Same here! I was lucky enough to catch DBT a couple times between 03 and 04, and Isabel’s songs always stood out. Decoration Day, Outfit etc. He’s a wonderful songwriter!
@@SubtleHustle72 he's improverd in so many ways as a songwriter, but songs like Deocration Day, Outfit, TVA, Razor Town, GDLL show that he was always an absolute ace at this
@@SubtleHustle72 you have to mention TVA. That song hits so hard since my father came down with dementia. We used to fish all the time and when I got older I didn't and now he can't (quote from the song). Makes me thank God for the TVA (or CCC in my area).
Been a fan of Jason since his Truckers days. It has been remarkable watching him fly, then fall, then pick himself up again and go from strength to strength. He’s not only an American national treasure, he’s a global treasure.
This is the first time I have heard Jason Isbell. What just happened? I feel like I just took a ride on that fabulous guitar and the lyrics tell the story of so many, too many, men. 🥲
Just saw them live at Radio City. Legitimately one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They rocked out hard on some songs and at the end of this song specifically he played a three minute guitar solo in which he absolutely shredded along with the other guitarist.
To all who are fighting addiction or mental health issues, this random lady is rooting for you. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Aside from this amazon corruption in the comment section, it's good to see Jason and the 400 get this exposure on Colbert. This is real American music. Poetry in motion. Thanks host Stephan Colbert. Maybe people will stop saying Jason who when I talk about my appreciation for this guy. I even had one person say, "do you mean Jason Aldean?" Hell no!!
I'll bet there are a ton of rock folks who haven't given them a listen because of the "Americana" or countryish label. Man, they're missing out--the guitar chops in this band is fucking ridiculous. Weathervanes especially is a rock and roll instant classic.
Yeah, it's easily his best work since Southeastern. The songwriting is so good on this record, and the playing and production is there to match. He'd lost me for a little while, but I'm back with this effort.
I know they had to cut the song for TV but I miss the :30 sec intro and the bridge between the first and second verse on the original. The tempo is off and it takes away from the impact of these incredible lyrics, which is too bad.
Thank heavens there are still singers like Jason Isbell whose lyrics are intelligent and socially conscious. Hopefully this music will outlast the plastic Taylor Swift-Justin Bieber rubbish. Only time will tell. in the meantime, Braco Jason Isbell!!
Partial Isbell/Bill Smith fan here, listened to his stuff here and there since his days with the Truckers. Gotta say, some of his stuff clicks for me, some of it really doesn't. This song didn't do anything for me until he and Sadler got to rip some sick solos at the end. I think I like him more as a player than as a songwriter. Also, that's Will FUCKIN' Johnson to his right. You wanna talk Best Songwriters Ever...? Give Will the mic🔥

The best song writer on the planet right now, hands down.
Since we lost Tom Petty, I totally agree!
Absolutely.
And a beast on guitar
Complete agreement
Second best....hey but that's still pretty good!😮
Every single word Isbell writes is carefully chosen and evokes a detailed, intimate view. Brilliant.
"24 Frames" is one of my favorite songs of the past several years.
@@BetsyDudash I find it hard to pick a favorite. An embarrassment of riches when it comes to Isbell's writing.
He is a Painter!! No Doubt I Have Loved Him For So Long!!!
I've been an Isbell fan since he was in the Drive-by Truckers...... genuine national treasure!

Some of DBTs best songs! I am so happy my dad exposed me to them as a kid I've been able to follow his whole career. Hands down my favorite artist

He saved that band, even though it nearly costs him everything spiritually. I think that's why Patterson and Cooley still love him and respect him.

Jason Isbell is carrying John Prine's legacy. Thanks colbert
Jason would love this comment.
??? Name one John Prine song that sounds particluarly like this? Not exactly Sam Stone, Donald & Lydia, Paradise, or Fish and Whistle.
Jason Isbell is a master of his craft just true genius
Wow. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve heard of Isbell. Spectacular talent musically and the lyrics are amazing. Again. Wow.
Dive into his catalog. Incredible song after incredible song.
Every song he writes is a masterpiece. "If we were vampires" is my own favorite.
Oh man. You are, in some ways, so lucky. You have such an incredible treasure trove of amazing news ahead of you to explore for the first time.
Enjoy the journey of discovery. He's one of the best in the biz at the moment
i'm so happy for you haha you have so much enjoyment ahead of you with his catalog. LFG!
Whoa...totally freaked out because Sadler's on the "wrong" side of the stage, and Dery's stuck in the back!
Yep. That threw me off as well

His catalog is full of incredible storytelling and songwriting. You’re about to have fun!
You discovered the best living songwriters. Check him out!
Please see him in concert, especially if his wife Amanda Shires is playing! Bonus!!!
Pick up his album Southwester, best album of the 2000's in my opinion.

Glad to see Will Johnson in the 400 unit. Really good guy.
Great songs don't tell you how to feel, they just make you feel it.
Ok these guys are for real. Vocals, instruments, arrangement, lyrics and execution.

This album punches you in the gut from the first track and doesn't let up

Will Johnson from the great Centro-matic on the acoustic. Happy to see him added to the band. He's an amazing song writer (just like Jason).
My favorite song on the album! Weathervanes is every bit as good as Southerstern. Never stop, Jason
Weathervanes is superb. Not a bad track on it.

What a great band. Phenomenal song.
Always great. Had a nice Crazy Horse vibe there at the end! 🙏
The closing song on this album, Weathervanes is an homage to Crazy Horse. It's in the ljner notes.
He Paints Pictures that We All Have Lived!! Like A Aural Norman Rockwell!
Hope people go listen to the studio version of this song. It’s absolutely beautiful!!! This was great!
Good lord this song hits hard. Worthy of the DBT’s.
Truly great song writer.
Hard to find musicians like Jason today.
He gets better and better and is a star!
This sounds like a song Neil Young decided not to include on Harvest. What a great tune.
"children of children" also rings a lot of Neil Young too imo.
first time for this song Good God Almighty Great Stuff Cheers
I really like his song called 24 frames
It's one of my all-time favorites!
"Ol Jason really puts his back into it, doesn't he?!
Pretty sure he IS the lyrical genius of our time! And I dig it
Wow, they are amazing!!
F the AMA59K, I like the 400 Unit !
Amazing performance!
The best.
So Wet Leg and this band both represent the Mustang Bass !
Thank god people are still making good music despite the music industry churning out hot garbage.
Great song and playing.
Master version of this on ACL…multiple epic solos 👍
He writes as good as John Prine
Shortening to song to allow for the solos at the end. 🐐
Absolute real deal
Wonderful albums
Killer live
Perfecto
Incredible band, best of the best
1st time seeing yous on Colbert, bravo 👏 🙌
Perfect performance
Bummer that they cut so many of the great instrumental breaks from this version. That intro riff is fantastic
That was pretty rude I thought 😮
Here’s to wishing best for Jimbo, miss him, hope he’s doing well!
Absolutely beautiful. Fact ?
Mind blown!
Awesome!
I love that "skillet" won, but there are 7 songs i loved more on this album. This might be #1. Miles is right there too.
I know they had to cut the song for TV but I miss the :30 sec intro and the bridge between the first and second verse on the original. The tempo is off and it takes away from the impact of these incredible lyrics, which is too bad.

So weird to hear what is in effect a "single" edit. Still a phenomenal song and performance, though.
Really nice solo.
Gives me some Neil Young, crime in the city vibes. Awesome song
Wow they cut his song time up bad
Fantastic band and songwriter. This song reminds me of Wilco somewhat.
The great Will Johnson on guitar
Sadler's on the other side!

Shame they had to truncate this big time for TV but still rocked it
Anna Butterrs is really freaking cool.

Jimbo took a break for mental health reasons and then a few months later he announced that he was no longer in the 400 Unit.
Over used compliment, but this guy is a storyteller (yes, i stole that from smartless)
Will Johnson playing rythm guitar.

Heard through the grapevine that Amazons AMA59K will be part of an upcoming major event. Any truth to that?
