    I love your passion Brian. That’s a beautiful looking boat and loving how you are introducing tumblehome into the design.

    This is really fantastic Brian. I've always liked skin on frame, but as a canoeist I've noticed that all the skin on frame guys come at canoes subconsciously as a kayaker. This leads to unstable canoes without a flat enough bottom. You are really thinking like a canoeist here and it shows. Really fascinating, and I'm looking forward to looking back at your canoe evolution and your journey forward.

    Another great design and an excellent video. I am sure the amount of rocker will be about right for a lot of paddlers.

    12:30 I think I get what you were aiming for, but that’s still a handsome shape there.

    Amazing experience. In the future, I'll do at least one of this, but first my intent is make some pack canoe to learn. At moment, I'm just calculating the expenses with the tools that I don't have yet and looking for a good steam bending wood to replace the white oak here in Brazil. With my vacation on the way, I intend to finish the canoes by the end of the year.

      A pack Canoe is a great place to start. Quick easy build that gets you familiar with the system

    I love the look of these skin on frame canoes. My only hang up is the best thing about a canoe is the flat bottom that you can lay down on, throw a bunch of gear on, take a bunch of people in, have dogs in, etc. Is the skin strong enough to handle someone putting their foot between the wooden frame and into the skin? Will it handle dog nails?

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  Год назад +1

      To get a sense of what the skin will and won’t handle check out the other video I have here on the channel titled skin on frame durability. This will give you a good overview and then if there’s anything you’re not clear on, feel free to throw another question in the comments.

      @@capefalconkayak I did watch the video about damage in crashes, it was very impressive. I'm more curious about placing your foot in the wrong place. Be it a human foot, or a dog foot with claws. :)

    I'm working out which design to make. Something like this one with a bit of tumblehome, but as a tandem is most likely. I'll need to see how you predict rocker.

    • @capefalconkayak
      @capefalconkayak  3 года назад

      I don’t do Tumblehome in tandems Because you would have to put a couple thwarts in the middle to hold the shape, and the Tumblehome you would get would only be right in the center section where you’re not doing anything with the paddle so from a paddling perspective you’re not gaining anything but from the building perspective you’re losing something. Rocker is pretty simple just follow the latest recommendation.

    • @alans1816

      @@capefalconkayak I would have thought that the seats could act as thwarts to hold on sides, as in the solo. I do realize each seat curve would need to be extreme and specific to its position. Seats and a yoke should be pretty significant bracing.

    I've been watching since your first canoe build with the intention of building one in the near future. But I find the longer I wait the better your designs are getting. In your videos you often state that for a person of your frame size these work great. Since you are mostly building them as test pieces might I suggest building one for a person with a large frame size and seeing how it turns out. I am 6'2 250lbs and would love to build one of your canoes but I am not knowledgeable enough with canoe design to modify your designs to fit me. For instance for me a two person canoe in order to hold me and another person and gear would need to be able to hold 600 - 800 pounds. Is that doable with your designs? Even a solo canoe would need to be able to hold up to about 400lbs. I'm hoping this year to build one but that's what is said last year also haha but one day for sure.
    Thank you for the videos and please keep them coming.

    I had planned to build a strip canoe until I discovered your system. Great work! I've been wondering about tripping with a dog in a SOF boat. You mentioned doing that in this video. Just wondering how the skin holds up if a (30 lb) dog is walking on it.

    I like your videos very much ! Next I ‘ll make the boat by myself. May I try to translate it to Chinese and put it on bilibili ? Because we cannot use youtube .Hope more and more Chinese people can see them.
