  • @enthused_panda

    I refute this claim. I believe he is a trascendental rather than a sociopath which is why feelings come off as non existent in the eyes of the audience and similar to that of a true sociopath. Keep in mind that a sociopath also expresses antisocial feelings towards others which are definitely present in the villains you mentioned, however, this does not apply to Gojo as he is shown to be social time and time throughout the show. Of course this is all just theory so far.

    • @bibbobella
      @bibbobella 3 года назад +86

      I agree.
      It is true that a sociopath can make bonds with others but they are few and far between. Gojo have made bonds with several people and very clearly cares deeply about the people he believes to be his allies. You could say it is simply because they are an asset to him but I don't believe that is all there is to it.
      I think Gojo knows his greatest weakness is the fact he is so powerful.
      That might sound weird but he himself have stated "it is ironic isnt it? when granted everything you can't do anything" and though ofcourse this is pointed towards the person he is fighting against that that time it could very easily be him pointing it towards himself.
      So far we have seen Gojo fail several times throughout the series and every time he fails it seems to be at least partly because he can't/wont trust someone else.
      He wants to save people and he wants to change the world he lives in but he can't do that alone.
      He might have some aspects of sociopathy...I mean who wouldnt when raised in a world where everyone around you could die the next day...but he makes connections with people, he grows them, he gets exstremely angry when his student was killed to the point of actually wanting revenge.
      I think he is simply hiding his emotions like a sorcerer should and only using it when nessesary. He doesn't berate or find the fact the MC want to help people bad...if anything that is an aspect he actually admires in him. He seems to want to change the world for the better and that isn't usually something a sociopath would do since it is actually a really selfess act.

    • @acetofresh1
      @acetofresh1 3 года назад +20

      He has strongly anti social behavior, but he definitely has not been written totally as a sociopath, definitely too jolly , and he definitely has passion -- while remaining an aloof character. He isn’t stoic in the Megumi, Nanami sense and remmeber he had genuine remorse with Getou’s treachery , and him not obliterating him ( loosely implied he let him die on his own ) shows his feelings for him. He also seems to have genuine care for Megumi despite the unfavorable circumstances of their meeting ( I be knows to Megumi). However Broken’s hypothesis is very well structured and profound and does innately have a solid understanding of Megumi’s character.

    gojo's a "sociopath"? "not a human being"? i disagree with pretty much everything you said in this video. gojo cares deeply about his students and fights tooth and nail for them to be able to be able to live out their childhoods, especially yuuji and yuuta (whom he saved from execution).
    his falling out, or whatever you want to call it, with getou, fundamentally changed his perspective on jujutsu sorcery and the jujutsu world overall, and made him question his strength. the only reason kenjaku was able to seal him in the prison realm was because of the deep bond him and getou shared. he fights so hard to make sure that what happened to him and getou in their teenage years doesn't happen to the new generation of sorcerers.
    since gojo was born with the six eyes he was most likely alienated from most people around him as he was probably told his entire life that he was "the strongest" and that fate rested on his shoulders. could any child grow up to be completely normal that way? just because he's goofy and a little annoying doesn't mean he has "complete disregard for other people".
    how could you possibly say he has no empathy and doesn't care about people? this is honestly mind-blowing to me. gojo is no monster; at the end of the day he's just a man who has been put on a pedestal by people for a long time, and has to bear the crushing weight of being "the strongest" on his shoulders. all by himself.

    • @Momo-vz4tb
      @Momo-vz4tb 2 года назад +5

      I completely agree with you. I don't understand how people could think that Gojo doesn't have emotions and is apathetic about everything. He is one of the most caring characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. He has basically been obligated to carry the whole burden of the jujutsu society on his shoulders since birth because of his powers. He has been dehumanized and treated as a weapon for most of his life, but he still chose to care about the sorcerers around him and even became a teacher to change the jujutsu society for the better. I don't get why people would still consider him as a monster even after reading about his past. Gojo's a human being like anyone else, and by saying that he's not a human being and instead a monster, you're basically the same as all the people who consider him only as a terrifying weapon.
      You honestly deserve more likes. I can't stand it when people consider Gojo as an uncaring, sociopathic monster. He deserves way better.

    The huge difference is he has selective empathy. He takes into consideration more than what he can gain in a situation. Being born so much better than everyone will give you narcissistic traits, however having selective empathy and being able to accept death are usually traits of people with a monk like disposition. Him saying "you have to be a sociopath"I makes it sound like he is spreading something he learned the hard way. Sociopathy specifically requires you to have had a behavioral disorder as a child. He seems a lot more like it is trauma that taught him to disassociate in times of high stress to maintain control. Not to mention everything he is teaches is all mindfulness techniques just as a monk would. The constant visualizing and breathing. What he is doing is maintaining equanimity. The thing that makes Gojo a monster is the same thing people say makes Gon the "greatest shonen mc of all time" His humanity and his insanity. He does not care for right or wrong, simply for what he wants, and in that way he is like Sukuna. Gojo is quite literally the strongest. So in the Jujutsu Kaisen world there exists only two things: What pleases Gojo, and what doesn't. And Gojo doesn't let things that displease him happen (Ignore the sealing :)) His inability to care for anything but what he sees fit is what makes him a true monster. Gojo doesn't exist with any goals like Sukuna does. He just. Exists. Nothing benefits him and nothing disadvantages him. Because as the strongest, he can have everything if he chooses.

    • @MicaW4VE

      Except he does care for right and wrong so he's nothing like gon who acts on impulse and wears his emotions on his sleeves.
      The only people who perceive gojo as a monster are sentient cursed spirits, rogue jujutsu sorcerer's that can no longer do whatever they want and the top brass sorcerers that can't keep him under control if he so ever decides to go awol. He still has his moral compass and he wants a bright future for the younger generation.
      Wanting the world to change for the better and having the absolute power to do so physically doesn't make one a monster, especially since it's stated gojo could destroy all civilization if he wanted to instead he trains the younger generation to be able to take hold of their own futures

    • @Suited_Nat
      @Suited_Nat 2 года назад +5

      @@MicaW4VE I agree. While he has aspects of sadistic tendencies (ex: in his fights w/ toji and in the shibuya arc) he is shown to have a moral compass. He also does care about people- because if he really didn’t care about the next generation: he could have killed the higher ups whenever he wanted to, and wouldn’t take the time to teach the next generation. I personally don’t think of Gojo as a sociopath, because while he may be very aloof and in control of his emotions, he has his own values. I feel like a lot of people think that Gojo doesn’t care for people around him, because of what he said about Amanai- but he was willing to fight the higher ups if Amanai wanted to live her own life. Another thing: If we are going to talk about mental disorders, it should be blatantly obvious that Gojo is traumatized. My personal theory as to why Gojo said he couldn’t feel anything for Amanai when she died was because of a response triggered by the death its self. People with PSTD often feel numb emotionally, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that gojo might have some form of PTSD from that specific experience.
      I want to clarify something about the Toji fight. Gojo was fighting Toji on a huge adrenaline high, as he lost massive amounts of blood, and most likely fried his brain while using the reversed technique.

      well so far in the manga, the only characters that have the "potential" to be as strong as him are Megumi, since Gojo said in the past there was a six eyes user and a Zenin shikigami user who fought till they both killed each other. The other is Yuta since they're both related and Yuta has more curse energy but can't use it efficiently like Gojo can, itadori doesn't really count because the power that he has to match or be stronger than Gojo is sukuna himself, not itadori

    I mean he is weird but any acceptance, regret or any sort of negative feeling can affect his function and he is aware of that. He is smart enough to notice that if he is gonna learn the lesson without emotions he is able to gain more without any damage and that is DAMN smart but it is not charismatic towards those who let the suffering affect them and want to be understood or picked up. Gojo is a little selfish but not too much he is just smarter and know what the cost of losing itself is. I think that it is his weakness?? I did not watch many episodes of this series so i can't tell wheter he might be sociopath or just extremly smart and full of his importance(which might be because he is telling all the time how powerful he is and proving when the time is right).

    And this is where everything falls apart. Because now we have an anomaly. Someone with an unshakable moral compass. Someone Gojo states will grow even more powerful than him. Meet our main character- Itadori Yuji. So far what I've seen of him, he won't end up like Gojo and the others. And rage may very well end up becoming the key factor which pushes him beyond special grade. Itadori Yuji is a living moral compass, having been raised that way, continuing to live that way- fighting for what he believes is right. I believe this is part of what Gojo wants to change in the jujutsu world. Show them a path to power without the need for insanity. The path of a true jujutsu sorcerer: to hate in order to protect love. To grow stronger with that hate. Negative emotions are needed for a true jujutsu sorcerer. Pleasantness is not negative. Although it may be a shortcut to special grade, it won't help from then on. The strongest negative emotion is an overwhelming hate. Without that, a jujutsu sorcerer will never reach their true power. But Itadori... his goal involves defeating those he hates. To guide people to their proper death, Itadori will fight any sort of monstrosity and win. Because of Sukuna, he will become the opposite of a sociopath. In a world like this, someone who can't understand hate and love will never match up to someone who can draw out those genuine feelings. Itadori, out of all the othee characters, is the only true moral compass. Without Itadori, the others around him are just like Gojo back before he learned the reversed cursed technique. They have morals and a certain amount of decency just like Gojo did, but like Gojo they would under normal circumstances eventually become sociopaths. Megumi, before Itadori, had never even thought of saving people. He asked about this to Maki, who replied was confused. As for Nobara, she could understand Itadori's pain after killing the brothers but couldn't feel it, while Itadori had apologized before landing the final blow as he genuinely felt bad. The people around Itadori are selfish, half decent people. But because of Itadori, even they are beginning to change. And as Itadori's circle of friends increases, so will his influence. As all of them rise together and become the new top of jujutsu sorcery, the old ideals will fade away. The idea of learning jujutsu for your own goals will disappear, and Jujutsu High will become a place for heroes to rise.

    I know this is a wild theory, but for a while I have been thinking: Everyone is eager to see the epic (final?) battle between Gojo and Sukuna and so am I but I imagine the roles being reversed. Like Sukuna is with the good guys and Gojo is the fucking psycho villain. Just think about this for a second: when it comes to sheer potential I think there is no better person to be the fucking unstoppable final villain of the series than Gojo. Because while Sukuna is a nasty fuck, stronger than probably anyone (even Gojo imo) and a total wild card (neither with the good or bad guys, he does his own thing) , he is still controlled and contained by Itadori at the end of the day. On the other hand... if something happens and Gojo comes unhinged, goes on a fucking rampage and decides he's just gonna murder the shit out of everybody there is no ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NO ONE who could contain that guy. If that happens everyone is fucked. UNLESS... Sukuna comes to the rescue. Everyone is so preoccupied with what Sukuna's plan is, why do those bad-bad higher-ups dislike our poor anime-daddy Gojo so much and shit like that that it all seems like the perfect red-herring should the creator decide to go that route. :D That would be epic!

    NO!?!?! you don’t understand gojos character at all.😭 and you don’t understand a thing about ASPD.
    1) ASPD does not mean that you’re emotionless + it’s also not synonymous with ‘monster.’
    2) Gojo is not emotionless.
    i blew a blood vessel watching this video. i could understand the argument that Gojo has ASPD to a degree… if you actually understood what ASPD was. Gojo is reckless + impulsive. he sometimes struggles with empathy. he struggles with having meaningful, healthy relationships (his only real one being geto). and he struggles with authority. THAT is some of what ASPD really entails.
    also it’s super fucking offensive that you used ASPD as ‘proof’ that Gojo is a ‘monster.’ ASPD is a real fucking disorder. it’s complex and there are real people who suffer with it. they can’t control the fact that they have that disorder and it can be really debilitating. this was so demeaning.
    and gojo is NOT emotionless!!😭 pay attention to his actions?!?! not only is gojo emotional, but it’s like his biggest weakness.
    proof:
    - multiple times he is shown to prioritise the safety of his students over taking down high level curses. (saving itadori instead of following jogo and hanami + staying to fight where the veil was rather then stopping mahito from stealing the fingers.)
    - puts himself on the line twice to avoid his students being executed. (yuji and yuta.)
    - he refrains from killing/capturing geto when he first leaves because he cares for him.
    - he prioritises the safety of civilians during the shibuya arc over his own safety and over killing the high level curses.
    - he gets angry on itadoris behalf after his death.
    - he cares a lot about fixing the jujustu world.
    - he cares about letting his students enjoy their youth. (jokes around with them + makes them play baseball instead of fighting.)
    - the literal main reason that he gets sealed is because he sees geto and it shocks him so much/brings back so many emotions and memories that it triggers the 1 minute rule for the prison realm.
    - he took in megumi (you could argue that it was just to train him into a sorcerer, but he left the final decision up to megumi so clearly he also cared abt his opinion.)
    - the very fact that he’s with the good guys + goes on missions to help ppl.
    - he worked so hard on his technique as a teen to get to where he is now. (and it clearly wasn’t out of ego bc his whole thing is that he WANTS to be surpassed by the next generation.)
    you know that scene where he steps on the ants but his infinity protects them and so the ants don’t die?? i think that symbolism sums him up pretty well rly.
    ALSO. you cannot use the toji fight as proof that gojo is emotionless… he was clearly delirious then. also the fact that he apologises to amanai shows that he cares for her. he was drugged up on adrenaline and completely out of his mind during that fight. obviously he was not processing any real emotions from her death. also it was a life or death situation??? he was NOT thinking clearly
    right after that fight we see him holding amanai’s corpse and he clearly feels shit. he wants to kill the star religion group and he feels numb - a pretty normal emotional reaction to such a sudden and traumatic death. he also asks for geto’s opinion because he doesn’t want to act rashly or without purpose at that moment. he doesn’t trust his own judgment at the time so he asks his best friend to make the right, moral decision. does that sound like a monster?? like someone who is emotionless???
    his demeanour is similar to mahito’s, sure. but his actions show that he cares about people. mahito really IS emotionless. it’s not just an act or a front like it is for gojo. gojo has kinda been forced into this role since he was born. he has to do cut throat shit all the time in his line of work so he has to grow thick skin. doesn’t mean he’s emotionless. he’s also forced to hide that dark power underneath. mahito is just like that because he’s a curse.
    he’s not a monster at all. he’s actually a very human character. he’s so distanced from others because of his strength and he’s also incredibly lonely and isolated. he can be ruthless, cutthroat, arrogant, rude and calculated at times. but to imply that he’s completely emotionless??? and a monster??? no.😭

  • @liz9284
    @liz9284 3 года назад

    I disagree that he’s a sociopath though. A sociopath would rage against being caught or imprisoned, and he would definitely not be capable of leaving his fate and the fate of the world in another persons hands. Also, about his lack of emotion when the girl died-soldiers are trained to take life professionally, efficiently and without emotion all the time, but that doesn’t mean they’re sociopaths. Don’t get me wrong, the family structures in JJK are the worst of dysfunction, as is the hierarchy in general, AND having ppl trying to kill you since you were born will definitely mess with your headspace, but again-he evolved, he changed after that encounter with Zenin, and he became a better human being in general. He also cares a great deal for his students while hating the injustice orchestrated by the higher-ups, which isn’t a crazy “unabomber” style hatred of those in power but one rooted in reality. Speaking of that, I think a sociopath would’ve just opted to kill the higher ups without any acknowledgement of the consequences it would have on what he’s trying to change, instead he acknowledges that change from the bottom up is the best course of action. He could’ve flexed on them, he could’ve taken them out to satisfy some sociopathic desire to prove how powerful he is, but he didn’t (yet, anyway). Idk, I agree with everything else-he’s definitely a monster so to speak. But Harry Potter couldn’t have defeated Voldemort without first being touched by the same darkness as his enemy (literally his soul), so it takes a monster to defeat a monster, but the fact that he knows when to let the monster out of its cage and when not to shows a discipline that sociopaths wouldn’t possess. Anyway, not trying to sound argumentative, I just got a little hung up on the sociopath label. Cuz I know Gojo really well and he’s just not that way at all, XD
