This video took some time to create and edit. When I used to watch videos, i thought it was easy to produce videos. Now I realised how much effort is needed to take raw footage, script, record audio, edit everything and put it all together. I like learning new things. It's fun. Key thing with hammer is... don't get greedy or you will be serverely punished! I run a paralysis hammer and personally use charge 1 alot, particularly with fast monsters like girros/legiana. Charge 2 is used to typically close up distance or to increase paralysis proc. Don't underestimate normal attacks, as they are great for building up procs due to quicker animations and more forgiving dodge windows. I avoid charge 3 due to the long charge time and cooldown animation, unless it's a Paolumu; because a good charge 3 hammer looks awesome on their fluffy heads.

Charge 1 & 2 is the best depending on the situation
Charge 1 is fast in completing the attack animation, so i always have enough time to dodge the attack after using
Charge 2 is good for hit and run, and since it swings the hammer from down to up, it's useful in hitting different body parts (such as hitting barroth's foreleg)
This is the first time i ever main hammer even though i play monster hunter since 3U, the hammer in this game just feels so satisfying and easy to use
@@kingfinallycome8763 charge 1 have low attack angles though, it's hard to hit if their head is high.

@@geosama1317 I used to rely on charge 2 90% of the time, but after meeting higher star monster, i realized the consecutive atk after charge 2's first hit is too risky to use because the animation is taking very long which makes me hard to dodge the upcoming monster's atk. Since then i use charge 1 and 2 equally based on the situation
But there's nothing right or wrong, find your most comfortable play style is the most important thing 👍

One importtant note about charging on hammer is that you can still dodge while charging just like the base games. Great vid, it's nice seeing the whole weapon moveset.
How do you do this? I hold down, and swiping with my other thumb does nothing.

How does affinity works? Especially for the Barioth hammer. Do I focus on the affinity bonus coming from the hammer itself or ice elemental damage?
Affinity can be simply explained as crit chance. 10% affinity means 10% chance to deal crit dmg.
Crit dmg = extra 25% dmg on top of your regular attacks.
Atm, it is still better to go with ice attack 5 for the guaranteed +500 ice attack.
You forgot about the heroics build fot endgame, and also paralysis set would better like this imo: kulu helm, anja chest, paolumu arms,girros waist, diablos legs, this will help u boost and spam special attack wich stacks stun and paralysis much faster.
A build that i'm currently running is geared towards evasion, mostly because i like the dodge mechanic of the game. With that, i run pukei helm and chest, kadachi arms and legs, and paolumu waist coz i don't know what else to run. The hammer i'm using is the kulu one for the crits
cool. How is that working out for you so far? And how far are you into the game?
It's working out great for me, getting those perfect dodges then going back in with either a lvl 1 or a lvl 2 charge coz getting a prefect dodge puts u back in with a lvl 1 charge, then dodging out again to avoid getting hit. I'm currently hr 37 and i just beat rathian, might tweak the set again to change it to a poison atk one, swapping out the chest and waist for rathian ones for the poison atk, and sticking with the pukei helm for the focus

wait, hammer can trigger the burst skill? how much of a window do you have to do so? I saw somewhere that you need 5 hits to activate it, so I thought that would be too hard with the hammer
I thought it was supposed to be 10 hits or something. Tbh I cannot confirm. Burst should be one of the lowest priority skill for hammer since hammer attacks so slowly.
@@shawnzyplays that's what I thought, which is why I plan on sticking with the kulu helm for lock on since it gives crit eye which would be more useful than burst
You forgot about perfect evade attacks. Holding attack will allow you to charge up to twice much faster than regular charges.

just realize today shield bash from sword+shield combo has same effect like a hammer, can break a part that can only done with blunt weapon

If black diablos comes back, you could make that. Else normal diablo is pretty solid too.
diablos hammer is kinda special? it has really high atk at further grade. focus on stun or breaking parts better?
yes diablos hammer has the highest attack by far. i like to focus on stun by hitting the head, and part breaks will happen naturally.

i didnt think i had to list it because there's only 1 option per element. For raw it is usually just diablos.

I'll still with 2 and try to do a big bang combo. Charge 3 cannot be linked to any combo. Charge 1 and 2 can.

no idea i didnt get them. As long as you've cleared one, the armour and weapon would be unlocked. I just took screenshots.. haha.

tbh para/poison and raw seems like a good mid game option. At end game, element weapons are the ones that will help you progress...
at least this is based on the current armour pieces avail.

Hammer-Tastic! Great guide! I love hammer in the main-line games. Been excited to pick it up but have been trying to be resourceful and sticking to SnS so far.
With the Diablos event coming up it seems like the Diablos hammer is the best overall hammer to have in the game right now?
It really does pack a punch. But once again, if we're talking about ennnnnnnnndgame, then elemental still trumps raw.
@@shawnzyplays That makes sense. And I wish all the mainline games followed the same rule. It seems to depend on the weapon type more. The faster and more rapid weapons usually do better with element/status, I believe. Raw for the slower and high damage number types.
But I think the Elemental types takes much more time and effort to build up a collection of to match the roster of monsters and their weakness .
Given the event coming up I hope maybe I can land at least the hammer. But honestly the armor set seems fun for hammer too.

Concentration helps fill up special attack faster(that big yellow button)

I would think that if you're using elemental LS, you should aim to get as much elemental attack as you can, followed by some crit, and maybe 1-2 focus.

Yeah I'll probably do one for LS. Already started recording clips here and there but I gotta do some research first.
I'm currently using the girros hammer and loving it so far, although my build is more on the safe side because I suck at dodging most of the time. Kulu Helm, Anjanath Chest (to be replaced by either Legiana or Diablos whichever comes first lol), Paolumu Gloves, Paolumu Waist, and Diablos Legs. Currently still stuck at the story quest where I need to kill 2 Legiana, but Diablos is really easy with this set so far.

@@Dredabeast95 I just beat the 2nd lap of the story. Was able to beat a couple of 7* monsters already too. My weapon is now grade 6 level 2

I just made it to 2nd Lap, Im fighting (sorry im TRYING to fight LOL) purple star monsters currently 🙏🏾 ive beat a couple (Rathian, Kulu Ya Ku and Girros) any other one i cannot defeat yet and they destroy me lol but im loving it tho! Im having trouble getting Legiana webbing for her chest armor piece and its making me sad but maybe its a sign to focus on offense and not worry about defense lol
@@Dredabeast95 I would say don't get the armors for their defense stat, but rather their skills which would benefit your weapon and playstyle. My armors have changed since my initial comment. I now use the Kulu helm, Legiana chest, Paolumu gloves, and Diablos coil and legs. I'm doing this kinda weird build where I try to do as much CC as possible to open up opportunities to attack lol. So my skills are divine blessing 3,slugger 2,and part breaker 2. Stuns, flinches, paralysis, and part breaks at least once each per hunt. Comes in clutch sometimes lol
i will build it like your last build, but swap to diablos greaves, for stun damage and partbreaker, which is good for hammer imo
It is! Focus level is really just a preference so if you can do without it, sure!

para, poison and raw(diablos) seems like it would do well.
Just how signifiant is Focus? Ive been playing without it forever. Ive been using kulu/jaggras/kulu/jaggras/kulu with Diablos and now Kulu hammer 7 5/5
it is pretty good. With focus 3, i can charge twice(to level 3), evade at the beginning of level 4 charge, and fire off level 4 when im done with my evade.

I dont think high focus should help for hammer. Due to hammer can walk to monster and still charge. Some time you just need lv2 charge to hit the head. And go big bang combo. If focus too high, you will go with lv3 charge and it is not always good with lv3 charge. Just lv1 focus or 0 is ok to go bonk some monster head
yeah i think its really personal preference in the end. I tried it on focus 1 and 2 but it feels weird (for me).

@@Ceseleone you can, but i also think you can drop focus to just level 1 or 2 and build up even more dmg on the LS.

sorry man its just a noob set up using the earpiece that the phone came with. Thanks for the feedback though. I'll see what i can do next time. Maybe i'll put a cloth over the mic to soften the voice input.
@@shawnzyplays another option you have is try putting the phone’s mic to the side so you aren’t doing pops directly into it.
Also if you are having trouble with ambient tone try putting a blanket over your head and mic. It’s a great method for if you don’t have soundproofing in your recording area.
