I'm looking to pick up a mixer, and was advised to check out a few digitals, Qu-16 being one of them. I'll be looking into this mixer some more, but have a question about this streaming with usb. Can I record the "raw" inputs coming into each channel, and then later mixdown after the fact to make a recording? I am talking about recording while also mixing for a live performance.
Dusty Wilson Hey, blast from the past, but looks like you found a solution as you posted a newer question. I can see the tracks in Ableton, but recording multiple at once seems not to want to work, plus I am completely lost as I just upgraded from a Zed and Mixcraft, lol. Been researching and researching but these videos assume so much knowledge already. Did you find a more in depth walkthrough? Lol
Does this work with the Qu 32 series? Im new to this whole game, and we currently use a QU 32 and it's multitrack playback function is great!! Can I use the Qu Drive to stream the recordings live into my Mac so that i dont have to wait to load the wav files into my daw and edit?If so, How can I use the QU32 (how to configure it)
Real time does not exist when interfacing as the conversion in and/or out off the computer will add inherent latency. There are methods that can be applied but won’t achieve Realtime. Waves server racks are a better solution for lower latency plugin integration. Though, you must bear in mind with QU, dSnake is not an open protocol. So, you can only interface with racks that offer USB interfacing (no network). I hope this helps! Thanks, Luke
@@AllenandHeathUK it would be sufficient even just on the voice channel via USB. but can I do it 1:1 or better go back to another channel? if I have problems I can work with the dry fader
Hi 1ELiMusic, are you talking about audio or MIDI? On the PC you have ASIO drivers for the audio and there is a MIDI driver to allow Qu to communicate MIDI via USB, the only thing we don't offer is the DAW Control app for PC which translates our MIDI in to the HUI and Mackie Control protocols.
hi, cant get this thing to work on playback after recording to logic. nice 16 trax recrded, sound wont come back thru mixer. tried all the tutorials etc. . i have regressed to selecting onboard output using a cord from the macbook headphone jack to ST3 input jack on mixer to hear playback. seems like a clumsy machine when an old makie 1660i from 20 years ago played back easy. maybe i am a dunce, highly possible, but a quick easy solution dies not seem to exist. i would love to be able to overdub over various parts i record, really only need stereo out from computer (logic project) to be routed back thru mixer. alas. i will happily eat my words if there is a better way to do this.help!
Hi, By default, the input source on QU is set to local. For USB playback you need to set this to USB - USB B. There is detail on Page 29 of the user guide on how to access this screen. www.allen-heath.com/content/uploads/2023/06/Qu-Mixer-Reference-Guide-AP9372_10.pdf If you want multitrack playback you will need to set all channel to USB. If you just want the DAW master bus, then you return this to a dedicated stereo channel. Thanks, Luke
I'm trying to decide between the QU-24 and the Behringer X32, my main question is since I will be mainly using this for production studio purposes is that will the motorized faders react to the automations parameters in the DAW as it would if it were on the console - I haven't seen a video yet that demonstrates this.
Hi, We are small church with very limited time and resources to setup the Qu24 sound system. We stream using an iPhone on RUclips. Currently for the audio we are routing Mix 9/10 on ALT out and using the following cables: 1. Dual TRS to single 3.5mm cable 2. TRS to TRRS patch cable 3. Lightning to stereo adapter. While this setup works we have some buzz noise coming out of it. We would like to switch to Digital audio and use the USB-B port with an iPhone. I see that we will need a "Lightning to USB adapter" and USB-B to USB-A cable. On the Mixer, are there any specific settings that I should change to make this work seamlessly? [Mix 9/10 audio send to iPhone] Please help us out.
Hello Kirubakar Santhanam, We do not officially support this type of connection as we do not test the products with it. You are welcome to give it a try by using a USB to lighting adapter, but unfortunately we cannot ensure its proper operation. My only advise would be to make sure you use an official Apple adapter for this., such as this: www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MK0W2ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter Patching and process should be exactly the same as for when integrating with a DAW: support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4403019846033-Qu-How-do-I-route-audio-to-and-from-my-Qu-mixer-and-a-DAW- My recommendation would be to connect to a computer system instead, with the USB B port. Thanks, Rafael
Is it possible to have two different mixes for the different outputs. i.e. a mix for the PA and another to the USB output. This way I can have a livestream mix separate from the PA. I may want some mics coming in a little louder on the live stream than the PA and others not coming on the PA at all (e.g. drums/ambient room mics)
Hi Bahamasc, That is indeed possible! All you have to do is set your main mix, then create a mix on any of the mix buses. And you can select a different output for each as stereo channels, either a physical XLR output or USB B. Rafael
I'm sending out MIX 5/6 to our OSB streaming computer on Channels 1 and 2 (works fine) , but I seem to loose channels 1 and 2 from the actual performance when recording a backup to the Qu-Drive. Should I send my MIX 5/6 out differently?
Hello Dan, please select Mix 5/6 and press/hold the Assign button, kindly make sure that channels 1 and 2 are assigned to this bus by confirming their 'SEL' key is lit, of not, then please go ahead and press these keys to assign them. Cheers, Rafael
I'm tracking into Reaper and am having issues with DAW control and more importantly, monitoring. I've been trying to figure out how to route the master signal in Reaper out through the Master output of the QU24 .. .

We are currently running a stereo matrix feed (MTX 3-4) to our streaming computer (streaming our services to RUclips via vMix) I was wondering if we could just run the audio to our streaming computer via the USB B output. Is this possible without running through another PC (DAW)? Can the USB B audio be a summed stereo output into our streaming PC via ASIO input software?
Hi! It's possible to patch any input channel direct out/insert point or mix output to one of the USB output channels. This is done in the 'Setup > I/O Patch > USB Audio' screen. You'll need to select the USB channels you want to use, then turn the touchscreen rotary to select the MTX output (as you're using stereo, select an odd-even pair, and patch both L and R outputs of the Matrix to these individually). Then on the computer you're connected to, using a program that supports ASIO, just select these same USB channels from the Qu as your inputs. If you need further help with this, please contact us using support.allen-heath.com and we can run through it in more detail :) Thanks! Keith.
Hi, I am using the Cu32 tomorrow for the first time - we are wanting to set up a separate mix - using either a group or the USB output - to send a mix to our iMac for live streaming in our church. I will use the same EQ and effect settings that we have for the FOH - but may need to adjust the mix. What output from the Cu32 would be best to use to send this "steaming output" to our Scarlett 4i4?
Hi Mike, To have separate control of the Mix to the LR, I recommend using a stereo Aux mix instead of a Group or Matrix. This will allow independent control of levels and panning, along with it's own mix processing. I recommend watching our Facebook Live video on using the Qu for streaming. You can find it here: facebook.com/AllenHeathofficial/videos/1057311267974797/ Thanks! Alex
@@AllenandHeathUK Alex, we had our first stream last night - and we had some really weird problems...first of all, we lost some of the mics - they were sounding fine in the LR - but in 9-10, it was as if you would only hear that channel in the distance - like in a chamber. And then, the reverb was not working right at all in the 9-10 mix. It did when we set it up Sunday. After it was all over, the other sound guy and I reviewed your Facebook video (the link you sent me) and we had everything set up as you outline at the 21 minute mark in the video. Im trying to run Logic Pro X with my Allen and Heath Qu 32. Ive completed this steps, but how to I send the stereo signal out to my livestream? My goal is to send the mix from Logic back through the Qu 32 and to the live stream, while running sound for church services. Please help!
Hello John, Are you mixing on your DAW or at the mixer? If your original sources are coming from the mixer, you could send either your L&R or a Mix output into whatever streaming software you are using. I'm not quite sure what role is Logic playing in your setup. To send a stereo channel from the mixer to your DAW, simply go to Setup - I/O patch - USB Audio, select the USB channels you wish to use and scroll until you find the mix that you want to send. On your streaming software, you will have to patch this same USB Channel as your input channel. If you need further assistance, please submit a ticket on our support system, and I would be happy to troubleshoot this further with you. www.allen-heath.com/where-to-buy/ Thank you, Rafael
Hi William, We don't support this as only one USB host (computer) should be used with the Qu at a time. There may be options available which allow you to stream audio from one computer to another, but you wouldn't be able to use the Qu for this and it would require a third party solution. Thanks Alex
Hi, Thanks for the message. You need to highlight the light, then scroll using the screen encoder. Then you can see/access the other mixes, plus, PAFL. Kind regards, Luke
Is there anyway to send a mix to USB for live streaming to like OBS or wirecast, let’s say if I create a mix in Mix 5-6 stereo and want to sent the mix through the usb to my live stream computer for my church ... I’m able to do that with Behringer x32 and the Midas M32 can’t seem to figure it out on the A&H QU32... Any help will be appreciated... Thx
Hi Kuuuks, The Qu provides WDM and ASIO inputs and outputs for use with computer applications. For WDM input, Line is available from the Qu, and this uses USB 17 & 18 in Setup > IO Patch > USB Audio on the Qu. If input and outputs devices cannot be configured in your program, you may need to set these as the device for Windows in system settings. Please go to support.allen-heath.com to start a ticket you'd like assistance with this. Thanks! Alex
Hi. I would like to ask if this mixer is capable of assigning different applications to different channels. For example is there an option to assign a USB stereo input to one of the faders and assign a program to it through windows settings or virtual cable software.
Hello Arman, The mixer is capable of patching any source from any socket you want into any channel of the mixer. You could have a few channels coming from the local sockets, other channels from an expander and other channels from USB source. If you need further assistance with your set up please submit a ticket on our help centre and I will be happy to assist you. www.allen-heath.com/support/ Thank you, Rafael
Hi, I purchased the Qu-16 a few months ago. I have watched all of the videos you have produced on how to use the different features of the Qu. However, I'm having trouble getting my usb streaming to work properly. I have a MacBook Pro, using Adobe Audition as a DAW. I have made all of the changes to the custom layer to accept MIDI signals. I have made the changes to the preferences to audio hardware to accept the Qu-16 channels and downloaded the DAW controller. The MIDI channel & DAW controller channels are 1 and 2 respectively. I loaded a multitrack into my DAW and set the appropriate ins and outs in the DAW. The signal comes thru the first layer and not thru the custom layer, therefore I cannot control the DAW from the mixer. Please help, what am I doing wrong. I am getting a signal in the first box on the bottom right of the DAW controller window when I move the regular layer fader not the custom layer. I am a novice at audio mixing and still learning the process. I will appreciate any help you can provide. Please publish more videos for novices like me. Thanks.
Hi Cassandra, the custom layer is only used for MIDI control, not for audio. You won't see the meters move on the custom layer, only on the upper and lower layers as applicable. We haven't actually tested Adobe Audition with the DAW Control app, we currently support Mackie Control and HUI on OSX so you'll need to check if Audition supports these MIDI protocols.
pls help. whats the name of qu application on PC? looks like its for mac system not windows. im using qu-24 and connect via usb DAW connect to reaper right now.

Attempting to connect the main mix from the USB-B audio out to a live stream on the computer. In the software (Elgato) it shows the 32 different channels. The USB sends on the soundboard are all default. When I select channel 17 or 18 (in Game Capture HD) for the main mix, I get nothing. When I select a specific channel just to get one mic, I get nothing. Most tutorials and videos show that this should just work, so I must be something different. Am I missing anything? (I understand the problem could be with Elgato, I'll try to get it to work with a different program...) Just wanted to make sure I haven't missed something obvious.
Hi! I recommend going to support.allen-heath.com to start a support ticket ticket on this. But if you are able to use the Qu with a different program on the same computer, it would point towards the software as the cause. Thanks! Alex
Im new at the hardware mixer planet, Im planning to buy more hardware synths so I need this thing that is a mixer and also a soundcard so is perfect. The thing is that I have a doubt what happen if I have a synth with stereo outputs like the virus TI or the novation mininova how can is the proper way to connect this on the mono inputs of the mixer??
hi, i am sending all 16 channels to logic. recording is fine as i monitor as i go from alt out of qu16 to amp. but on playback i get nothing. sound is there in logic, just not making it back to the mixer via usb. please help! cheers

This unit is SO difficult to learn. Ive got several sources coming to the Qu - CD players etc...they come up fine on the Q and I have them routed so I can record in the newest pro tools on a brand new IMac......but I cant for the life of me get my pro tools full mix to play through the Qu and out my speakers. The CD for example WILL play in the speakers from the actual CD player but whatever ive recorded in P Tools to play OUT to the Q I cannot figure out the routing. HELP! btw Ive been a pro tools user and been doing professional production for 40 years (20 on PT of course).
Hello, Any channel streamed back from the computer/DAW into the mixer needs to get into a new available channel (This is patched from the DAW by selecting as the output any available channels of the QU). On the QU mixer you must select what is the signal source of any particular channel, which in this case will need to be USB B. You can find details of this at the user guide (Page 29), as well as the following article: support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4403019846033-Qu-How-do-I-route-audio-to-and-from-my-Qu-mixer-and-a-DAW- Thanks Rafael
Hi Omar, The AES output on Qu is simply a digital stereo output and can connect to any AES input. If your home theatre hardware has an AES input, then yes you can indeed use the Qu AES output. Thanks! Alex
Hi, Thanks for the message, To route to something basic like an I-rig to Facebook, you must utilise USB streams 1 & 2. Go to Setup>I/O patch>USB Audio and set USB 1 & 2 to the desired Stereo mix bus (L& R). If you require further assistance with this, please drop us a line at support@allen-heath.com Many thanks, Luke
To Allen&HeathUK: When ever I'm recording 8 simultaneous tracks through my Qu windows driver from my Qu-32, will I have the option to use a compressor/gate/ and limiter to record our sound separately and keep the sound at digital0?
+New St. John Fellowship Church Hi, you can choose under Setup > I/O Patch > USB Audio, toggle CH/ST/GRP Source: to Direct Out if you want to include processing in your recorded channels. If you push the 'Routing' button followed by an input channel 'Sel' button you can choose where the direct out taps the signal. What you cannot do is record one channel with processing and one without, the setting is global so it's an either or scenario, Mike.
I'm having an issue with the QU-24 where I can only stream back through the ST3 input, either from a daw or spotify (Mac OS X Mojave) regardless of how I set it up. (even configure speakers makes no difference) Any advice is appreciated!

What is the round trip latency like, say 24/48kHz ASIO with a 64 sample buffer? I want to replace my Focusite interface with a Qu-16, but I am concerned that I cannot find latency numbers anywhere.
Hi Robstafarian, having done some basic tests with an average spec. 2010 MBP, we've achieved around 6-7ms round-trip at 24/48kHz. 64 sample buffer, with Qu series. A faster computer may perform better. :)
Hi Gagan, Qu series mixers require a Core Audio or ASIO compliant DAW are not compatible with Pro Tools 8 LE as this was only able to support the Digidesign Audio Engine. Pro Tools 9 was able to support Native Core Audio and ASIO audio interfaces though. Check out our Qu Studio DAW Webinar here: ruclips.net/video/UDxdgQhKex4/видео.html Thanks. Harry.
Hi Paul, Thanks for the message. I believe there are two different DAW applications shown in this video. The first one at a glance is Reaper, whereas, the second and main one displayed and demonstrated is Protools. Cheers, Luke
Hi Alex, On a Mac, CoreAudio is used throughout, whilst on a PC there are WDM drivers (for system sound) and ASIO drivers (for direct addressing of the Qu ie. with a DAW). The WDM drivers use the stereo channels on the Qu, so no, on a PC you cannot configure these to use the mono channels in the same way as shown here. Cheers, Keith.
Why am I spending my none replaceable life watching a video when I have a 300 page operator manual, a reference manual, and every damn update revision put out by Allen and Heath? How the hell do American companies get away with charging premium prices and supplying incomplete instructions that speak only rhetorically about how to operate advance features fully! Western culture always seeks to "cookie crumb" you and therefore maintain its contrived sense of superiority. GOD help us if we ever go to war and the masses discover just how far we have been led astray by the knowledgeable. When I go to my instruction books, I'm want to see STEP-BY-STEP instructions of how to make EACH feature perform -as claimed in your glossy advertisements. Stop "COOKIE CRUMBING" US -you got your money!
Is there a way to listen to the live input through the MAC earphone jack instead of the QU-32? The MAC is connected to the QU-32 using the USB cable. We have all channels recording but we're unable to hear the sound on the MAC. We need to hear the "mixing" on the MAC versus what the FOH guy is doing. Thanks for any help.
Hi Steven, if you're mixing inputs on your Mac while your FOH guy is doing your live mix, if you're not using all 32 inputs you can stream a stereo USB return from the DAW and send this to any of Qu's mix outputs. If you need any more assistance drop us a line to support@allen-heath.com Thanks. Harry.
I just want to send mix 2 to Audacity to make a recording. Is this not possible? It's been extremely frustrating trying to find information about this.

Hi Abhishikth, The Qu -32 has a USB B interface on the back which can be connected to a USB port on your computer. If you're using a Windows computer, you'll need to install the Windows ASIO/WDM driver on your computer. You can find this here: www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/#tab5 Mac systems don't need a driver. Once you are connected and have the driver installed (if required), the Qu should appear as an audio device. If you need further assistance, go to support.allen-heath.com to start a support ticket. Thanks! Alex
Hello Vladimir, You may certainly add tracks into your USB drive and playback these on the console. Please note that MP3 is not supported, only .WAV files. Please make sure that these files are placed on the correct folder, for details you may refer to pages 52, 53 and 54 of the user manual: www.allen-heath.com/media/Qu-Mixer-Reference-Guide-AP9372_10.pdf Thank you, Rafael

I am getting a strong desire to buy one of these units after using the 24 channel model up at a local venue. It is a very nice unit for live sound and I like that it can also serve as a multitrack interface to DAWs via USB. I work with disabled bands and would like to put together a small recording rig comprising an old G5 Mac (power PC) and Logic 9 that I have lying around with a qu-16 as the mic preamps and A-D/D-A converter for recording and monitoring DAW playback during recording. Would anyone happen to know if the QU-16 USB interface will work in this fashion with *any* USB 2.0 enabled computer or does it need to be an intel machine with a recent OS? *update* I'll be using OSX 10.4x (Tiger) Thanks for any assistance. How can I use the effects (e.g. delay or reverb) from my DAW? My DAW is Reason 10. I can create an "Audio Track" within my DAW and can hear the monitor-sound of my microphone, and I can record into the DAW - but the signal is dry. I want to apply the DAW-effects and listen to these in realtime - how is that possible step-by-step? (I have a Qu-16)
Hi Olectrix, This would involve sending the audio out of the Qu mixer over USB B and then returning the effected signal to an input channel. Depending on how you want this set up, you could either use a spare mix bus to route audio to the DAW, or you could stream each input channel individually and choose the inputs you would like to effect in the DAW. This is configured in Setup > IO Patch > USB Audio. You would then assign the output of the DAW to an input on the desk (1&2 for CH1 & CH2, 17&18 for ST1, etc) and source those desk channels from USB B. This is done by pressing the Sel key of an input channel, followed by the Processing key. You can then press the Fn (Source) key to view the input channel source page. I hope this helps and please start a ticket at support.allen-heath.com for further assistance. Thanks! Alex
Hi Marek, It's possible that this is simply a metering mismatch. If the DAW is metering in dBFS, then 0dB on the mixer will correspond to -18dB in the DAW. If you would like to offset this, you could do it using the Direct Out trim. Go to Setup > I/O Patch > USB Audio and change the CH/ST/Grp source to Direct Outs. Next, select a channel and then press the Routing key. You can now boost the Direct Out trim up to +10dB. Please note, this trim is per channel, so you will need to select each channel and boost the trim individually. Thanks! Alex
@@AllenandHeathUK you were right. It looks like the DAW had a different scale than the mixing table. when I set the gain on the table meter between 0 dB and 6 bB in the program I have betwen -18 and -12. This is probably a good level for rerecording. Thank you very much
Hi Kenny, You can assign individual channels or entire mixes to the USB stream on Qu in Setup > I/O Patch > USB Audio. For example, if you assign CH12 to USB 1, you would select number 1 on your computer to get the signal from CH12. I hope this helps! Thanks Alex
Hi RJ, You can use the Qu-24 for both audio and DAW control with Logic. We have made templates for DAW's (including Logic) which are available on our website here (www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/#tab4). Cheers! Keith.
Hi hello I want to stream online service and have live sound at the same time how can I sent the master mix LR to the USB and to the from of the house as well
Hi Emmanuel, To assign what is being sent out on the USB stream, go to 'Setup>I/O Patch>USB Audio'. By default, the Post LR signal (which is the same as the main mix) is sent on channels 17&18. Also, if you'd like to change the mix being sent for streaming, the following article may be of use (support.allen-heath.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/1179/201/alternative-qu-drive-stereo-recording). Thanks! Keith.
+New St. John Fellowship Church You can record up to 18 channels direct to USB media using the onboard Qu-Drive feature. For larger channel counts up to 32, you will need a PC/Mac but you don't have to use Pro Tools. Any ASIO or CoreAudio DAW will work, Mike.
Hi Musician God, The Qu will work with any program that supports CoreAudio, ASIO or WDM drivers. Use with a Mac does not require drivers, and for windows use, just download the latest drivers from our website. Thanks! Keith.
+MrGamegast We supply audio and MIDI drivers for use with Windows. Pro Tools only works with protocols such as HUI, Eucon etc. We don't supply a utility for Windows that will convert the Qu MIDI to a protocol that Pro Tools wants so you'll need something like Bomes MIDI Translator to bridge the two together.
Hi anthony, Yes, the Qu will show up as a multichannel asio audio device on your computer, so any program that supports asio devices (including Sonar) will work. Cheers! Keith.
Hi Rian, We show the Qu with Pro Tools in this video, but any application that supports ASIO or WDM interfaces should work well with the Qu for audio recording. Thanks! Alex
Having the same problem: I’ve my Qu-24 running fine as a controller for ProTools (12). Everything works great except I can’t pan a channel left and right. I assumed I had something setup wrong in the I/Os. I’m not quite sure I’m reading the answer above correctly… did Nicola A&H say this isn’t possible? (!) Mixing music with no ability to pan things L/R is not ideal, obviously. Any suggestions on a workaround?
Hi Uriah, Qu works great in Pro Tools 9, 10 & 11. No drivers required so just connect via USB-B and the Qu will instantly be recognized by the Mac, select Qu as the playback engine in Pro Tools and you're good to go, M.

Hi! It is possible to use the Qu USB B interface with an iPad if you use the correct adapter. If your iPad is a model with a Lightning port, you should use the Lightning to USB 3 Camera adapter, as you will need to have the power for the iPad connected at the same time as the USB interface. For more information, please go to support.allen-heath.com to start a support ticket. Thanks! Alex
Hi again! We recommend Cubasis for use with our ZEDi mixers, so this would be a great option with the Qu too, but any iOS based DAW application should work well with the Qu. Thanks! Alex
Great will check that out. By the way- this routing setup (Mixer-DAW as playback) all this settings can be saved as scene? For easy recall in future and also easy revert back to the conventional Mixer Only (No Laptop DAW). Thanks!
Hi Pedro, Any program which uses audio can be used with Qu. However, to record and playback multi-tracks, you will need to use a DAW which can route the audio in this way. Thanks! Alex
Selecting the source from the Processing menu had me stumped forever trying to figure out why my audio wasn't outputting from ASIO. Great video!

Hello! Our stream audio sound is very quiet and compressed. Is that a matter of audio sample rate or an encoding issue with our video software: vMix?
I'm looking to pick up a mixer, and was advised to check out a few digitals, Qu-16 being one of them. I'll be looking into this mixer some more, but have a question about this streaming with usb. Can I record the "raw" inputs coming into each channel, and then later mixdown after the fact to make a recording? I am talking about recording while also mixing for a live performance.
Is there any source online that delves much deeper into USB-to-DAW streaming with the Qu?
Need more info. Thanx !
Lol
I barely understood what he saying
Does this work with the Qu 32 series? Im new to this whole game, and we currently use a QU 32 and it's multitrack playback function is great!! Can I use the Qu Drive to stream the recordings live into my Mac so that i dont have to wait to load the wav files into my daw and edit?If so, How can I use the QU32 (how to configure it)
Well, this device is pretty awesome.
HI. Is it possible to use one or two USB channels in real time with Qu32? to use particular effects on the voice? using a DAW or waves rack?
Real time does not exist when interfacing as the conversion in and/or out off the computer will add inherent latency. There are methods that can be applied but won’t achieve Realtime. Waves server racks are a better solution for lower latency plugin integration. Though, you must bear in mind with QU, dSnake is not an open protocol. So, you can only interface with racks that offer USB interfacing (no network).
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Luke

Hi 1ELiMusic, are you talking about audio or MIDI?
On the PC you have ASIO drivers for the audio and there is a MIDI driver to allow Qu to communicate MIDI via USB, the only thing we don't offer is the DAW Control app for PC which translates our MIDI in to the HUI and Mackie Control protocols.
AllenandHeathUK Any chance that Daw Control for PC will be provided in the near future?
hi, cant get this thing to work on playback after recording to logic. nice 16 trax recrded, sound wont come back thru mixer. tried all the tutorials etc. . i have regressed to selecting onboard output using a cord from the macbook headphone jack to ST3 input jack on mixer to hear playback. seems like a clumsy machine when an old makie 1660i from 20 years ago played back easy. maybe i am a dunce, highly possible, but a quick easy solution dies not seem to exist. i would love to be able to overdub over various parts i record, really only need stereo out from computer (logic project) to be routed back thru mixer. alas. i will happily eat my words if there is a better way to do this.help!
Hi,
By default, the input source on QU is set to local. For USB playback you need to set this to USB - USB B.
There is detail on Page 29 of the user guide on how to access this screen.
www.allen-heath.com/content/uploads/2023/06/Qu-Mixer-Reference-Guide-AP9372_10.pdf
If you want multitrack playback you will need to set all channel to USB. If you just want the DAW master bus, then you return this to a dedicated stereo channel.
Thanks,
Luke
I'm trying to decide between the QU-24 and the Behringer X32, my main question is since I will be mainly using this for production studio purposes is that will the motorized faders react to the automations parameters in the DAW as it would if it were on the console - I haven't seen a video yet that demonstrates this.
Thanks a bunch! Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Can this be done with Pro Tools Intro?
Hi,
We are small church with very limited time and resources to setup the Qu24 sound system.
We stream using an iPhone on RUclips.
Currently for the audio we are routing Mix 9/10 on ALT out and using the following cables:
1. Dual TRS to single 3.5mm cable
2. TRS to TRRS patch cable
[Mix 9/10 audio send to iPhone]
Please help us out.
Hello Kirubakar Santhanam,
We do not officially support this type of connection as we do not test the products with it.
You are welcome to give it a try by using a USB to lighting adapter, but unfortunately we cannot ensure its proper operation.
My only advise would be to make sure you use an official Apple adapter for this., such as this: www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MK0W2ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter
Patching and process should be exactly the same as for when integrating with a DAW: support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4403019846033-Qu-How-do-I-route-audio-to-and-from-my-Qu-mixer-and-a-DAW-
My recommendation would be to connect to a computer system instead, with the USB B port.
Thanks,
Rafael
Is it possible to have two different mixes for the different outputs. i.e. a mix for the PA and another to the USB output. This way I can have a livestream mix separate from the PA. I may want some mics coming in a little louder on the live stream than the PA and others not coming on the PA at all (e.g. drums/ambient room mics)
Hi Bahamasc,
That is indeed possible!
All you have to do is set your main mix, then create a mix on any of the mix buses. And you can select a different output for each as stereo channels, either a physical XLR output or USB B.
Rafael
Can i stream the USB audio post-fader to my DAW? i want to multitrack and mix the levels live
Yes, you can do that if you want to.
I'm trying to do this too! I have reaper and can't figure out how to multitrack. What DAW is best for this? I have windows 10.
I'm sending out MIX 5/6 to our OSB streaming computer on Channels 1 and 2 (works fine) , but I seem to loose channels 1 and 2 from the actual performance when recording a backup to the Qu-Drive. Should I send my MIX 5/6 out differently?
Hello Dan,
please select Mix 5/6 and press/hold the Assign button, kindly make sure that channels 1 and 2 are assigned to this bus by confirming their 'SEL' key is lit, of not, then please go ahead and press these keys to assign them.

I have used an M32 and Presonus in the past.
Hi Mike,
To have separate control of the Mix to the LR, I recommend using a stereo Aux mix instead of a Group or Matrix. This will allow independent control of levels and panning, along with it's own mix processing.

Hello John,
Are you mixing on your DAW or at the mixer?
If your original sources are coming from the mixer, you could send either your L&R or a Mix output into whatever streaming software you are using. I'm not quite sure what role is Logic playing in your setup.
To send a stereo channel from the mixer to your DAW, simply go to Setup - I/O patch - USB Audio, select the USB channels you wish to use and scroll until you find the mix that you want to send.
On your streaming software, you will have to patch this same USB Channel as your input channel.
If you need further assistance, please submit a ticket on our support system, and I would be happy to troubleshoot this further with you.

@AllenandHeathUK Can I connect two computers with a USB Hub? For multiple devices taking the audio input/output.
Hi William,
We don't support this as only one USB host (computer) should be used with the Qu at a time. There may be options available which allow you to stream audio from one computer to another, but you wouldn't be able to use the Qu for this and it would require a third party solution.

Hi Kuuuks,
The Qu provides WDM and ASIO inputs and outputs for use with computer applications. For WDM input, Line is available from the Qu, and this uses USB 17 & 18 in Setup > IO Patch > USB Audio on the Qu. If input and outputs devices cannot be configured in your program, you may need to set these as the device for Windows in system settings.

Hi. I would like to ask if this mixer is capable of assigning different applications to different channels. For example is there an option to assign a USB stereo input to one of the faders and assign a program to it through windows settings or virtual cable software.
Hello Arman,
The mixer is capable of patching any source from any socket you want into any channel of the mixer.
You could have a few channels coming from the local sockets, other channels from an expander and other channels from USB source.

Thanks Mike !

Hello,
Any channel streamed back from the computer/DAW into the mixer needs to get into a new available channel (This is patched from the DAW by selecting as the output any available channels of the QU).
On the QU mixer you must select what is the signal source of any particular channel, which in this case will need to be USB B.
You can find details of this at the user guide (Page 29), as well as the following article: support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4403019846033-Qu-How-do-I-route-audio-to-and-from-my-Qu-mixer-and-a-DAW-

How can i use my Qu 32 as an input device in my lap.
I want to use the output for live streaming...
Hi Abhishikth,
The Qu -32 has a USB B interface on the back which can be connected to a USB port on your computer.
If you're using a Windows computer, you'll need to install the Windows ASIO/WDM driver on your computer. You can find this here: www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/#tab5
Mac systems don't need a driver.
Once you are connected and have the driver installed (if required), the Qu should appear as an audio device.

I want to apply the DAW-effects and listen to these in realtime - how is that possible step-by-step? (I have a Qu-16)
Hi Olectrix,
This would involve sending the audio out of the Qu mixer over USB B and then returning the effected signal to an input channel.

It's possible that this is simply a metering mismatch.
Thanks!
Alex
@@AllenandHeathUK OK i try your solution with. At the moment it works at this video ruclips.net/video/19jzpSJEkHE/видео.html
@@AllenandHeathUK you were right. It looks like the DAW had a different scale than the mixing table. when I set the gain on the table meter between 0 dB and 6 bB in the program I have betwen -18 and -12. This is probably a good level for rerecording. Thank you very much
I have a Qu-32 can I patch just 2 channels from one of my mixes to the computer? what channel numbers would those be.
Hi Kenny,
You can assign individual channels or entire mixes to the USB stream on Qu in Setup > I/O Patch > USB Audio. For example, if you assign CH12 to USB 1, you would select number 1 on your computer to get the signal from CH12.
I hope this helps!
Thanks
Alex
@@AllenandHeathUK Hi Alex. Is USB streaming post-fader?
I want to kwon if Allen & Heath 24 can setup on logic pro
Hi RJ, You can use the Qu-24 for both audio and DAW control with Logic. We have made templates for DAW's (including Logic) which are available on our website here (www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/#tab4). Cheers! Keith.
Where I can download the software or driver to the ZED 436, for use on my Mac. Thanks
Hi, Mac drivers are not required for ZED series mixers as they are all Core Audio compliant, making them plug 'n play! Thanks. HG.
Thanks! Keith.
To Allen&Heath: Hey I have to use Pro Tools in order to record my audio from my Qu-32 to my laptop?
+New St. John Fellowship Church You can record up to 18 channels direct to USB media using the onboard Qu-Drive feature. For larger channel counts up to 32, you will need a PC/Mac but you don't have to use Pro Tools. Any ASIO or CoreAudio DAW will work, Mike.
I am useing qu-32, can i stream to DAW all 32 channels at the same time?
Thank you.
Hi Dav,
The Qu-32 has a 32 x 32 USB B interface, so you can indeed stream all 32 input channels to your DAW via USB B.
Thanks! Alex
What program do I download so that I am able to use it as. Playback or use it as a interface
Hi Musician God, The Qu will work with any program that supports CoreAudio, ASIO or WDM drivers. Use with a Mac does not require drivers, and for windows use, just download the latest drivers from our website. Thanks! Keith.
Is there any way you can send me the driver link
does usb streaming and daw controlling all work on Windows 10 with Protools?
+MrGamegast We supply audio and MIDI drivers for use with Windows. Pro Tools only works with protocols such as HUI, Eucon etc. We don't supply a utility for Windows that will convert the Qu MIDI to a protocol that Pro Tools wants so you'll need something like Bomes MIDI Translator to bridge the two together.
+AllenHeath Product Support okay thanks!
🤩👊🏼
Will this work for Sonar?
Hi anthony, Yes, the Qu will show up as a multichannel asio audio device on your computer, so any program that supports asio devices (including Sonar) will work. Cheers! Keith.
What name aplication multi track recording
Hi Rian,
We show the Qu with Pro Tools in this video, but any application that supports ASIO or WDM interfaces should work well with the Qu for audio recording.
Thanks!
Any suggestions on a workaround?
can we record using Pro Tools on a Mac ?
Hi! You can indeed! Thanks, Alex
is qu compatible with Pro tools 11?
Hi Uriah, Qu works great in Pro Tools 9, 10 & 11. No drivers required so just connect via USB-B and the Qu will instantly be recognized by the Mac, select Qu as the playback engine in Pro Tools and you're good to go, M.
Cool thanks
Excuse me , for connect the Zed 22fx ?

Hi Faith Tower, I presume you're asking about the Studio One DAW. The Qu series will run with any DAW that uses ASIO or Core Audio devices, so yes, you can! Cheers, Keith.

the sound of the narrator's stick dry mouth is really hard to sit through.
Hi, I’m going to sound check only 4 channel and for just 30 second-a minute groove recording. Can I use an iPad instead of a laptop? Thanks!
Thanks! Alex
@@AllenandHeathUK Great, I have that. Do you know which app worked well to serve as DAW in iPad? Thanks
Thanks!
What program do I get in my windows computer to do this?
Hi Pedro,
Any program which uses audio can be used with Qu. However, to record and playback multi-tracks, you will need to use a DAW which can route the audio in this way.
Thanks! Alex
What program do you recommend
Hi Pedro,
Unfortunately, I can't officially recommend a specific DAW for you. However, most DAW's will work well with the Qu series.
Thanks! Alex
