    As a kid, I never understood why Katrina married Brom after Ichabod disappeared. I thought it was kind of uncaring of her to just throw away her feelings for Ichabod. Of course, as an adult I can see now that she never really cared for Ichabod at all; she only flirted with him to make Brom jealous. It was quite a revelation for me.
    Great review, as always.

      I watched the movie as an adult and caught on to Katrina's game early on. I hated her for that...

    I’m sad that The Wind in the Willows wasn’t a full length feature thanks to that damn World War II. I really enjoyed the segment and wanted to see more of it.

    one of my favorite songs out of the whole Disney films was the headless horseman song and the most scary scene in the movie as a kid was the build up to the Headless Horseman in the forest with a really good payoff. still gives me chills to this very day

    I love a set of lines from this film that The Nostalgia Critic included in his commentary:
    Prosecutor: Then how did he [Toad] get the motorcar?
    Horse: The only way a gentleman gets anything, the honest way.
    Prosecutor: And what is the honest way?
    Horse: Ha ha, I thought you wouldn't know that, gov'nor!

    Walt Disney's versions of the Kenneth Grahme stories of the Reluctant Dragon and Mr.Toad were a lot closer to the original stories than the 1970 Rankin-Bass Saturday Morning cartoon show.

    • @tavvyprods1275
      @tavvyprods1275 4 года назад

      Well Rankin Bass’s 1987 made-for-television version was much more faithful than either of them.

      I strongly disagree that The Wind In The Willows segment is faithful to the original novel. Because Toad did in fact steal the motorcar in the original novel

    Here's what I like about Sleepy Hallow.
    If you noticed really watch how Ichabod and Brom Bones are introduced, you got Brom carrying a keg of beer to share with the townspeople, he even punches a hole so the animals can drink, hell he's the last person to actually get a drink. Ichabod Crane on the other hand as he passes a person carrying pie it is revealed that he took a pie to himself. So in reality Ichabod is kinda a jerk. I mean it is implied numerous times that he only wants Katrina for her money and has no problem with a person dying. Brom Bones on the other hand really doesn't do anything that bad, not even a bully just a guy who enjoys his April fools pranks a little too much, plus he genuinely wants to be with Katrina. You actually feel kinda sorry for him when he gets beat up.
    I just found that to be interesting.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 лет назад +4

      RyanKmetzActor I agree. As a kid, it was easy to say Ichabod's the good guy, Brom's the bad guy, but getting older and looking at it again, conventions are kind of skewed in the short, which does make it cool and very different for the time

    You do such a wonderful job. Love the research and the quick summary. I'd suggest sitting in front of the camera to be closer to the spectator (you can leave the cam where it is and just place a chair there). It'll seem a bit more intimate and natural. Add a bit of depth of field if you'd like. Also, please use the same mic / recording equipment for VO and cam. Sync it in post. Otherwise, well edited and very well presented. Absolutely magnificent! You should probably also,in your title, present the video as a history + review to draw in more viewers.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  9 лет назад +2

      +David Vaipan Thank you, and unfortunately, a lot of your critiques are done out of necessity and space, rather than choice. Check out some of my older reviews to see how I'd ideally do them, but without an external microphone/microphone port on my camera and with the echo in my new apartment, I found it to be far easier/clearer to do my voiceovers how I do them (literally using my camera as a mic)
      As for my titles, it's done more for branding purposes. I've tried to create a setup where a "Disney Guy Review," on my channel, designates that it's both an in depth history and review as well.

    I had never heard of "The Wind in the Willows" during my childhood. But I did own "Sleepy Hollow" on the "Favorite Stories" Collection; however, I never watched it. Why? Because of the Headless Horseman. I didn't even need to see the short to be scared of him, all it took was seeing him on the cover of the VHS for me to avoid the short at all costs. However, when my grandmother got me the movie on VHS, I decided to see it. I saw the Mr. Toad segment and liked it and I finally saw "Sleepy Hollow." And Yeah, I was a little scared of the Headless Horseman, but my fear were soon conquered and to this day, I like the short. I like the narrations of Bing Crosby for "Sleepy Hollow" and that other guy for Mr. Toad. I like the Headless Horseman song, and "We're Merrily On Our Way," as well as Ichabod's song. Overall, this movie is a good collection of two shorts that pretty well together. And so with that being said, I've got only one last thing to say:
    .....man, I'm getting outta here.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 лет назад +2

      Haha that is a fantasitc end to the movie, I must say. And it's funny, because I read/heard both stories in school as a kid, and Sleepy Hollow just interested me more because it seemed cooler, partially because it was a scary story and partially because of the Headless Horseman. I dont even like scary movies, but for some reason, was always attracted to Sleepy Hollow

    I must admit that I haven't read either story recently enough to remember, so I had no intentions of comparing the stories to the film. I enjoyed both segments greatly, but during the Legend of Sleepy Hollow I was confused on who I was supposed to be "rooting for" to win over Katrina. Originally, I assumed that Ichabod was the "good guy", but after learning his intentions I wasn't so sure. I suppose if Katrina was just using Ichabod it kind of doesn't make much difference... but UGH! I'm still confused...

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 лет назад +1

      Right!? That's what I was confused about. Logic says that Ichabod would be the good guy, but they go out of their way early in the short to say that none of Brom's pranks were ever malicious, and clearly Ichabod has some ulterior motives, so I dunno what to believe anymore

    • @jetuber
      @jetuber 9 лет назад +5

      +Joe The Disney Guy Brom is the good guy, and Ichabod the bad guy. Well, actually, it's more realistic, in that both have good and bad qualities -- like real people, not stereotypes of "good" and "evil." But Brom is basically in the right, and Ichabod is rather a rotten character, all in all.

    The Adventure of Ichabod & Mr.Toad is yet another of my favorite Disney films. I love the Headless Horseman scene in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and I especially love the Disney Park attraction based off it. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

    this movie actually felt like a classic Disney movie. it flowed better than all the other Wartime Era films to me, except maybe The Three Caballeros.
    The Wind In The Willows: 10/10 (a childhood favorite, i love this segment so much, it's scary)
    The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow: 8/10 (a little too much lady chasing, not enough Headless Horseman. a bit Three Caballeros for my taste)
    overall, i give this movie a 8.5/10. my favorite Wartime Era film

    Since this is the last package film Walt Disney was forced to make, I often feel relieved to hear about this animation project. I like to hear that soon Walt Disney can go back to making actual movies instead of package films. Unfortunately, the closest I can get to liking this project is just with one of the two stories, and even there I don't know which one. On one had, The Wind and the Willows has many more voice actors, including being the first Disney project to have J Pat O'Malley as a character. On the other hand, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is more fun to watch, including being a perfectly good Halloween project. In any case, I am gad to see the time for package films is over.

    I remember one of my relative buy an original copy of this Ichabod and Mr Toad CD
    I find this bit spooky for young children but even for wartime era ,
    Where production budget really carefully ratio,
    I think the animation is smooth and still having a narrative structure
    (( but for Sleepy Hollow segment,
    I should find the ending leaving a question))
