First off, this conversation about Fantasia was great and so interesting, and second Happy belated birthday Lu! As an additional note, an episode diving into Kingdom Hearts would be amazing and so cool!!
I say, The Dance of the Hours is my favorite segment, is just so... looney. And I think you guys should cover the sequence, because I think is very underated.
Happy Belated Birthday Lu! Night on Bald Mountain was a clip of animation that I loved and was afraid of at the same time when I was a kid. I saw the clip years before I ever saw the full fantasia movie because it was featured in a made for TV special where Walt talked about music in animation. It also had a deleted scene from Snow White in it about the Dwarves washing their hands before getting to eat.
I would also love to watch a live Fantasia show. that would be really cool. I'm not sure I'd want to live in any of the worlds in fantasia. If I had to choose, I guess maybe Pastoral's mythology setting, but only because I do love some classic mythology. Night on Bald Mountain is my favorite segment still, but too spoopy to live in it.
Also have to add that the problematic sections of the pastoral scene was removed before it's re-release to theatres in 1969, which is why most people don't remember ever seeing it. But also fun fact about the editing in that scene: the centaurs were topless originally, but Disney was told it couldn't be released like that, and they had to go back and reanimate it with the flowers covering them. Also, sadly because of how sound was stored in film, the music recording degraded so much over the years that they couldn't restore the sound for the 1980s theatre release, and had to re-record the music for the nutcracker suit and Night on Bald mountain sections. Some nitpicky people say that the mushroom sequence doesn't line up correctly anymore. I personally can't tell.
