Yes! Please do a video about high end vs low end shampoos and conditioners! I really love your intended process of consulting with experts on this topic! Frosting on the cake would be any info you can glean from the experts on which specific ingredients may build up on silver hair to cause yellowing. (I prefer to prevent yellowing vs using blue/purple products). 🦋🧡🦋
But please also which particular chemicals/additives could possibly be irritants or cause allergic reactions. I've been trying to experiment with different products for the last few years as I developed a very itchy scalp with no other symptoms such as scaling or flaking. I have, so far, been unsuccessful in eliminating the irritation. I had only read that propylene glycol could be a possible irritant, but eliminating it has not brought relief.
Not scalp psoriasis as there is no scalp discoloration or flaking. Just a constant itch, which leads me to believe it's a chemical reaction. But thank you so much for the suggestion!
Little hack for Bobby pins get a tic tac container and put your Bobby pins in it and carry it in your purse and when your done using your pins put them back in the container I never lose them lol
I used lower end products for years, I'm talking V05 and Suave. I always got compliments from strangers about my beautiful hair. I've used very high end salon brands too.... no difference except in my bank account. Please do the video! ❤
Which Suave ones do you like best? I use their clarifying shampoo once a week but would like to try others. I cant use VO5 due to the mi they put in their products.
Sulfate is not good for your hair and both products have it. I use to use them as well and they stripped my hair so needed to pay a bit more for no sulfate products.
As an English kid in the early 80s a friend of my parents worked in a shampoo factory and said there was no difference between the expensive and cheap - just the packaging. I was educated that day so have never overly wasted money on high end products ❤
I watched a investigative program a few years ago about shampoos and make up. One of the companies...that I now buy all the time....had two runs. Same shampoo poured into fifty dollar bottles and three dollar bottles that went to Wal Mart. Same thing with eye lining pencils. The sales person, who was unaware she was being filmed was laughing about the thirty dollar pencil being the exact same pencil as the dollar fifty pencil they sold. Seems they have a great sense of humor with our wallets.
Curly girl here, thank you for this video! I don't think I'm alone when I say curly girls spend A LOT on hair care. We're told to take care of our curls with top of the line products. This is the first time your channel ended up in my list, just subscribed, looking forward to your in depth video comparing salon brands vs store brands. And thank you to your dad for helping out with this!!
Yes, I would love to see a video, with LabMuffin, on the subject. I am all about saving money. That being said, I have shopped for hair accessories at Dollar Tree for years. Most of their accessories are as good as, or better, than those sold in department stores. I also really like the Landmark Confections chocolate bars they sell. The bars are larger than average and have a great flavor, not waxy like your typical Hershey brand.
I love that you are doing a deep dive into the ingredients. My aunt is a hairdresser and runs a hair education company in the US. She knows so much about the science of hair and what ingredients and 'good' and 'bad'. Hair health comes from the scalp so one of the most important things to consider is getting a pH balanced shampoo and conditioner. Hardly any manufacturer advertise their products pH range but gettting products in the right range is super helpful. Thanka for your wonderful videos :-)
I have worked in salons as a nail tech and all of the hairstylists would get so upset when you mention using a non pro shampoo or conditioner. I love that you sought out science to figure out the truth. I look forward to future videos on your findings.
First off, sisters are the best! 💗 Wanted to share my very favorite Dollar Tree beauty find: Skin Nutrition Botanicals Age Defy Dark Circle and Puffiness Serum. Comes in a little red roller pack. They don't always have them, but they regularly get them, and whenever I see them, I snatch up a few to stock up. I put it on at night with other serums, and for $1.25? It actually works!
I bought an expensive two part eye cream. My rollerball from Dollar Tree works better and it lifts my saggy eyelids ( I am 67 and wore contact lens for many years…tugging on my lids ) and I swear by them. I too, if I see them I stock up. They are 5.99 I think on Amazon.
Loved, loved, loved your video today. I thought it was so interesting. There is another young lady on RUclips that is in the process of going to school to get her degree in ( can't pronounce or remember the name) for a person that specializes in everything about hair. Her name is Abbey Yung. She has done just what you are doing, taken high price or luxury shampoo and compared to drugstore and dollar store. Look her up, she is so interesting. She also did it with some of the bond repair products, leave in conditioners . It's amazing what you find out. Can't wait to see more from you. I love it!!!
I am Seriously So So Excited that your doing this study on the high end hair products versus the affordable hair products 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Absolutely Fascinating and something I’ve Always been so extra curious about! Great Job with All your research and sharing it with us ❤
Not sure if already mentioned, but abbey Yung delves into ingredients and such on hair care products. A 3 way live with you, abbey, and lab muffin would be amazing!
Yes, I am super interested in a video with information about high end versus budget hair products. Can you analyze the quality of Living Proof shampoo and conditioner?
I absolutely love LabMuffin so you can get so much great info from her as well. I would also love a video on how to protect vivid color hair to have color last longer. I’m so happy Nikki recommended you.
Hi Gabi I am a hairstylist and for years told my clients that there is a big difference in store bought and high end But now that I am mostly retired and can not buy my Living Proof shampoo and condition for half price I started picking up…Treseme ..used to be a salon shampoo, developed dermatitis in my scalp and bought cheap dandruff shampoo, etc etc but never picked up a Dollar Tree shampoo and conditioner. I know one time I picked up a deodorant there and the smell was horrific. My husband and I worked for a company once doing hair shows and talking about the products. When we went to the factory they were making those products plus products for Kmart. You tell us Gabi and thanks in advance to your dad. My problem with Dollar Tree is I in up spending so much money. There Hallmark cards are a good reason to go there too. Thanks Gabi. Your hair is always so beautiful and shiny. ❤❤❤
*Very* excited for you to continue your research into the science behind haircare. Decades ago, I accepted what I was taught in cosmetology school, as you mentioned. I'm interested in the updated truth. Also, looking forward to hearing from your father. Thanks for doing this, Gabi!!! 🥰
Thank you for doing this and tell Dad we said thank you for devoting his time and energy and giving his professional help! Thanks Dad!! Look forward to what you guys will discover!! TRUTH 💯💯💯
Just now getting to see this, AWESOME stuff. I definitely can't wait to hear more about high end vs low end products. I've paid ridiculous money in my day and I'm not sure a lot of it was worth it. So happy your dad was on board to help out with this! ❤
Remember, you can always add fancy pure oils to your routine if they work on you, and combine them with more basic products. I still havent found dollar tree S&C that works well when my hair is very short & curly, but now that it's getting longer & more wavy than curly, I'm having great luck with conditioners that smooth & replace my Shea Moisture yogurt conditioner. I also use straight coconut, jojoba & argan oils, along with others, in my hair routine, so i dont bother looking for fancy natural ingredients in products anymore. Cheaper & I get more oils in my hair this way. Plus it feels luxurious, even when i use a kitchen oil!
Thank you for doing a deep dive into the shampoo/ conditioner world. I have always been intrigued to know if there is any real difference to justify the cost. Can’t wait until your next video. This made me sub!!
Yes. Please. More comparison between expensive and budget hair care products. Through my own "experimentation" I have discovered that drugstore and budget makeup and hair products seem to have greatly improved over the past few years. I don't mind spending more if I am getting better value. However, sometimes, especially with hair products, it ends up going down the drain when I wash my hair. So there better be a noticeable difference if I'm going to spend more.
That is a TERRIFIC idea!!! I am all for it. Please educate us. I feel like I've been a lost sheep for years. Thank you and your dad for this great work, and I can't wait for the results!💖
I am SO impressed by the research you did on the shampoo/conditioner! Seriously, I have considered doing the same thing, but I lack the background knowledge to draw useful conclusions. I am always pleased when someone I respect does a deep dive in order to be better informed. Yes please - I would love to watch a video with you and your dad!
Those satin bonnets and pillowcase? HAVE HELPED me so much. I dyed and bleached my hair almost 30.years. it started breaking and i started taking care of it..(deep condition shea butter and castor oil/etc masks ) and i switched to satin..and noticed a big difference in the amount of hair fall...
Yes, yes and yes please! Would love to see more on the topic of high end vs budget friendly hair care. Great video Gabi and thank you for your frankness.
can't wait for the the haircare comparison video Please include some cruelty free brands especially the cheaper ones as i only buy cruelty free brands😻 as should we all💕
I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. Would love to learn if I’m wasting my money! If you could incorporate some sort of comparison between that and cheaper products, I would LOVE that! Thanks for posting!!
@rooboo96...if I could, I would post before and after pictures.. It really works, and it doesn't make your hair sticky. You actually can't feel anything at all, but after a month, you'll see a big difference.
Yes, Gabi...please get her on your livestream! And I also use the purple shampoos for gray hair, but always try to purchase those w/o the parabens, etc. So, I'd love to hear about the 'science' on these, as well. Thank you for this video...eye-opening * so very helpful!
Please do the hair video!! I NEED it! Look, I have a list of mostly advised Redken products and if I bought them all simultaneously, for what my hair is supposed to need to repair, I'd be spending $300 (at least!) I need some dupes, dangit!
Looking forward to the 20 vs 20 video! I found the dandruff shampoo at Dollar Tree had .3 of the active ingredient, while Head n Shoulders has 1.0 of the active. I think the DT products may have less amounts of the important ingredients. Thanks for you and your dad's research on this stuff!❤
Yes I found this true with some DT skin products too. I guess it may not always be a bad thing depending on your specific hair or skin needs but then also sometimes makes the product ineffective in some cases.
Gabi, I'm super excited that you're doing a scientific consumer analysis/comparison on the DT Pro Silk shampoo vs. the high end brands. Absolutely have Lab muffin on your live stream podcast. Coincidentally, my dad was a university professor of dentistry with a PhD as well. This is exciting! 🌺❤️
Another habit to get into is read where an item is produced. Most makeup and hair products are produced in China or other countries. So I shop at the Dollar a tree for dupe products. I agree about marketing for high end products. Thank you for your research on this.
I love Michele from Lab Muffin!! you 10000% should have her. i’ve learned a lot from her about marketing vs true science. she is honest, to the point, and puts science before anything
Yes!!!!!! Can't wait to learn more about this because you're SO RIGHT!! Natural and/or organic ingredients do not guarantee great results... AND sometimes plant derived ingredients can cause more sensitivity.
Loved your video today Gabi, I think that's a great idea to investigate the different shampoos/conditioners, also how about talking about shampoos that are great for volume, shine etc. I would love to know the best shampoos to thicken my hair because it's so fine. You look beautiful as ever Gabi, keep up these great videos.
I have a friend that lives in Indiana who has a friend that attended Perdu. He told me she did a study to find which shampoos were most gentle to the environment and the human body. He told me the winner was was Suave. I am not sure if this is a published study but I found the results particularly interesting!
I was reading an article a few years back about clean makeup (no harmful ingredients). End result- some of the best/cleanest were cheaper brands. Thats good because often young girls starting to experiment with makeup buy these less expensive products. They have all their child bearing years and hopefully a long life ahead.
I love Lab Muffin! I've been a subscriber of hers for a couple of years now. She's so knowledgeable about chemicals and ingredients. Her sunscreen info is the best.
Hi Gabi, please make a how to video for us fine haired girls specifically on how to avoid bed head ruining our hairstyle when going several days between washes. (How to protect hair while sleeping) AND, tips on how to camouflage or deal with a terribly strong back/ crown of head cowlick 😮
I use a mix of high and medium (drug store) and low end (dollar tree) hair products and honestly.... find little difference. My hair does BEST when I change it up every couple of weeks between them all. I would LOVE to see a video done with you and your dad on them. And I LOVE Lab Muffin! I've watched her for a LONG time! (ps: i love the hair accessories from $ tree!)
I always have a bottle of either Suave or VO5 from dollar tree in my shower that I rotate in between using my high end shampoo/conditioner. I feel like it gives my hair a good deep clean but I still need the others for strengthening, moisturizing, and building. I’ve never been able to do without the combo.
Hi Gabi. This is so fascinating and I can't wait for the video with your dad and hopefully one with Lab Muffin Beauty Science. My husband is a scientist too (specialising in analytical chemistry) and he uses drugstore shampoo and I use high-end😊. He is always trying to convince me to just try his shampoo 😂 and says now he wants to do a comparison too. He is also quite excited to see your findings of your experiment 😁. Thank you for all your hard work.
Yes! Lab Muffin is one of my favorites. If Dollar type stores carried fragrance free hair care, I'd be there. Thankfully, not everyone has to be fragrance free. On the plus side, it limits impulse buying for me. Lol
I'm so interested as to what you will find doing the comparison video! I know from working in the beauty industry that sometimes you do get what you pay for but not always. Now on my way to Dollar Tree to get some hair accessories😂😂😂
For me, quality of skin and makeup ingredients trumps cost. What is the quality when it costs $1.25? Yes bring on the science! Thank u dad! I love Lab Muffin!
But the real question is what are the DIFFERENCES in the ingredients? If two bottles have identical ingredients and one is $40 and one is $2, is that marketing or quality? 🤔
Use to work for a manufacturer of hair care products and all ingredient decks were the same for private label and high end products. Only difference was the fragrance or a few organic ingredients. Loved this video!
Yes, I would like to hear more of your research on the different hair shampoo and conditioner products. I would also like to know if they are cruelty free. Thank you, I enjoyed all the knowledge and research shared in this video.
Thank you, Gabi!! I so appreciate your zeal in digging deep into our beauty products- the high-dollar & the cheap, with genuine concern and open mindedness. Perhaps we have been a bit misinformed by what we have been encouraged to consider trash or treasure. Please thank your scientist Dad for his help! I enjoy your videos and would love to see a follow up to this!
I’m extremely interested to know more about the differences in high end hair products vs affordable, and how the ingredients actually work. Especially with repairing and volumizing formulas. We’ve all learned what ingredients to look for in skin care products but there’s no one talking about hair product ingredients and which ones work and which don’t. There’s an audience for this content, you’re onto something here!
Yes! I definitely want you to make a video or series about the science behind hair care especially b/c if I can save some money here and there I’d love it.
First of all , thank you for taking the time to take it further and get a scientific perspective about the products! When selecting your 20 products can you select 3 ethnic hair shampoo/conditioners as well? High end, affordable, and cheap as well .
Would love to see a video comparing the higher and lower end shampoos and conditioners! I don't wash my hair every day either. I've got falling thin hair.
You are speaking my love language! Can't wait to see and learn about your research! Us viewer's are so lucky to have an advocate like you and your dad!! So cool!
Yesss love the idea of the shampoo comparison video! As a hairstylist I agree that we’re taught high end is THE way to go. I’ve always wondered and wanted to know more about what the truth is! Thank you for doing this research, can’t wait 😁
I’ve been using Suave shampoos and conditioners for several years. I always get compliments on my hair. Hair dressers ask what I use . I definitely think that you can find great products for under $5. The high end products are how salons make money.
My mom always bought salon products at the salon, they had convinced her the same way. She had some reactions so they had her try another. Every time I visit she would let go of bags of them. I went online found a hypoallergenic one for babies and her issues stopped after a couple weeks. We let her dermatologist check it had healed. We then tried Fructis Pure Clean and she has never gone back. She got over it, she realizes she spent thousands never questioning her salon or discussing it with her dermatologist. EWG database has details to compare products. DT has started carrying curly girl formulas. I've used the conditioner meant for black hair as a mask on my non black hair-that was recommended by a nurse.
Great video, keep ‘em coming! Honestly I purchase my hair products based on (1) how they work with my hair & (2) the fragrance. My nose is so sensitive, I can’t have product around my face that upsets my nose all day!
Thank you for watching everyone!

Yes, please shampoo comparisons. Can you include Costco Kirkland moisture shampoo?
Thanks Gabi for the informative video. Yes, please compare high vs low end products. I would love to see the comparison and Lab Muffins opinion too.
I messaged Lab Muffin to go on your show. 😁 I definitely want to hear more about the high and low end difference with shampoos/conditioners 👍🏽😊
Another habit to get into is read where an item is produced. Most makeup and hair products are produced in China or other countries. So I shop at the Dollar a tree for dupe products. I agree about marketing for high end products. Thank you for your research on this.
I found the Pro silk salt spray and I love it. I don’t use many products in my hair but I like to add texture to my long wavy hair.
I love Michele from Lab Muffin!! you 10000% should have her. i’ve learned a lot from her about marketing vs true science. she is honest, to the point, and puts science before anything
Love your video today. I've always wondered if there truly is a difference between high end products and the "cheap" dupes.
I can't wait to see your results on the high end hair care and low end. So interesting!
Yes, I’m interested in this. My mom was a chemist. I grew up washing my haur with dish soap and conditioning with Downy, and I had long, thick hair.
I love Lab Muffin! I've been a subscriber of hers for a couple of years now. She's so knowledgeable about chemicals and ingredients. Her sunscreen info is the best.
Would love a lab muffin collab about hair products!
Just wanted to say if you can sew you can make 3 nite bonnets out of one Dollar Tree pillowcase of course its not silk but still Great👍🏽
AAAAAAMAZING video!! Can’t wait to see your high/low end findings 💯
Lab muffin is brilliant, you need to have her on.
That list you and your Dad compiled with the ingredients would be a great thing to share if that is possible ❤.
Love the work you put into this!
Great idea!
YES! YES! YES! to a video with Lab Muffin x
Nothing like a real video addressing objective factors and helping us save some money! I LOVE this!
Yes! Lab Muffin is one of my favorites. If Dollar type stores carried fragrance free hair care, I'd be there. Thankfully, not everyone has to be fragrance free. On the plus side, it limits impulse buying for me. Lol
Yeah fragrances are a deal breaker for me. I’m so sensitive. Sometimes they have fragrance free stuff, but not often.
They do!!! Dermasil has a line of ff shampoo and conditioner at dollar tree!!
Wish these companies would tone down or eliminate those unbearable fragrances
I LOVE your sister!!! She's my spirit animal! CAMERA! ACTION!!!!
I'm so interested as to what you will find doing the comparison video! I know from working in the beauty industry that sometimes you do get what you pay for but not always. Now on my way to Dollar Tree to get some hair accessories😂😂😂
Elle join us live at 6PM-7PM EST on Wednesday. Lab Muffin Beauty Science will be on the channel and we will be asking her questions!
Ahhhh. We love lab muffin. She’s great for setting the record straight. ❤ Been following her for years. We want her on your channel. Yay. 🎉
Would love to see comparisons on shampoos for dyed hair if there’s any difference
Your sister is hilarious 😂😅
She’s so frickin cute. I love her so much!
@@GlamGirlGabi you are both frickin cute 👍💖
om'gosh YES ABSOLUTELY to the high-end vs low-end shampoo/conditioner comparison.
Yes!!!! We need this video! Thanks to you and your father for taking on this project that could help us all be more informed❤
I love the cheap VO5 shampoo. It works great on my fine blonde hair
Thank you for digging deep into the products! I would really like any information you have as I can make better judgment in making purchases. 😊
Use to work for a manufacturer of hair care products and all ingredient decks were the same for private label and high end products. Only difference was the fragrance or a few organic ingredients. Loved this video!
Yes!! Please do an analysis with your dad on these products!! Looking forward to watching!! 😃❤️
Yes, I would love to see all the differences. I have used both over the years and really only seen very little difference other $$. Thanks!
Yes highly looking forward to that comprehensive comparison video!
You are speaking my love language! Can't wait to see and learn about your research! Us viewer's are so lucky to have an advocate like you and your dad!! So cool!
Standing ovation for Dad! Science and spreadsheets! I need that in my beauty collection!
Yesss love the idea of the shampoo comparison video! As a hairstylist I agree that we’re taught high end is THE way to go. I’ve always wondered and wanted to know more about what the truth is! Thank you for doing this research, can’t wait 😁
wow I appreciate the time you and your father took to make that spreadsheet! Such an eye-opener
I’ve been using Suave shampoos and conditioners for several years. I always get compliments on my hair. Hair dressers ask what I use . I definitely think that you can find great products for under $5. The high end products are how salons make money.
Absolutely I'd watch that hair care ingredients video! Thank you!
You’re an amazing lady wanting to know & help people! Thank you!!!!
Yes we love to see the difference in high end and low end, thank you
Great video, keep ‘em coming! Honestly I purchase my hair products based on (1) how they work with my hair & (2) the fragrance. My nose is so sensitive, I can’t have product around my face that upsets my nose all day!
You have a great dad. Your so blessed.
