- Written by Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson, I first heard this tune played by Kathryn Tickell on Northumbrian Smallpipes. I adapted a harmony part I found somewhere to the left side of the concertina, and also hold down a drone key with my left pinkie for the whole second half of the video.
Here's what Tom wrote about the tune in his book Ringing Strings:
"I was coming out of Eshaness in late January, 1969, the time was after 11 pm and as I looked back at the top of the hill leading out of the district I saw so few lights compared to what I remembered when I was young. As I watched, the lights started going out one by one. That, coupled with the recent death of my late wife, made me think of the old word 'Slockit,' meaning, a light that has gone out, and I think that was what inspired the tune." - Видеоклипы
i'm just starting to get really into my concertina, and this video is very inspiring. great playing! wonderful, pensive tune
Wow - that was great! I'm learning Anglo, but I'll keep going for a year to get competent, then I want to learn duet.
I heard Andy May play it on Northumbrian Small Pipes with Kathryn Tickell on the viola.
Wow this was great! I'm looking to pick up a Concertina but I wonder is it harder to learn than a button accordion or piano accordion? Also would it be possible to learn songs like 'La valse De Amelie' on a concertina?
That was great - thank you. You are a great concertina player. By the way, are you wearing a disguise?
This is beautiful. The tune is often played too fast. I am playing Matt Seatle's arrangement (for two fiddles I guess) with another Engilsh concertina player and the struggle is to hold the speed back.
Well done, Jeff!
This sounds very Irish for a German tune.
Can't stop listening to this lovely tune. You're an inspiration! I'm slowly trying to play this on my anglo concertina. It might not even be possible on my machine, but I'll keep trying.
glad to see you back again! loved this song! thanks for posting.
This was one of the main clips that convinced me to get an Elise concertina, in the Hayden Duet fingering system. A couple years later I started playing the Elise more seriously at house parties, and upgraded to a Morse Beaumont, and now am on the waitlist to get a really nice model from Wakker, such as shown here.
And I still really like playing Da Slockit Light on concertina!
6 years later, did you end up getting that Wakker?
Great tune! Nicely harmonized and smartly played
Trop beau. Merci.
really gorgeous tune.
A lovely tune played with finesse!
BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful!
Great playing! You have been holding the note D with your pinky on left hand and still able to play music with three fingers if I am right? It gives the excellent sound of bagpipe to the Concertina!
I cannot play like that on my Hayden Duet Concertina from The Button Box because there is not enough range on the left hand side but I will do my best.
Thank you Jeff!
yeah, that beats all the jello fighting I have just watched on your channel, haha. Beautifully played, you need someone with either a fiddle or a guitar to play this along with you, what say you to the idea?
Отлично!
awsome! i have waited a while for new songs!
Good to see you again! lovely tune.
Beautiful!
Danke . Schön gespielt !
