Behind the Big Date of A.Lange & Söhne

- Have you ever wondered about the origin of the iconic Big Date aperture on A. Lange & Söhne #watches? We did as well after seeing an intricate table #clock at the @alangesoehne booth at Watches & Wonders in 2023.
It appears that the #story behind this signature feature mysteriously connects Dresden, the Semperoper, and the Lange family for centuries. Moreover, it showcases, once again, the ingenuity of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, who was also the first watchmaker in Europe to introduce the metric system in his workshop.
Bearing the same spirit of #innovation and attention to detail, Lange's descendants continue on a journey in search of ultimate precision. To better understand the concept behind each #timepiece, its coherence with the legacy of the #brand, and why they have to be assembled and disassembled at least twice, we explored the manufacturing process and examined different #watch collections and the ideas behind each design.
So, which one of A. Lange & Söhne will you choose?

This was so good! I always liked Lange but now I want to add one to my collection!
As a collector about to have his “ooof moment” and buy his first Lange. I cannot thank you enough for this video. There is not a lot of content (comparatively) on Lange and this was a god send! So thank you! However. Next time could you ask them if a person who buys a second hand watch gets treated at a boutique as a collector or are they just seen as people that walk off the street 😅
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Dear Mark Andre
Aa always, you are bringing us the best of the best.
Many thanks for the unique mesmerizing episode
With huge appreciation
Nizar
Thanks so much, really appreciated 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Marc Andre for this thorough report!
Our immense pleasure, thanks for your message 👍
Thanks Marc, Love anything about learning A. Lange & Sohne history all are beautiful time pieces. ⌚👍
oh brilliant !! very interesting. I love the ZEITWERK
❤. Great video. Love my grand L1 lume. A Loupers delight. Keep ‘em coming
Checked RUclips all day in a different timezone (waiting for the release of this) and boy was it a brutal wait. But, so worth it ;_; !!
Can't wait to get my first Lange (in the far, far future of course :D)
Very happy to read this and yes we wish you the best for you for this first piece 👍👍👍
Fantastic episode. Thanks 🙏
These educational videos are brilliant. It’s always great to see the history of brands rather than just hearing about case diameter and lug widths! More of these videos would be appreciated 👍
Thank you for this very interesting video 👌
Lange und Söhne best ✨
Glad you liked it, makes us happy
A stunning video as always, thanks a lot for this! Some months ago I had the pleasure of (for a few minutes while buying a much cheaper watch alas) wearing a Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon and was able to admire the extreme craftmanship of the company and the immaculate finish of the watch. Truly an experience to behold!
Great video and great content, as usual. At 39:11, the zero reset is one of the nicest features of the Sax-O-Mat. I can only imagine those Langematik watch prices climbing up as they don't offer this on the Lange 1.
Thanks for the comprehensive Lange episode Marc. It's so nice to see the way Lange has been evolving without losing its identity and tradition. Definitively the way to go!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Have seen numerous videos about Lange and this one was by far the best at tying the history together with today’s Lange watches! Much appreciated…!
Wow, thank you!
Wunderbar! Thank you Marc Andre…(and thank you for the “Viva” Swiss Army Knife!!!! I treasure it as will my son!)❤
Thank you for your support!
Wonderful insight, thank you for your work putting this together. Looking forward to seeing other top end manufacturers in this depth.
Many thanks Mark, this was more like a full-length documentary program than a mere video! I know stuff like this probably doesn't get as many views as it deserves, but I really appreciate you putting the time and effort into it regardless!
Great video Marc Andre and a very interesting documentary. Thank you.❤️🙏
My favorite brand. Thank you so much for yet another great video.
Brilliant...I love nuanced details, this works!
Also, just curious, at 38:32 I can see that the older Lange 1's movement pops much more than the newer ones. What do you think explains this difference? Do you think it's a typical case of "they don't make them like they used to" :D?
Obviously different lighting angles
@@chia-mingyang5804 what is making that very 'obvious'? Certainly, there is more value in hearing from the actual handlers of those watches i.e. the vide authors, unless of course, you are a primary source for a similar comparison?
Great video thanks 😊 🙏
Thanks
Marc, very good video.
Which one would I choose (if I had the money)? The Odysseus, blue dial.
The german subtitles are missing
It’s on now 👍👍👍
@@watchestv-com Parts of the videos in germans does not have subtiles in english. Thank you for those amazing videos
Nice watches
So was Lange the FIRST watch brand to do this oversized date?!
Not really, it's an "old" complication used on pocket watches at the time, but they definitely made it theirs! All the best
Pity there were no sub-titles in English while those speaking in German. Content is very educational to all ages.
Now it should work 😉
@@watchestv-comIt does work 👍
nice
waaaay to few views 😱
Did you have any idea that you were going to sit with Chancellor Palpatine?
Hahaha ;)
Sorry to telling this, this chanel is like whole industry, best quality, no customers.
Thanks so much 🙏🙏
Ah German and French watches are
