I like how he sometimes get off-track for a short moment or two. I get bonus trivia, and it reminds me how "organic" his videos and content are. Reminds me that the maker of this channel's contents is a human and that he really has studied and analyzed the things he talks about personally and this is not purely impersonal business, y'know? It's pretty admirable.
holy i love this habit creation session. i just started trying to add some positive habits to my life and these tipps are SO MUCH APPRECIATED. perfect timing! thanks a lot!
cue: new video from practical psychology or one of my other favorite youtubers. habit: leave a comment so people can find my videos too. reward: motivation boost cue: motivation boost habit: work on youtube videos reward: feeling good because I'm doing something useful thanks practical psychology :D
I think there should also be an emphasis on developing "foundational" habits, especially for those who didn't / don't / haven't developed them, since they also serve as 'precursor' habits. Does a world of good. Kudos for the 'amygdala' clarification. Most people will never appreciate their basal ganglia, but, like most utilities (e.g. water, electric, sewer, etc.): "people only notice when it's NOT working". That's another learned psychology habit (expectations) video for another day, though. Good job on the video. There's a small dopamine boost for you for the next video.
Good video, but one of the main reasons building good habits is hard is because many rewards are often bad. Like most people's idea of a reward is eating sugary or junk food, masturbating, playing video games, scrolling through social media mindlessly. All these things can have huge negative effects on your life if you do them to much. So what I'm saying is basically there are not many rewards for completing habits which are actually positive, (for me anyway).
That's pretty cool :D It makes sense then, that I was very succesfull in establishing a water drinking habbit by using getting up from my desk as a cue. I was tracking my water intake as well, so adding the extra glasses to my tracker worked as a reward :)
I really like this idea but what are you do if your schedule can be a little erratic? What about if you go on vacation or you're staying at someone else's house and you can't really follow up with these things?
Yo man I love your videos! I Try to listen to one everyday in my headphones at work, very motivational! Do you have a video geared towards quitting alcohol? Been struggling with it not sure I'm at the point of AA but your videos are awesome so please let me know whatcha got on that subject!
You are talking very well. Everything is looks like so easy but sometimes it is so difficult for me :( You know some people so shy or waking early is not easy I want to write something good but I don't know how to start :/
Slapping yourself with a rubber band is positive punishment not negative reinforcement. :). Anytime you're reducing a behaviour it's punishment, anytime you're increasing behaviour it's reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is adding a pleasant stimulus, negative reinforcement is removing an unpleasant stimulus. Where as positive punishment is adding a negative stimulus (pain from a runner bandand) amd negative punishment is taking a pleasant stimulus away. I only know this because I'm studying it for my degree atm Haha.
Wait wait. So what is the stimulus when trying to remove a habit? The habit itself? So for exle, I bite my nails. That is the stimulus and the positive punishment is the rubber band pain?
Hey, Practical Psychology! I'm amazed of how you're doing these content everyday for a few days! 😇 I too have a RUclips Channel, and post content, but I can only manage for once a week! 😉 I've college and studies, but I want to be more regular at doing this! Please tell me how you do it? How are you Super-Productive? Please look into it, and btw, I really liked this video - Habit + Reward😊
get your priorities straight I would say. I'm at university and I upload twice per week, I could upload more often, but I think twice is enough. Analyze your day and check on what tasks you spend most time on and ask yourself whether you actually want to spend your time on those. Its easy to get lost in a facebook newsfeed or in youtube videos. we all have the same time, we just have different priorities. Get your priorities in line and the rest will follow.
Personal Power, Thanks man! I checked your channel too. Thats Cools 🆒 And the thing I've noticed is - I keep thinking the tasks are daunting and procrastinating, but I'll start working on all this!! 😉 Have a Great Day, dude! 🍻
Practical, what do you think about the 4 hour work week and the idea of consuming less info? I have so many things going on that it would be hard to create a new habit. 🤣 I have a question, I need your opinion. Should I make 3 10 minutes videos per week or a 3-5 min video daily?
6:25 isn't that positive punishment? or can someone explain :P cause punishment to reduce the occurrence and positive as its the addition of getting hurt by the band
One criticism I'd have is that sometimes you speak a little too quickly and words are lost, and there's a fair amount of time spent on transitional phrases like "you know", "um", or hesitations- I think that a tighter script and more audio editing afterwards could make your videos more succinct :)
Are you trying to talk without a script and record everything at once? Because in your previous videos you were more organized, you didn't do so many mistakes and you didn't say the same thing over and over again and I liked that more.
Love your channel, love your videos. The delivery of your speech lately, though, was not up to the polished, articulate, clear standard of your better videos - it really undermines your credibility. The stuttering, incomplete sentences, inconsistent rhythm makes it sound like you were unprepared. I know you're trying to crank out more videos but thought I'd try and give this feedback, and look forward to more great content!
When there was this voting on an older video wether you'll think you will watch all episodes of this seriers, I clicked on no, but im on the best way, to have to correct myself... funny
Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for good habits but if you make a habit out of anything... What's the point of being human and making decisions on the fly? Your life will become automated and you live like a machine.People want habits to get rid of making bad decisions I guess. What about mindfulness and making the right decisions in the moment with higher awareness? If you're mindful enough you have control and not your body that tells you to eat more chocolate or to smoke, don't you?The way to this kind of awareness is very difficult I imagine. I'm far from it too. Your video just made me think "wow that sounds like machine and preprogrammed life"Maybe I see it differently.
It may be a programmed life, but it's a code you chose to do, because of your reasons, and also worked hard to implement them. You can also decide to change and improve on your habits, as you see fit. So it's not as if you're bound to it. It's the path you choose, and many things take repetition in order to be mastered. But one thing I agree a lot with what you said is the mindfulness. It's dangerous to get to a point where you do something so much but don't remember well anymore why you do it so much. Having good habits is super important, but it's just as important to always remind yourself why you do them, or they lose meaning and power.
Habits could be practicing piano. I still have fun playing piano, but practice is a neccessary habit to have to literally do anything that's involved in learning hands on things. So it's not really a machine unless you believe all very skilled people are machines. Machine assumes you're devoid of any satisfaction. Maybe you repeat actions, but these habits are part of your day, they aren't the entire day. Your habit could be to think of something to do that's new everyday. Or you can still do something spontaneously outside of habits because there day is still there Habits are just repetitive actions but they're neccessary for life, spontaneity is also neccessary. It's a balance
And "The Bold type". Seriously, the men on that show of modern feminism are complete sexual objects to the feminists and are always being forced into a kiss or into a bed. And all the so-called women act like complete 9 year olds everytime someone kisses or someone gives a light insult that doesn't deserve a punch in the face. Forget feminism, trying alter the way the world is and was since the beginning. Women give birth and men give support FOR THE WOMEN! That was said by a anti-feminist who IS A WOMAN and it is pure fact.
I feel like your "rewards" aren't really rewards... more like necessities. For example, my reward for not binging Game of Thrones is sleep, kind of pointless "rewards" that I'll still do regardless but that's just me.
sorry to say this, but this could be a really shorter video... it is so obvious that you purposefully made this video longer, and I really dont like it, you kept repeating the same shit, I liked the videos you made before a lot more and the mic was better too
BOOM and your life is a freaking nightmare of dead repetitions in order to be not with what is at the moment. Habits can be very harmful, even you might consider them worthwhile.
The basal ganglia are not where your spinal cord meets your brain. That's your brain stem, specifically Medulla, the basal ganglia are near the center of your brain, specifically the area around the Thalamus. Good video but please make sure of your scientific statements before you post them, cause misinformation sucks. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_ganglia
This video seemed off. You were rushed but yet talking in circle, maybe in part of trying to make a longer video for the VPM but I'd suggest not doing it this way. You might loose your audience

I like how real the video is, like it didn't seem you were on a script completely by going off on a tangent, I like it
By doing this, *BOOM* you have a whole morning routine! Brilliant.
I like how he sometimes get off-track for a short moment or two. I get bonus trivia, and it reminds me how "organic" his videos and content are. You kinda talk like Morty from RIck and Morty....thanks for the video Morty!!!

I somehow like your 'deviations' from topic like that brain structure part. They make you sound more natural
Thanks for the video,, it was very helpful
Thanks for the great video, but above all else, for perservering!! :)
1 MILLION Nearing

This is a great video because I need to try reading more than watching TV.
Great video!
From my knowledge of hypnosis, and from what I read on the Net, affirmations work better when stated in the present tense
I really like this idea but what are you do if your schedule can be a little erratic? What about if you go on vacation or you're staying at someone else's house and you can't really follow up with these things?
great video my habit is watching your videos but i think it starting to turn into an addiction
Amazing video
Amazing!
Really enjoyed it, love from Iran... What software u use to create these videos?
Thanks , you are awesome

How would you form the habit of waking up early in the morning using this technique? Because there will not be any cue to wake up, right?
One criticism I'd have is that sometimes you speak a little too quickly and words are lost, and there's a fair amount of time spent on transitional phrases like "you know", "um", or hesitations- I think that a tighter script and more audio editing afterwards could make your videos more succinct :)
You eat right before running? How little do you eat?
where is the background song in ur vid??
Nice!
Year two of seeing this come up in my algorithm.
Isn't it bad to run right after eating, though?
Good plan mate, i can just imagine how your first day of this plan went. Day#1: wake up, groan, roll over back to sleep. boom!!
thankyou
Are you trying to talk without a script and record everything at once? Because in your previous videos you were more organized, you didn't do so many mistakes and you didn't say the same thing over and over again and I liked that more.
Helpful, but how do i break bad habits?
Love your channel, love your videos. The delivery of your speech lately, though, was not up to the polished, articulate, clear standard of your better videos - it really undermines your credibility. What books did you read to make these videos on habits? I guess the Power of Habit, but did you read more?
*Mini Habits: Smaller Habits, Bigger Results* - Stephen Guise is recommended . I can bet you gonna love it
i would also like to know this

What kind of a mad man takes cold showers as a reward.
If u do that as a chain it won´t work!
Just think about it if u break one cue the others are down as well
LomK4 I think he'll still eat breakfast ;) so it does work in this case.
I actually wanna know if people really do these stuff that practical psychology advises you to do.. And does it actually work?
Read the book- power of habit
TBH: That we need to do such things in order to effectively create new habits just shows how primitive our brains still are : /
Yes we never evolved from the monkey brain.
I created a habit too. Whenever I remembered my ex I'd stab my arms with a pen. Not as a reward, it was a punishment. I still have some marks.
I see what you did with the word positive on 11:00 😏
Hi please try making vedios of how to get rid of netflix series like GOT and BIG BANG. PLSE

Ashutosh Kumar Verma find something that annoys you big time about the show and always remember that
How about ignoring them in the menu..? How is your comment related to practical psychology, or personal development.
What is the science behind it? Is there any evidence for that?
