If it is within the ratings you should be alright, try one and feel it out before you give it your all in a cast... if not go lighter, either way you should be able to produce

@@catchingzzzsoutdoors1872 thanks....from what I have read the 6500 is minimum for the Canal..8000 size seems to be maybe better?What ounce is the ODM RATED?I may be there this year some time and trying to put together a budget friendly set up..Yours is a a good starting point .

What can you cast farther with, the spinfisher or slammer? Wondering if the long cast reels make that much of a difference
