset though
Charizard vs Typhlosion, Typhlosion doesn't even learn flamethrower until level 60.
I just noticed like the tiniest of tiniest bugs in the overlay here. ThunderPunch is displayed as TM01.
I’ve been using Snubbull in my current “not popular Pokémon” run in Crystal. His physical attack has been pretty great!
Granbull has great attack, but its speed really brings it down
I’m back after a bit of break and wow! That ugly dog did pretty well!
