  • The Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow left FC Twente fuming after his quick thinking avoided a potential goal threat.
    Subscribe to Guardian News on RUclips ► bit.ly/guardian...
    Feyenoord were winning 1-0 when Bijlow raced out of his area to make a tackle. His pace saw him beat Twente's Virgil Misidjan to the ball at the expense of a throw, but with Bijlow stranded on the sidelines the forward sensed an opportunity for a quick goal.
    Bijlow's quick thinking scuppered that idea however, as the Feyenoord keeper grabbed a stray ball and threw it onto the pitch to stop play, much to Misidjan's chagrin. The Twente winger threw the ball at the keeper in anger, and Bijlow received a yellow card for his gamesmanship.

      Fair play to him? Are you joking? That’s deliberate cheating and it’s absolutely pathetic.
      Mistiming a tackle and accidentally tripping someone up is one thing, but to deliberately cheat like that, to obviously gain a significant advantage, is terrible behaviour and I wish the referee had something at their disposal in the rules to send the player off. I would have thought denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity, but I’d need to see it from a different angle and also I don’t know exactly how the law is worded and what it covers.

    • @andrewmay1299
      @andrewmay1299 Год назад +15

      On second viewing, in fairness to the keeper, it’s difficult to tell which of the two balls is the one that was previously in play. If the ball the goalkeeper tackled was a separate ball to the one that the other team were about to throw into play, then the goalkeeper should not be disadvantaged in that way and should at least be allowed the time it takes for the original ball to be retrieved, to return towards their box.
      That is unfair to the goalkeeper this time, if they slide-tackle a ball out of play and before they’ve barely had time to return to their feet, or to the field of play, the other team are ready to throw a different ball into play. I don’t think that’s how football is supposed to work. I’m not sure that’s the purpose of having multiple footballs available, it’s meant to be a single-ball game at the end of the day.
