      Same here! I was lucky enough to catch DBT a couple times between 03 and 04, and Isabel’s songs always stood out. Decoration Day, Outfit etc.
      He’s a wonderful songwriter!

      @@SubtleHustle72 you have to mention TVA. That song hits so hard since my father came down with dementia. We used to fish all the time and when I got older I didn't and now he can't (quote from the song). Makes me thank God for the TVA (or CCC in my area).

    Been a fan of Jason since his Truckers days. It has been remarkable watching him fly, then fall, then pick himself up again and go from strength to strength. He’s not only an American national treasure, he’s a global treasure.

      Just saw them live at Radio City. Legitimately one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They rocked out hard on some songs and at the end of this song specifically he played a three minute guitar solo in which he absolutely shredded along with the other guitarist.

    Aside from this amazon corruption in the comment section, it's good to see Jason and the 400 get this exposure on Colbert. This is real American music. Poetry in motion. Thanks host Stephan Colbert. Maybe people will stop saying Jason who when I talk about my appreciation for this guy. I even had one person say, "do you mean Jason Aldean?" Hell no!!

    I'll bet there are a ton of rock folks who haven't given them a listen because of the "Americana" or countryish label. Man, they're missing out--the guitar chops in this band is fucking ridiculous. Weathervanes especially is a rock and roll instant classic.

      Yeah, it's easily his best work since Southeastern. The songwriting is so good on this record, and the playing and production is there to match. He'd lost me for a little while, but I'm back with this effort.

    I love that "skillet" won, but there are 7 songs i loved more on this album. This might be #1. Miles is right there too.

    I know they had to cut the song for TV but I miss the :30 sec intro and the bridge between the first and second verse on the original. The tempo is off and it takes away from the impact of these incredible lyrics, which is too bad.

    Thank heavens there are still singers like Jason Isbell whose lyrics are intelligent and socially conscious. Hopefully this music will outlast the plastic Taylor Swift-Justin Bieber rubbish. Only time will tell. in the meantime, Braco Jason Isbell!!

    Partial Isbell/Bill Smith fan here, listened to his stuff here and there since his days with the Truckers. Gotta say, some of his stuff clicks for me, some of it really doesn't. This song didn't do anything for me until he and Sadler got to rip some sick solos at the end. I think I like him more as a player than as a songwriter. Also, that's Will FUCKIN' Johnson to his right. You wanna talk Best Songwriters Ever...? Give Will the mic🔥
