I'm an A&P mechanic & we had to learn how to put on dope & fabric. It was a process they used on WW2 planes. It wasn't even around anymore but we still had to learn how to do it. This looks very similar to what we did, except we sewed the fabric on in certain places. Like down the very center & on the edges. Then we would shrink it with a hot iron that you iron clothes with, we also used a hot air gun. The fabric would get so tight like the heads on a snare drum. Then we would paint it with a pair t called dope that had aluminum in it. It was kinda like the resin on fiber glass. The material we used was a type of cotton clothe that shrunk with beat. I started the school in July of 1990, it was called Hallmark Aviation College.
I work on seagoing tugboats. We don’t heel, but man can we roll. We stuff life jacket under the mattress when we go plowing through wheel house high seas. Head on one hand , one leg bent and trapped under the other knee, are the basics of the art of dynamic sleeping. Keep up the adventure!
I was going to make a comment about Iefke hogging the iron and Matts state of dress but realised how rude that would have been. However the iron has been used for a greater cause and the dingy looks sensational😍 and I just love the interior layout too❤
That is something else, an iron on boat skin, like what the hell? All kidding aside, what a beautiful dinghy! Your boat interior is laid out nicely, makes perfect sense to me.
Your Classic 10 is looking so beautiful! I built the classic 12 and wanted to keep it as true to Platt Monfort’s design and plans as possible, but I love your transom and seat details!
The dinghy looks amazing!!! What’s the skin made of btw? It makes perfect sense to change the boat’s plan to suit your needs, I’d do the same. I might some day build my own, well hopefully anyways. Would love to see the revised interior plan of your boat. I must say that the build is coming along beautifully, especially seeing parts of her interior glassed and painted. Looking forward to your next vid.
That's a wonderful dinghy. I actually have the same classic 10 kit in a box here. I haven't started on it yet. I want to finish my lounge ceiling first, that's going to take a while.
Is this the same dinghy you were selling raffle tickets to as part of the AWBF boat shed tour in 2022? If so, what is the status of those who already purchased a ticket?
Yes correct and you name was written down at the time so do not fear! So any already purchased ticket has just as much chance. Thanks for your support back then.
Such a beautiful thing. There are many ways to live a life. I can't think of a better one than this.

I also used dope when replacing the canvas on the cabin top of our 1940 Chris Craft, wonderful stuff with a wicked smell.

So beautiful! May I know what type fabric you are using
Congratulations, it's very nice, what is the type of material you used?
Please, I am asking kindly to specify what these white dingue material are. What's going to be applied over it?? Fiberglass? Carbon?
You guys are are doing an abso lute lee fan tass tic job on the boat.
Tip of the hat to the woman who is doing all the work. she's pretty handy

Stay with the roundabout circle way. It works

So the Mrs is making her get away from you boat aye for her time alone ha ha
That’s basically how you build a timber / fabric aircraft.
Yep exactly! They are pretty much based on airplane builds
