  • This is the final scene from "Spider" (the fifth episode of the HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon.") The dialogue (and other on-screen sounds) has been removed, leaving behind just the isolated musical score. I added captions if you want to follow along with the missing dialogue.
Mason Daring is the composer; be sure to checkout his website: www.masondaring.com/
    ---
For this "music only" soundtrack, I simply removed the center channel from the 5.1 DVD soundtrack (i.e., the center channel has all the dialogue.) But even after isolating just the music, there were substantial volume fluctuations; it would go real quiet during any instances of dialogue/narration that had been in the center channel. So I simply increased and decreased the level manually while I recorded it (the audio is an analog capture.)
    Enjoy!

Agreed! I can't count how many times I've watched the series. But it's been a good ten years for me; I'm gonna have to do it again real soon!

A personal, heartfelt thanks for doing this work. That music - even the whole miniseries and this ep especially - bears a special significance to me, and always will.

WONDERFUL! What a really excellent series, and a fitting tribute to the many thousands of men and women who made Project Apollo happen.

I just wish we could have also covered more of Gemini beyond just IV, VIII and XII, and continued through Skylab and the symbolic conclusion to the Space Race (the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project) which finally became Deke Slayton's vindication, as he would say after launch "that was worth waiting 16 years for"

"A LM is just a machine and machines don't have a soul. We may yell at our toasters and give names to our cars, but in the end even a LM is just a collection of wires, circuits, nuts and bolts. I dunno.... I think each LM does have a soul. Its the soul of all those who built her,... designed her,... first dreamed of her"
Those last words hit me hard, especially as it fades to Tom Dolan's proud face

@@kossai1989 Tom Dolan also appeared in the end with John Houbolt, and it faded into Dolan's face with that Cameron (Ferris Bueller) smirk as Tom Kelley's voice over said "first dreamed of her" before he turned and asked "which number is this one?"
Tom Dolan was also not fictional, according to this

This series is so magical through the triumph and tragedy. I wish I was alive around that time even though I was born in 1991. And back in those days 60s I have a disability they would of locked me, but I love the 60s-70s.

@@rawyld There is unfortunately rather thick nostalgia glasses we sometimes wear. As great as it would have been to witness these things happening in real time,... there were other things that were closer to home and far more prominent,... and scary.
And you might end up discouraged by how quickly and easily the American people at large just gave up on the moon after the first landing.

Jim McDivitt would have been a great 1st man on the moon and no disrespect to the great Neil Armstrong. McDivitt, Borman and Armstrong were the only astronauts to command their first flights.

"Spider/Eagle" (though alas, like almost all of Mason Daring's music for FtEttM, it was never officially released, as far as I am aware).
