I'm watching this video to learn about DID, and I was wondering what does it feel like? Like does it feel like completely different people, or different aspects of the same person? Are you always aware of what's going on, or does it kinda blank out when you're not the one fronting? (Idk if this is rude to ask... I'm really sorry if it's rude, just trying to learn)
@@purplebean7 yeah no worries! Gonna try to answer your questions as best as I can Each system is different. We identify as both DID and OSDD 1 as our system doesn’t perfectly fit into either of those boxes. In our system, it’s a mix of both. Some of our members feel like pieces of eachother where others are completely their own individuals. With DID and OSDD 1-b, each member is completely their own person with their own likes, dislikes, gender, name, etc. In OSDD 1-a, you tend to see members be screenshots of the body at different times. They might share the same name and gender, but one member is Sarah at age 8, one is Sarah at age 4, one is Sarah at age 15 and one is Sarah at age 36. These systems experience blackouts. Over all, it’s better to assume we are parts of a system, not a person. We chose the name Disco System because each reflective shard on a disco ball is needed to brighten up a room, but if all the pieces were to become one you’d just have a weird mirror ball. In OSDD 1-b, you see more distinct alters (name, pronouns, age, likes, dislikes, etc), without memory gaps. They will normally remember what another alter did while they were in the body, even if it feels like a dream since they didn’t do it. Although there’s a million different kinds of amnesia (blackout, greyout, emotional, Retrograde, etc), not every system will experience every kind of amnesia. In DID, each member is very distinct (like in OSDD 1-b), but they experience hard dissociation (blackouts) (like in OSDD 1-a). It’s super important to note a lot of systems have no idea they’re systems. The brain convinces you that it’s normal, or it can convince you that you’re not losing time in the first place. In our system, we have fluctuating levels of amnesia. Sometimes we can know everything that happened when someone else fronted (OSDD 1-B) or we have absolutely no idea and it’s just a black out or SUPER fuzzy (DID and OSDD 1-a). It depends on what happened out here, who was fronting, and how long they were fronting. M and SF have barely any amnesia between them, but BF and SF have extreme amnesia between them. We have this thing called the “inner world”. It’s a place where alters are when they’re not fronting (taking over the body). We all have our own bodies in there for the most part, and can interact with the world similar to how you do out here. It obviously works differently in there (don’t need to drink water for starters), but it’s kinda inbetween a dream and reality. Some members can’t access the inner world, and instead exist in the void. They’re there, but they can’t interact with other members as easily. Sometimes we can only talk to them when they front. Please don’t call out here the “real” world. Our headspace/inner world is real. We live there. If you’re going to refer out here, just use the term “outer world”. There’s something called “co fronting”, where two or more members are taking control of the body. This is where you might hear people say they feel like a different person. If I (a roughly 20 year old fox person who identifies as lesbian) was co fronting with say Druggy (a roughly 30 y/o gay man), I’m gonna feel different. I might find myself attracted to men or wanting to cut our hair short even though I have extremely long hair inside. Members can kinda “blend” or “blur” together when we’re all in front, so figuring out where one alter starts and another ends is really hard. Like a colour gradient between yellow and orange. It’s uncommon (although not impossible) for everyone in a system to know what’s going on all the time. Even in OSDD 1-b (or systems with less to no memory amnesia), we can’t tell what’s going on outside all the time. It’s kinda like having an “inside” brain and an “outside” brain. The inside brain has things like the bodies name, age, the family/friends, house layout, etc. When someone fronts, they get access to that knowledge through the “outside” brain, and stop having that connection when they go inside. It’s important to note this is almost strictly with low amnesia systems (wether the low amnesia is because of the disorder or because of therapy), and not everyone in a system can access that if the brain or another alter says they can’t. I hope this helped! Feel free to ask any more questions
I just like to say at 17:14 it’s kinda hard to say “you have osdd you can’t be polyfrag” since it means different things to different people. Just like how the term “integrate” can mean fusing or becoming aware of your system. 8:09 gets closer. Polyfrag can mean 100+ members, it can mean sub-systems, etc. Polyfrag doesn’t NEED to come from strictly ritual abuse. A system that grew up in war or with an extremely unstable could be polyfrag. Polyfrag DOESNT mean you have an inner world. Plenty of systems have innerworlds that aren’t polyfrag, and plenty of systems DONT have innerworlds and are polyfrag! It’s really hard (and kinda ableist) to try and define polyfrag since different systems will experience (or not experience) being polyfrag differently.

Thank you so much for bringing this up. We have osdd and have called ourselves polyfrag bc we have quite a few sub-systems and an unstable alter count. Also it didn't really justify its statement other than "polyfrag is really complexed and has many fragments". As if osdd itself doesn't have the capability to be extremely complex and to form fragments. -Aina & Era
Thank you! I got a bit annoyed at the "polyfragmentation doesn‘t have anything to do with higher alter counts", because the amount of alters needed to cope is directly correlated with the complexity of the trauma. The average number of alters in a system is 8. Managing 100+ alters is way more complex, just as subsystems and layers are more complex to deal with. The ICD is thinking about naming polyfragmented DID cDID because of their more complex nature.
