I've had it happen enough times while fighting him on foot. When Sahelanthropus stays quiet off-screen for too long, it's bound to happen "any second." What I hate is when you fight him on Extreme, and you hit it at just the right angle that it kills you - that loud "SNAP" when Snake dies, it's always painful to hear through a good set of headphones.
Not really since Rex is more advanced and practical. One kick from rex would snap this thing in half. It can't even move without a psychic child controlling it. The cockpit can only fit a child. Its armor is laughable and its arms are deadweight. In every single right it represents how much of a hack huey was. The thing is a glorified mantle piece that skull face used to incite a possible nuclear war. But in the end it gets taken out way easier than rex was.
Sahelanthropus was a mere prototype, and not finished when you fight it. I haven't played anything other than mgsv and pw, (planning to play the others!) but from what other people are saying I presume Rex was much more advanced than Sally.

Nuke launch capable? Large target All terrain legs? Cannot take down a support chopper immediately. Can be defeated by a guy without his right eye. Can be taken down by walker gears. Could be destroyed with appropriate military force.
@Toño Rios he was a field medic with many years of experience. A field medic also just isn't a medic, they're highly trained to work in war zones and work under gunfire and stuff. He was also working with Big Boss personally. He was stated to be one of their strongest soldiers even before he became Venom. He was just some soldier, dude's one of the best in the world. And then after he became venom he got all of Big Boss' experience.
Techinicallly they just nerfed Sahelanthropus in the gameplay. Because in the cutscene its armor stopped tank shells ( and this is also mentioned in the cassettes) and its archea were fast enough to catch a fleeting jeep. In the gameplay not even its missiles are fast. Moreover its weapons destroyed an armored column in a minute and during the bossfight its corrosive weaponry has no effect on your "metal gear"
Those ATGMs are pretty bad. I once emptied my entire reserve (Top grade,12 missiles) onto the same enemy gunship (high tier red version gunship) and couldn't even bring it down.

Manned RAY takes this one handily. Sally gets hurt by a small-caliber minigun, so the Vulcans from RAY would easily tear it to pieces. Bringing in the hydro cutter would just be unfair. It's even possible that RAY and its exotic organic-like composition might even have some degree of immunity to the metallic archaea. But even if not, I could see RAY just easily hopping away from the affected area.

And the first could not even take 30 small missiles before getting destroyed by two guys. So 5 people with rocket launchers could annihilate Rex in again 2 minutes. On the other hand Sahelanthropus destroyed multiple mechanized units wothout any problem Snake and Diamond Dogs beat Psycho Mantis and not directly Sahelanthropus. In particular Big Boss defeated him because he and the floating boy shared a special psychic bond. Venom's awakening was characterized by strong anger, which was perceived by Tretij Rebenok. This emotion worked as a spark which unlocked his true potential None of this does make sense. But from what we see in games maybe only Peace Walker could take on Sahelanthropus, if it doesn't use metallic archea
If nothing else, this game needed more Metal Gears..... :3 Btw, is it just me.... or does Miller's voice actor sound a little..... too manly for his role in the Japanese version? :3
