I feel like Everything Everywhere all at once belongs on this list, I loved it but damn that was a trip.
Being John Malkovich fits in here
I’m surprised you didn’t mention “The Lobster.” That was some WTF disturbing stuff.
Paprika deserves a nod. Even for an anime movie about dreaming made by the same guy behind Paranoia Agent, it gets pretty crazy pretty fast.
The third act cranks the WTF straight up to eleven when the dreamworld denizens invade into the real world. Which doesn't happen gradually -- it happens right the hell out of nowhere. Two of our protagonists are just walking along when suddenly they lock eyes with a giant porcelain doll staring back at them through the window. You've got about five seconds of just the characters looking at it going D8 before the doll starts cackling and destroys the building.
And that's how the what-the-fuckery starts. It just gets crazier and crazier after that.
I was tripping balls when I first watched Beau is Afraid and wasn't ready for how weird it got. People talk about the paint drinking scene, which is wonderful, but the scene where he thinks all the weirdos are invading his apartment when he goes outside is one of the greatest things I've seen in any movie ever.
Beau is afraid was too weird but its a grower.😂
Naked Lunch comes to mind--rented that on VHS back in the day and felt pretty lost.
Meet the Feebles is brilliant. If you haven't seen it before, you are in for a deranged treat !
If you can get your hands on them, you should also watch Bad Taste and Braindead (known as Dead Alive in some markets). They are two more of Jackson’s earlier films. Both twisted and brilliant!
I liked it a lot except Robert and the other "nice" characters are boring
Muppets on Crack!
My favorite weird surreal film is the 1978 (79?) Japanese film "House"❤
Sometimes, throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks can be good. In the case of most of these films, one thing that sticks to a walls is S**t.
But Meet the Feebles is gold and an absolute must see film.
Boy does Greener Grass belong on this list. I scratched my head for 2 days.
If anything convince s you that Peter Jackson is a genius it's Meet the Feebles. Absolutely hilarious.
Cemetery man that's a good one 😂
Gentleman Broncos....that's all
I saw Takashi Miike's Dead of Alive in the theaters. After the first 10 minutes, I was like, what did I get myself into? And after the last 10 minutes, everyone in the theater was stunned silent.
It's already been mentioned, but The Lobster is a bloody weird film.
Love Lies Bleeding. Didn't see that one listed here. I didn't even realize what kind of movie I was watching until it went batshit crazy suddenly toward the end. lol
Watching the second half of “sorry to bother you” felt like watching a live action episode of South Park
I saw “smoking causes coughing” at the Cannes Film Festival 3 years ago and it was a wild ride, highly recommend it
I love Meet The Feebles. It's brilliant. It's basically The Muppets on crack.
Infinity Pool. After X and Pearl, I'd go see anything starring Mia Goth but that was one of the weirdest movies I've ever gone to see in theaters.
Love your content 😊😊
Here's my list of WTF movies:
Rubber
Funny Games
Jack Ketchums' The Lost.
Itchi The Killer
Irréversible
Eraserhead
Tromeo and Juliet
Antichrist
High School Musical
Dream Scenario was a lot of fun but it seemed like the writers weren't sure how to end it. 🤷
I tried watching it, but gave up...
So glad you gave a shout out to Lanark. I read it as a teenager in Scotland. I wonder what kind of movie it would translate into.
I’d never be able make a list like this purely because I watch the trailers. Trailers are meant to sell the film and none of these seem like they’d have trailers that would make the whole film seem any better. They’d have to flat out lie and make a trailer involving none of the actual film to sell them well. I wouldn’t be dumb enough to then pay to see any of these.
I couldn't finish Poor Things.
I stopped after 20 minutes.
I am glad that I waited for streaming instead of seeing it in a theater.
If I had to go to a theater, then I would have been stuck watching the whole stupid thing.
No, I don't walk out of a movie. Walking out won't get my time or gas to get to the theater, so I never walk out.
I sat through the whole thing.
(The whole poor thing)
And....It was a steaming pile of pretentious shit. I can't believe this film got the recognition it did.
I've seen a pattern with Yurgos' movies, he makes movies not for the sake of art. But to just make people feel uneasy or uncomfortable.
I didn't even want to watch it in the first place but I was with other people. I honestly can't believe that this movie was well-received. I agree with mrhappy5236, it was done simply to make the viewer uncomfortable.
I got a bit further, an hour. Luckily I watched it on prime so I didn’t pay for it.
Fabulous film
Glad it wasn't just me. I couldn't stomach more than half an hour of this pretentious bore of a film, with its dubious paedophilic undertones. I streamed it free, so I skipped through the rest, and was glad I hadn't wasted any more time over it!
For me it was "lamb" lol i laughed so much!!
1:09 "every colour is pastel" meanwhile all the characters are wearing bright, almost neon, colours
Since this is a What Culture link I imagine there might be a wrestling fan or two. "Hell Comes to Frogtown", starring the legendary Roddy Piper, definitely deserves at least an honorable mention
"Hyperbole" is pronounced "high-PURR-bo-ly".
Thank you for not making me think of Human Centipede... Well shit
The most WTF movie i've seen recentky is The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky
I watched "The City of Lost Children" (1995) and have no clue what it was supposed to be about. Did it have a story-line that I missed, or was it just a mish-mash of odd visual images?
Dream scenario was great. Very bizarre
"The Singing Detective" is another trippy film. RDJr tries to figure out a mystery for a book he's already written. He's burned at the start, slowly recovering, becoming his alter ego, and Mel Gibson is his psychiatrist.
All Charlie Kauffman films should be on this list
How is Men not on this list? 🙈🤣
I think guns akimbo should've had an honorable mention.
I can think of three movies that had me saying "WTF" out loud after seeing. And during the movies as well. They are, in no order:
• Hamlet 2
• Edmond
• Being John Malkovich
All three are probably good movies, I don't know. But I found them disturbing to the point that I haven't been able to bring myself to see them a second time. Especially Edmond. That son of a bitch gave me nightmares.
😂😂😂why is this title so funny 🤣
I husband loved watching bottoms even the one he sees in our mirror every morning lol
You guys need to add the movie “Palindromes” to this list.
Meet the Feebles is brilliant as is Bad Taste.
9:22 I think you'll find the character prefers to be called "an adventuress." 😉
I think The Greasy Strangler might be the most WTF film I've ever watched
Where the wild things are was just the worst
How did destroy all neighbour's not end up on the list 🤣.
Every wonderful Quentin Dupieux movie belongs on this list. How about great movies like TimeCrimes, the Bothersome Man, Granny's Dancing on the Table or the recently released Boy Kills World
Only God Forgives is the movie I felt like what the hell was that all about after watching and made me feel quite disturbed after watching as well
Buckethead! A fine musical choice
Wish they would leave the name of the movie up on in the corner while they were talking about it
so many others that this could easily get a part 2
As a coach I'm seen things changing being the most intelligent kid and the one with the best grades are the most popular now because of how technology has changed everything good grades are the in thing to do
WhatCulture, please, please, please hire a copyeditor. Your videos are filled with tiny, infuriating mistakes that take me right out. Hell, I'd even copyedit for you for free.
Spoken like someone who has never seen movies from the 70 let alone the 80s go check those years and watch the crazy shid that came out then
Yeah, 10 movies I am not spending money on...
Watched greener grass,very weird
Annette is pretty amazing
Exotica.
Didn't know until 3:14 that this was an abduction report! 😲 Has the thrower of this net been identified?
The film that made me go WTAF? Has to be FRANKLYN. The constant switching between normalcy and whatever passes for derangement for the guy who believes that he exists in
a world where any and all belief systems (And I'm talking about shit so crazy, scientology sounds relatively normal.) must be upheld.
I love that movie
I have one question….
How on earth do these get financed?
Cloud Atlas
my movie for this list is 'Titan' came out around 2021ish that shit is BIZARRE dowsd in wtf 😅😂
Bottoms is one of the funniest movies in years. It’s a bit too Family Guy with its humor, but it does work
My husband loved the name of the show lol
Lucid Dream 2017 Poor Things this year
8:15 And there it is... Poor Things.
I remember the conservatives used to get stomped by the smart people for claiming films promote sexual licentious, depravity and extreme gore. But the cons were right.
Beau is Afraid and Poor Things are awful
Visitor Q should have been on this list. Absolutely bat shit movie.
10:23 So she faked her own death?
Hereditary....worst horror movie I have ever seen.
I liked Sorry to Bother you
"The Lighthouse". Worst voluntary time I've spent outside a dentist chair.
Titane.
I get the feeling words like surrealism and postmodern have become code for directors who mistake chaotically bad story telling with genius. More often than not cinematic genius is equivalent to blindly firing a gun loaded with paintballs and porn at a canvas and calling it art.
Just watching this lost to see if The Florida Project is on here. Hopefully in the top 3 slots. Worst movie I have ever wasted my time on.
Edit: Whelp, it wasn't on here. I'm just hoping its because i had a bad trip and fever dream at the same time and made the whole thing up. Otherwise, why Willem Dafoe, why?
"Tiptoes", a notorious movie that is offensive toward the "little people" community due to the casting of Gary Oldman as a dwarf and the plot line that is in bad taste...
I didn't like Poor Things.
why is bottoms on the list. its a bland comedy.
It was pretty grounded until the ending with the rival school murder plot and "final battle". Those last 10 minutes did feel almost like they belonged in a completely different movie. But I agree, it isn't in the same class as these other movies. 😅
Mother!
Just horrible.
So much pretentious nonsense.
Hereditary is not scary in any shape or form.
You don’t think so? Weird. It was definitely a little scary.
It was one of the worst movies I've watched in a long time I walked out of the theater and forced myself to watch it after everyone said it's so scary. It's not it sucks
I’m glad I never saw any of this garbage
I can happily say that I didn't spend a dime to watch any of these films. I'm the type to only pay to see films that interest me... and none of these would even come close to interesting me.
"Poor Things" was disgusting, cruel, and pointless.
Poor Things was creative, imaginative and fun.
@@jamespope7669 A film that celebrates a depraved liar and murderer. You must be a Republican.
generally a trailer gives you the idea of the film, y’all really scrapping the bottom of the barrel these days and some of your voices are annoying bring back jules more often as he’s calming to listen to
Don’t watch then🙄
Annoying like your comment
I mean not always but ok
What an awful, negative comment. Just keep your mouth shut.
The woke and terrible stories are strong with this one
Poor Things was good. It's strange today's generation has to know everything about the movie, before they watch it.
Do you realize there is nobody left living who saw " Father Knows Best"??? Update your snide references!!!
WE WANT ASH! WE WANT ASH!! WE WANT ASH!!! ASH, not this aaron nerd who refers to things from 75 years ago. ASH IS COOL. WE WANT ASH!!!
Um...(slowly raises hand)...It's currently on TWELVE streaming services.
Gozu. Prepare to feel squeamish...
