Tom Verlaine a vastly underrated and deceptively simple guitarist, producer and arranger......a unique and heartfelt writer.......he makes frickin great records. Thank you Mr Verlaine.
Sadly nothing he made came close to 'Marquee Moon' but then that is a stupendous, underrated record as great lyrically as it is sonically. I still listen to it often with enormous pleasure.
If you hear this and you kinda don't feel it--maybe the instrumentation, or the production--this was life before digital. This was before every sound could be manipulated beyond any recognition of source. This is what CBGB and Max's KC (and plenty of other clubs) sounded like, not some Instagram fantasy. And not like the sound or production quality are slacking, because that's not at all the case.
