Hello? Is this thing on? Did everybody miss me? Well whether you did or you didn't, I sure missed making videos for you all. Thanks everyone for the support and enjoy the video!
I can barely describe how good it is to see you man. And know that for better or worse, we're here for you. I don't really have much to add about the movie, except that if mice can learn to work together to solve problems and protect the innocent, maybe we humans should take some hints.
The Rescuers is not only one of my favorite Disney films, it's one of my favorite films, period. Where do I start? The music is soothing to listen to; The Journey, Someone's Waiting for You, and Tomorrow is Another Day are all beautiful. Bernard and Bianca work well off of each other and are one of my favorite Disney couples (along with Penny and Cody from The Rescuers Down Under). Speaking of Penny, she is great too; she's brave, she's spunky, and not only did she pry a diamond out of a skull and get it out of a cave WHILE THE TIDE WAS RISING, but she also hotwired a swampmobile! That's just badass!! And also.....I happen to think that Medusa is kinda sexy.
"I'm Joe the Disney Guy. I remember it so you don't have to." I hope things are going somewhat better, either way, we're here for you. Welcome back, Joe.
I'm sure the Rescue Aid Society would help you... and awesome review. And agree. It's a relaxing movie and I know I've reviewers say 'it's boring and too slow' but it's simple and fun and has a lot of likable characters so I find a simple adventure with heart. And no problem. Glad you feel better.👍😊
Glad to have you back, Joe. It's great to see you on my feed again. I admit The Rescuers is one of those Disney movies I didn't watch a ton as a kid for some reason, but I grew to appreciate more as I got older. I wouldn't say it's one of my old time favorites, but still fun and enjoyable to watch. I personally prefer the sequel, but there's still a few more films before we get to that. Hope you're able to make videos at a more steady pace. We'll be into the Renaissance before you know it!
I personally felt that Geraldine Paige's performance as Medusa was the single greatest vocal performance in a Walt Disney animated film. Then again, I'm a major Geraldine Paige fan, so I'm a bit partial.
I love The Rescuers! This is my number 1 favorite Disney film. I agree on a lot of what you just said about. It's fun, clever, just lovable and all that great stuff! The song Someone is Waiting for You is really inspiring to me and just super generous. Whenever that song is heard, you know that's when your teary eyed misery is about to turn upside down.
Oh yeah, your my favorite reviewer on RUclips! You do such a great job with editing, giving interesting info, not just saying a movie is good because of nostalgia(while still giving good points) and say pretty funny stuff too! I don't understand why your channel isn't more popular.
I want to thank you for your channel, it has helped reinvigorate my love for Disney and collecting their films again. Good luck with the channel. It certainly deserves far more subs.
Yaaay Joe you're back! I'm slowly catching up on you with the disney films (I'm also watching the live action films) Please don't stop regardless. I'd love for you to do every animated film then eventually pick a different topic whether it's live action or straight to dvd animated. Keep up the good work. :)
I literally screamed when I saw your video! Now my throats hurts a bit, since my allergies have been acting up :P I'm glad to hear that things are okay and I can't wait for your next review, which I think is gonna give you the feels! I heard that the The Dark Age was said to be quite a roller coaster, when it comes to their films.
I'm very happy to see you're back at it. You always do such a great job with these videos. I really appreciate the time you put into researching and gathering information and the way you put it together (along with your commentary). Keep it up!
I love The Rescuers but I had no idea it was so successful when it came out. I guess that was why it became the first Disney movie to get a sequel. Sadly both Rescuers movies seem to have faded into obscurity somewhat now.
Yes, I was surprised to find out it was successful too because most people I talk to about it, haven't heard of it, probably because out of all the other disney movies, it doesn't get advertised or talked about as much.
So sorry to hear about what you went through, Joe. That sucks. But it's great to have you back! I got so excited when I saw the thumbnail, and I loved the review. Loved the opening especially 😂 Kudos for making light of the situation. Not always an easy thing to do.
So glad your back at it Joey, also quick bit of trivia, one of my animation teachers, told my class one day that when she was in art school one of her professors was John Culhane, talk about weird huh
Oh my God!! You got robbed!!?? I had no idea!! I'm really and truly sorry that this happened to you :'( I'm really glad that you went through that horrible ordeal and that you're continuing to entertain us with your amazing reviews :) THANK YOU for staying so strong and continuing with your videos. I wish absolutely nothing but happiness for you! Take care :)
Glad to see you back again! Sorry things were so rough the last 9 months, but good to see you in good spirits. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your next video!
I wonder why the rescuers doesn't receive as much attention since it was so popular initially. You don't see the rescuers in video games or rides at Disneyland either
I’ve always liked The Rescuers. I had the first VHS tape as a kid and Miss Bianca was my favorite character because she was so sophisticated and classy yet she was intelligent and willing to help others. I also remember that I had a puzzle that was on a board that had the hillbillies from the movie and the car that was in their swamp and I think the dragonfly was near the center of the picture on the puzzle next to Ellie Mae and I remember their designs the most after Bernard and Miss Bianca.
Because Disney heroines tended to be teenage princesses, this was the first time I felt that Disney finally had a character who was relatable with the average child viewer. The Rescuers came to the theaters at the time that I was "Penny's" age and I related hard with the average little girl who only ever wanted to be loved and not used. It was encouraging to see her braveness through her fragility and her firm grasp on faith to see her through.
Little correction about the 1999 controversy. The image was actually placed in there during post production of the original theatrical release or at least the 1983 reissue (which nobody would’ve noticed) I noticed an episode of Disney Family Album from 1985 with the scene included and the image was there. The image was scrubbed in the 1992 VHS, and they simply forgot to do it for the 1999 VHS when they switched to a new master.
So glad you are back and well! I always learn so much with your videos :) I really love "The Rescuers", specially the characters Bernard and Bianca and I like the music too, despite understanding why some people don't.
So good to see you back Joe. I am always ecstatic when I see your videos in my subscription feed. Hmm, ecstatic, does that sound weird? Did I use that incorrectly? Eh, whatever, great video once again.
As a lifelong Disney fan, I immensely enjoy your videos. I just found your channel a few weeks ago and I enjoy how you combine research on the film's with your own brand of humor. Very entertaining. Sorry to hear that you were robbed!
I love the Rescuers. I think that one of it’s greatest strengths is it’s present day setting. I always think it’s nice when Disney makes movies set in the present-day!
@Joe The Disney Guy I can't wait until you review The Great Mouse Detective and The Rescuers Down Under both are great and underrated. With great actors as their villains Vincent Price as Ratigan and George C. Scott as Percival C. McLeach!
Many thanks for returning and I loved you review ^^ I personally limed the music - and my favorote song is actually "tomorrow is another day" - it's when they fly with orville to the swamps - not only the animation in this scene is beautiful but also the music - like in a Dream and magical ^^ but I also love the score by artie Butler - it would be nice if you could also mention the composer of the score in the reviews - it's as important as the songs if not even more :) nice to have you back
Music in the Rescuers is beautiful I always like the song tomorrow is another day, someone's waiting for you always made me cry, and the opening song made me feel lost and alone, I cried then too. 😭
I watched Disney's The Rescuers a few days ago and I consider that to be one of Disney's darker animated features. A lot of the film has a bleak colour palette with some unsettling and atmospheric backdrops that left me feeling glum a lot of the time. Seeing Penny trapped in an abandoned boat surrounded in the swamp with dull colours with a mad villain treating her like a slave is rather heartbreaking to watch. With that said, unlike The Black Cauldron, The Rescuers (in my opinion) is a dark film done right because the mean spirited atmosphere is well balanced with likeable and charming characters particularly Bernard and Bianca, two mice who are willing to help Penny get back to the orphanage. There's also some decent supporting characters who would support the main characters in Penny's rescue. The Rescuers reminds me of Don Bluth's movies and considering he was one of the animation directors of this film explains why it's similar in a lot of areas. A bleak kids film that's well balanced with very supportive and likeable characters and a happy ending which provides its younger audience with an uplifting reassurance that hope is possible, good people do exist, and you're not alone. Disney's The Rescuers isn't one of my favourite Disney films but it's definitely on my Top 15 because after watching it twice, I have so much respect for what it has to offer. A very refreshing Disney film that isn't a complete tryhard like The Black Cauldron but doesn't play things too safe like a lot of the typical romance or fairytale movies that Disney is well known for.
I am so glad that you are back and running again Joe and talking about what you love. I still stick with my theory that the criminals were so jealous of your amazing community here on youtube that they wanted a bit of the action for themselves. But ultimately, they will fail. But I have never watched 'The rescuers' funnily enough but after watching this video I watched the movie straight after and wow. I love it. It is a new favourite of mine. And also the songs are so lovely as well in it. xx
Great review yet again! Next up, Fox & The Hound! Anyway, I didn't think most of the songs were memorable either. I honestly felt like the background songs in say Tarzan worked better, you know? Anyway, great job again! Looking forward to whenever you get to Fox & The Hound.
I just recently watched two films featuring James Jordan/Fibber McGee "Looks who's laughing" and "Here we go again" Staring Edger Bergen and his dummies. I wondered my Mr.McGee sounded familiar. He was the Albatros Orville from the Rescuers.
I'll admit, this film is underrated. I've been ranking all 60 Disney animated classics, and there are so many ones I think are bad and terrible, but not this one. It might be weird cuz I know this one is often ranked as one of the weak Disney films, but I liked it. I liked the story of the small rodents trying to rescue a girl, and I liked how they were able to take on the 2 pet alligators. I know this film isn't very popular, but I liked it enough to put it in my good tier.
I'm happy you are back. your videos are so good. im glad you got through your dark times and are now back. Youre as good as ever. Very informative and love your work. :) it was worth the wait. Plus i loved the intro. I will confess as a kid i always forgot this movie even existed along with its sequel. As an adult though, i will admit i love the sequel more than the original. But, this one does have a special charm i like, like with the song someone's waiting for you. I also like Bernard and Bianca immensely as characters. This film has its good and bad things. But i like this film overall. Never read the original books its based from though.
I know that this is off topic. I was wondering though, does anyone else want Andreas Deja to come back as a main animator at Disney? He is one of my favorite disney animators, in my opinion he is the one that created the current design of Mickey Mouse and his film The Prince and the Pauper deserves a lot more praise and reginiton!
LordCrump Fan Oh yes, I'd love that. Though recently he published a book on the nine old men and is somewhat active on social media, so he's not truly gone.
Deja really is one of a kind. His villains among the most recognizable in the Renaissance Era, and he also know to handle heroes too (Hercules and Lilo). I'm pretty sure that he's not coming back because he's disgruntled with the CGI elitism rampant at Disney these days, so he's buying his time until there's a resurgence of hand-drawn animation again.....Hopefully. That, and he's working on his own indipendent animated movie, Mushka.
Full Voice Actor List Michelle Stacy: Penny - Bob Newhart: Bernard - Eva Gabor: Miss Bianca - Jim Jordan: Orville the Albatros - Geraldine Page: Madame Medusa - Joe Flynn: Mr. Snoops - Jimmy McDonald: Evinrude the Dragonfly - Candy Candido: Brutus and Nero the Alligators - Pat Buttram: Luke - Jeanette Nolan: Ellie Mae - Bernard Fox: The Chairman - John McIntire: Rufus the Cat - Larry Clemmons: Gramps the Turtle - John Fiedler: Deacon Owl - Dub Taylor: Digger the Mole - George Lindsay: Deadeye the Fishing Rabbit - Bill McMillan: The Television Announcer - Peter Cullen: Multiple Males - Frank Welker: Multiple Males - Linda Gary: Multiple Females - Casey Kasem: Multiple Males
I don't care what the "cool" youtube critics have to say about the film, I fucking ADORE The Rescuers. When I was very young in the mid 80s, my mother had bootleg VHS tapes of several Disney films that wouldn't be officially released until the 90s and The Rescuers was one of them. Consequently, it was among the very first movies I ever saw as a kid and it absolutely blew my mind. To this day, it's still one of my all time favorite Disney films. I am a huge, HUGE Disney nerd and I think it's fair to say that if I hadn't seen The Rescuers at the young age I did, that might not have happened. Thanks, Mom. Love ya!
I hate to hear about everything that's been going wrong for you. I absolutely love this series and I cannot wait for more and more! You do a great job!
Well thank you! Yeah, 2017 has been a struggle of the year (even more shenanigans this past week!) but we're muscling through. First half of the year is the hardest right?
Hi Joe! I hope things are going better for you right now:) Also because you still have to get through some stuff, do you have a guess about when we should kind of expect the next Disney Guy review?
It's a cute film and I have a feeling I like it more then most, but I have agree that the squeal is just better over all, as the original film's pacing has a very stop and stutter feel to it, with the cave scene being the superior climax to the actual climax. That said Bernard and Bianca are easily my favorite Disney couple in either film. I'm glad to see you back and doing better and I can't wait to see more.
I like the Rescuers Down Under much better than the First Rescuers, but that does not mean I dislike the First Rescuers entirely. First of all, I do see the first Rescuers as a good introduction to Bernard and Bianca. If anyone watches this Rescuers, at least they can have some background for how Bernard and Bianca became the agents they are in down under. Not to mention that Penny is somewhat cute. I also like the knowledge that Don Bluth got his start from this Disney Movie. I wish you had mentioned how Don Bluth would soon create his own animated movies, because his first three movies happen to have made my Top Ten Favorite Non-Disney Animated Movie List (The Secret of NIMH at #6, An American Tail at #2, and The Land Before Time at #1). My only problem with the first Rescuers is specific comparisons to Down Under. When the two are compared, The Rescuers ends up looking boring compared to Down Under.
hey this is Alex I'm glad that you're back it's been a long time I understand he had some issues in the past hopefully everything is good if there's any help that we could do please let us know you're awesome super talented and I love your passion for Disney but either way would you be willing to do any Once Upon a Time reactions or Recaps or talk about Once Upon a Time It's Disney and I know you watch it right ALOHA
Intresting history behind this movie. I am curious about the books now. Maybe I can find them. It trully is amazing this out of all the Disney movies got a sequel in theatre as well.
Hello? Is this thing on? Did everybody miss me? Well whether you did or you didn't, I sure missed making videos for you all. Thanks everyone for the support and enjoy the video!
Joe The Disney Guy we will always be there for you. I will always look up to you as a Disney Individual 😉😉😊😊☺☺
Joe The Disney Guy Welcome back, my friend.
Great to see ya back again

Me too

I'm delighted you're back up and running Joe, and what a triumphant return this video was! Welcome back and thanks for the always brilliant content!
You literally just made a terribly long week so much better!! Thanks so much Joe; I'm glad you're back!

I want to thank you for your channel, it has helped reinvigorate my love for Disney and collecting their films again. Good luck with the channel. It certainly deserves far more subs.
Well thank you, I appreciate it! And it's always nice to hear that this channel is inspiring others, makes it all worth it

Loved the opening especially 😂 Kudos for making light of the situation. Not always an easy thing to do.
So glad your back at it Joey, also quick bit of trivia, one of my animation teachers, told my class one day that when she was in art school one of her professors was John Culhane, talk about weird huh
Must have been quite a good class then!
So glad to see you back Joe, more than the new video it's good to see that you're in better spirits!
Welcome back, Joe. It's been over a year since the last review and I'm missing those videos.
Hey, give me a little credit, the last one was in May! haha
Yeah, I was looking at Robin Hood when I should look at The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh.
Oops.
Oh my God!! You got robbed!!?? I had no idea!! I'm really and truly sorry that this happened to you :'(
I'm really glad that you went through that horrible ordeal and that you're continuing to entertain us with your amazing reviews :) THANK YOU for staying so strong and continuing with your videos. I wish absolutely nothing but happiness for you!
Take care :)
My favorite Disney movie. Molly Shannon as Medusa and Josh Gad as Snoops in a live-action adaptation!!
oh
So happy to see a new video from you and I hope things are starting to get better for you after a pretty hard few months!
Glad to see you back again! Sorry things were so rough the last 9 months, but good to see you in good spirits. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your next video!

Joe, you're BACK!!! So glad ~ your videos are the perfect blend of documentary + review
:D
Welcome back Joe! Your videos are awesome. Here's to more fun informative information on one of my favorite things!
Little correction about the 1999 controversy. Hope things will calm down and give you an easier time going forward.
Glad to see you back! Anytime I watch an old Disney movie now, I watch your review before watching the movie. Keep up the good work!

Madame Medusa is a terrifying villain and extremely realistic.
Music in the Rescuers is beautiful I always like the song tomorrow is another day, someone's waiting for you always made me cry, and the opening song made me feel lost and alone, I cried then too. 😭

Great video! Glad to see you back!
Nice intro XD other than that, great review as usual & I'm glad you're back and things are starting to normalize or get better for you :)
I'm gonna be leaving for the airport soon, so this video is perfect to put me in a good mood! Welcome back, Joe!
Welcome back my friend!!
Love ya!
Good Review ,the recording had errors
Yah,Joe is back and I'm hoping everything is going well. You are a great reviewer and hope things keep up for you!
Yay, you're back! Awesome review as always! It sounds like things are going better for you and I'm glad to hear it. :)
Why thank you!
Glad you are back man! So excited to watch this later.
nice
Im so glad you are back joe! Xx
That A team made one of my favorite robin hoods ever.. maybe the best one
It was a massive hit in France. My parents took me to see it in Paris, on the Champs Elysees, in 1977. I was 4! You forgot to mention Evinrude!
I love that song someone waiting for you I love this movie little girl penny and her teddy bear
Medusa is no Cruella De Vil but she's fun even though they should have brought back Cruella!
glad you are back.
So glad to have you back, Joe! Missed you so much, about to go to Disney World and this put me right in the spirit! @joethedisneyguy
Glad you're back!
I'm with you Joe, I too love Old Time Radio and I did the same thing with Fibber McGee and Molly
Good to see you again.
Intresting history behind this movie. I am curious about the books now. Maybe I can find them. It trully is amazing this out of all the Disney movies got a sequel in theatre as well.
I've always liked to think that Medusa and Cruella are related somehow...sisters, or at the least cousins.
Glad to see you back Joe!
