  • You can get to Mount Fuji / Kawaguchiko from Tokyo by train in less than 2 hours.
    - In Tokyo, go to Shinjuku JR station (it's the Japan Railway station, not subway station)
    - From Shinjuku station, get on track #10
    - The name of the train is Fuji Excursion Limited Express.
    - Destination: Mount Fuji station or Kawaguchiko station (if you want to climb Mt Fuji, get off at Mt Fuji station. if you just want to have a view of Mt Fuji and chill, get off at Kawaguchiko terminal.)
    - Time: less than 2 hours
    **** TOKYO TO MT FUJI BY TRAIN / TOKYO TO KAWAGUCHIKO BY TRAIN ****
    Is this train included in your JR Pass?
    -Yes, but only partial, you will need to purchase additional ticket.
    Is Lake Kawaguchi far from the station?
    - It's only few minutes by bus or taxi, but not really walking distance.
    Is it expensive to take a taxi to the lake?
    - Should be about JPY1,000 or less (about USD10).
    Are there convenient stores at the station?
    - No. There's a small souvenir/coffee shop inside the station. For the convenient stores, you have to go outside the station, just right the corner, less than 5 minutes walk.
    Check out details of the train on its website here: www.jreast.co....
    You can also go to Kawaguchiko by bus. The bus station is also at Shinjuku. It is connected to Shinjuku JR train station.

    With a JR pass you can reserve for this train using the JR East reservation system, choose Shinjuku->Otsuki and then make sure to select Fuji Excursion (train leaves 3-4 times per day in the morning). After Otsuki station you can keep your seat and pay the conductor for the Fujikyuu part of the trip (~1770¥) which is not included in the pass.

    When fuji excursion sold out, and you are holding jr pass, then you can choose azusa 3 from shinjuku to otsuki at 7.30 am (shinjuku - matsumoto 4-12 cars), azusa 3 and FE is the same train. The different just FE 1-3 cars, azusa 4-12 cars. So when the train arrived at otsuki station, you just need to change the cars to 1-3 cars. At otsuki station the train will separate 1-3 cars to kawaguchiko and 4-12 cars to matsumoto. If you choose train not the same time with fuji excursion, then you must change the platform for transit to the local train to kawaguchiko which is its spend about 1 hour

    This is awesome to have a clear idea what to expect. I intend to do this day trip by myself. Got a few questions , please help me out. Once I get to Kawaguchiko, is it a walkable place? I mean can I get to the lake, the rope by walking? or I need to get the bus? Is it worthy to pass for the sighseeing bus? You showed the journey on the Fuji Excusion , is this the only train that will take me to Kawaguchiko? or is there another one cheaper? Appreciate your help. Greetings from CR- Toby

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Месяц назад +1

      Hi, once you get to Kawaguchiko station, it's not a walkable distance to the lake. you can take a local bus to get to the lake, where all the ropeway and ferry are. I haven't tried the sightseeing bus so I can't tell. The Fuji Excursion is the only direct, no transfer train from Shinjuku station to Kawaguchiko Station. you can also take a bus from Shinjuku station to Kawaguchiko Station with no transfer too, it takes a little bit longer time, but it's a bit cheaper too.

    2) How much is the price for the bus at 10:34 and how do we buy the tickets?

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  11 месяцев назад +1

      hi,
      1) it depends on the train you take. if you take the same train that we did, Fuji Excursion, you don't need to transfer at Otsuki station. if you take the Kaiji or Azusa, you need to transfer at Otsuki station. actually the Fuji Excursion and Kaiji, Azusa are just different cars on the same train. Car 1-3: Fuji Excursion. Car 4-12: Kaiji, Azusa. if you can't get a ticket on the Fuji Excursion, just get a ticket on the Kaiji / Azusa instead and transfer at Otsuki station to the Fujikyu line to get to Kawaguchiko station.
      2) I'm not sure about the bus price, it depends on your distance. you can use the Suica card (or any other ic card) for this bus. if not, you can pay by cash on the bus.

      if you have a JR pass, you need to reserve a seat on the Fuji Excursion from Shinjuku to Otsuki, and pay for the part of Otsuki to Kawaguchiko, before your trip. better have this done at a ticket counter instead of a machine.

      hi, no need to exit the station. when you arrive at Shinjuku, you need to buy an addition ticket called the express ticket for this Fuji Excursion train. the ticket is called Tokyu-ken in Japanese (特急券). and you can buy it at the ticket vending machine on the same platform, #9 and #10 (under one of the escalator). if it's hard to find there, check out the same machines close to South Exit or New South Exit.

      "I'm assuming I have to get a separate ticket

    Thank you for putting together this video. I'm just wondering a couple things.
    1) You said to make sure to go to the Shinjuku JR Station and not the subway for boarding the Fuji Express. We are staying in Ginza and the way I think it works for us, is that we will board at Tokyo Station (subway) and take it to Shinjuku Station (Subway). Then at Shinjuku Station (Subway), we will walk to the Shinjuku JR Station (which I'm guessing is 5 minutes or so and in the same building).
    2) I'm assuming I will need to buy the Fuji Express ticket in advance, so is there a website that I can do this at prior to coming to Japan ?
    Thank you so much 😊😊😊

    • @ONEGOODDREAM
      @ONEGOODDREAM  Год назад +2

      Thank you for watching!
      1) if you can walk to Tokyo JR station, it'll be more convenient for you. then you can take the JR Chuo Line (JC) to Shinjuku, switch to the Fuji Excursion, which is in the same building. if you take the subway to Shinjuku then you need to walk from Shinjuku subway station to Shinjuku JR station, which is not in the same building at all.
      2) i'm not aware of a website that you can buy this ticket online though. i guess you have to come and buy it here.
      hope this helps. cheers.
