In regards to 2:47 on Shotcut's playback performance for 4K, in settings there are 2 features to fix this: Preview scaling and proxies. Both options address any lag with playback issues. Preview scaling address lag that come from using effects and proxies are to provide smooth seeking and playback while editing. So when using both playback lag will pretty much be solved. A shame you weren't aware of this when doing the review.

I had the same frustration with Resolve...but after done the Blackmagic´s free courses they gave this year, I realized it´s way better than Premiere (I´m a Adobe user from 20 years more less), but it has a learning curve. Because they have a different approach to editing tasks and you need to make some changes in your "editor way of thinking" and workflow...but it definetelly worth it, because it seems to become in the new standard in this industry very soon.
These software are finally getting recognition. I suggest everyone to try these softwares instead of thinking Adobe Pr. is the only good video editing software and trying to get it pirated.
i love how premiere's default shortcuts work like charm, pressing c to cut at the playhead, which is so difficult to do with davinci, even with their premiere pro preset.
If you haven't already know how to edit or you never used premiere Davinci is a very good software to start. It does a little bit more complicated than premiere but the Davinci workflow is a totally different workflow from premiere as Jordy mentioned, you have to get used to. For instance, resolve has a 'cut' and a 'edit' page, most people including me didn't know a shit about it and it was a little bit confusing. But after some learning I found that's very efficient. You organize all of your footage and sort them by anything you want, hit in and out mark and add them to the track one by one on cut page, add simple effects and trim footage on edit page, then use a node based video-in to video-out FX page and a node based color grading page which will record every step you did and able to revert at anytime. it's a really seamless workflow, from left to right, I found it's better for me than premiere. Also, resolve has better hardware utilization, it will take more resource from GPU rather than 99%CPU, much more friendly for Ultrabooks with MX350.

Tbh I think the free version of Davinci has a lot better workspace and better features than hitfilm. Still started with hitfilm though, since it was a lot easier for me to handle at the beginning.

When I was switching to Resolve, I had to relearn a few things that seemed basic to Premiere because of that node based system. But now that I'm editing with Resolve full time, the node based system is actually a lot better especially with more complex clips opposed to a stacked timeline.
I don't really like it. I miss the simple "set a cut and the clip disappears" yk. And then there is no sound! Wtf?! How do you want to edit any movement syncronized to music? Node system in general aren't bad but I stay where I come from - layers!
I got premier pro for free through my school and my trial just ended I’m so sad😭😭 I’m trying to get something just like it, because cracked versions are just... not good

Thanks for the review! Is there a way to use multiple sequence tabs (timelines) in Hitfilm Express? I could not find it but love the software overall for simpler video editing.
I was previously a lightworks user, and being honest, I had severe stability issues. Specially it used to freeze every now and then (Chroma key and Color correction was a pain!) until I decided I had to leave it. And its not because of my specs cuz later when I installed Premiere, it worked fine!

the only draw back to Hitfilm Express is that there isn't common audio effects like compressor or noise reducer (unless you pay the price) and also it does not except muilti track video files

Kdenlive is a strong contender - or would be if it wasn't so bloody unstable. When it works though, it's incredible considering it's opensource.
