Hearing Jim cuss made my day!
I've been following along with your rebuild and it's quite impressive that you did all that mostly on your own at home.
Thanks for sharing and as always keep building👍

I bought a Snap-on 3/4” Techangle specifically for doing ISX heads and boy it made the job so much easier. It was also nice having the built in angle gauge for when using air tools wasn’t an option. The final torque was always between 459 and 475 lb-ft.

I just went 500/515 lb-ft on all of them

    “That’s what she said.” :) :) :)
Dandy torque wrench, chief! That’s a nice one.
I’m having an OCD attack over the used head bolts but it’s your project and your money.
Nice job, guys. It looks good. Love that beautiful cylinder head. Guard that torque wrench with your life; that is a nice one; good solid “clicks” with that one. There is a difference.

I don't have air impact that will do 90° turn. Can the head bolts be turned 90° by hand safely?!

Wow, that was a lot of torquing! Makes torquing those small block Chevy heads look like nothing....

for real right? 75 foot pounds on small block chevy head seems like nothing now

the stretch gauge is only 3.20 to see if any bolts are stretched, you didnt lube the head of the bolt so your torque isnt true, i can only hope you blew and cleaned out the block bolt holes

Always run a tap though the head bolt engine block holes . A square drive socket will drive the tap efficiently using a 3/8 inch air racket . Lubricant tap .

The Arizona Homestead Project that’s not horrible. I bought a PEX expander tool for $400. Just basically a backwards pliers. When you need it, you need it.

Redefine Living That’s right, and if it weren’t for the tractor I don’t know how I could have done this.

whats size head are the bolts? 18mm or 24mm? i cant find the exact size online. Thanks.

Reusing the head stretch bolts? Folks, these bolts are one time use, do not reuse them. The head is disposable too, do not reuse and only use a new OEM Cummins head. Do not use one of the aftermarket heads or kits, as they are rarely ever close to Cummins OEM specs.
