Awful? I don't see it that way at all. Since 2018 they've been hitting on great pickups to round out their roster: 2018: Mike McGlinchey (T) 9th overall, Fred Warner (LB) 70th pick, DJ Reed (CB) 142nd pick 2019: Nick Bosa (DE) 2nd overall, Deebo Samuel (WR) 36th pick, Dre Greenlaw (LB) 148th pick 2020: Brandon Aiyuk (WR) 25th pick, Jauan Jennings (WR) 217th pick 2021: Deommodore Lenoir (DB) 172nd pick, Talanoa Hufanga (DB) 180th pick 2022: Drake Jackson (OLB) 61st pick, Brock Purdy (QB) last pick of the draft #262 2023: Ji'Ayir Brown (DB) 87th pick, Jake Moody (K) 99th pick 2024: Ricky Pearsall (WR) 31st overall, Dominick Puni (G) 86th pick, Malik Mustapha (DB) 124th pick, Isaac Guerendo (RB) 129th pick That's not a bad haul outside of the disastrous pick and dumping of multiple first round picks for Trey Lance. They didn't have a lot of early draft stock in three of those drafts (see trade deal above), but still found some late round gems to round out their roster. They were able to snag mega contracts with guys like Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams in trades, and brought in Chase Young last season but couldn't afford to keep him. If they had won a single Super Bowl title in this time frame above, people would be looking on this front office very differently. But due to injuries, contract holdouts, that wild swing on an inferior QB, and bizarre underperformance by the coaches in critical games, the 9ers have painted themselves into a corner with so many big payouts coming due during a window when they should be in contention for Lombardis. Now they're looking up at the NFC West table with a 1% chance of making the playoffs at all.
When you get paid less than most QBs taxes. And you go to 3 NFCCG and 1 SB. You name your price. Niners don’t wanna go to get a QB from the draft. There’s plenty of film on Darnold to know he’s not the guy. Pay the man!

well, he's better than Dak, Tua and Jordan Love so yeah he is worth it. Where you are drafted means nothing in the league. You perform or you don't, and Purdy has performed at a very level. Is he perfect? Of course not. All I'm saying is no one complained when they paid Jordan Love a high-end contract coming off of a bone headed pick that kicked his team out of the playoffs last year, while having only played one year. Purdy went toe to toe with mahomes in the superbowl, he has broken passer rating records and shown the ability to elevate everyone around him to their career highest numbers. The niners aren't stupid enough to entertain not paying him.
@@byronsmith3152 He has been? Did Love have six all pro's on his offense? Purdy had a bad year, period. Sherm the playoff argument is solid, but I just don’t see how you can pay a quarterback top of the level market money when finishing with a losing season and missing the playoffs and throwing interceptions in critical moments, not to mention all the injuries he had to his throwing arm
Hey sherminator with all due respect what do we know what Purdy is worth. My point of view is this for him to be in the position he’s in. Richard, you know better than most people that basing a contract off of APY is purely for vanity. The real worth of a contract is in the fully guaranteed money. We need to stop worrying about APY because teams push it off into void years or backload contracts with "funny money" to inflate APY. Brock will get a big contract and still count for less than $10M next year. Possibly less than 5. Whatever he gets paid is what he gets paid. The market is the market. Also, I'd have to check the updated stats. However, no team has won a SB with the QB accounting for greater than 13% of their teams' salary cap.
no its not. They have historically the worst rest differential of any team EVER. This team has played two straight seasons with the worst rest differential in the league while going far in the playoffs. Its no wonder everyone got hurt.
We have no idea what his market value is because he's not going on the open market. What other team would pay him more than $35-40 million a year? Look at his QB rating in 2024 when playing teams over .500, top 5 money for bottom 10 performance. I'm a die hard Niner fan, btw.
I'd say if Purdy wants to win a title, he will take 41 to 48 million dollars, I don't think he is getting less than 40 million, that's just the market. But we will see what happens down the line.
I think Purdy should absolutely get paid. Maybe $45-$50M a year though. Here's the crux of the problem. You mention all those QB's that are making $50-$60M a year and don't have similar success with title game and superbowl appearances. Could it be because they are getting paid so much that they aren't able to put a team together with enough stars to get to those games? Will the 49ers be able to have enough stars on the team after giving Purdy $55M a year to help bring them back to the playoffs and superbowls?
Personally, I think Purdy will take a team discount to win. $40+ mil. He knows that he can make up the difference with endorsements if he leads the Niners to a Super Bowl win.
@@jamesbohm3690 yeah 40M not going to happen. The players union alone would never allow this, this sets a precedent that sets the players back on getting paid fairly compared to what the owners make. So would never happen just on that alone.
@@johnbull1568 You mean the way Daniel Jones is close to being run out of the sport? I don't see the 49ers paying him $60 mil and I don't blame them. He deserved the MVP last year... no DOUBT!! Pay the MAN he's the face of our franchise QB1... not our year... not on Brock on the team as a whole. Regroup and GO AFTER IT NEXT YEAR!! Give the man his flowers 💐 NOW give him his BAG 💰
Homie Sherman, how has his play been bad, or not good or good enough? WRs are struggling to separate let alone catch the ball, and Trent has been hurt and now injured. The offensive line as a whole have been ruining big plays all year by getting flagged for holding or illegal formations on the offense as a hole. Not to mention the pre snap penalties. What do you want Brock to do? 😅 Purdy is the only reason the Niners “have, or had, a chance to win. The defense didn’t pick up and get it together until the bears game…
Brock Purdy deserves 120 fully guaranteed 30 a year for 4 years. I hate the market is the market that shit so stupid cause if you lose your qb you’re basically playing 55/60 million for nothing that year. Especially cause all these qbs want all this money thinking they’re fucking over owners but realistically they’re fucking over their own fans from going to games cause of how expensive they make tickets after paying their qbs
Player contracts have a minimal impact on the prices at the stadiums given that there is a mandatory spending floor to go along with a salary cap. There are many more factors that go into the cost of attending that are more to do with the local economics and costs than anything else because the majority of the owners income comes from the massive TV deals that they have with the networks pouring BILLIONS of dollars into the league. Paying for quality at the most expensive position (QB) ultimately has little to do with the cost of the game and, if anything, doing so will grant higher exposure for those teams that have star players at those positions, which raise the value of their merch (where the REAL price gouging happens) which increases their profits at the margins. It's smart for teams to lockdown one of 32 QB1s for whatever it takes given their market value and right now the market says the bidding STARTS at $50mil.
That doesn't change the ticket prices. It changes how their team can get paid. Teams have a salary cap AND have to spend 89% of the salary cap over the course of every 4 years. Most teams actually spend closer to high 90's % of the cap. The cap is decided by a percentage of the $ brought in by the league as a whole. What you're paying higher ticket prices for is stadium and facility upgrades and coaches' checks.
It needs to say in their contract, “you have to give it your best every time you step out on that field, you have to play to win”. Ever since they gave Deebo, Brandon Aiyuk and Deommodore Lenoir that big contract, either they suck now or they just don’t play with the same passion as before.
$60 million? He got me exactly 2 points in a fantasy football performance last week. I am out of the playoffs! Money doesn’t mean jack. It is always what have you done for me lately. Geno has the right cost. Purdy geeeeze. I’ve never understood how come a person in charge of drafting for an nfl team never drafts quality players to PROTECT their million dollar quarterback and talk all day about drafting this defensive lineman. We got Murphy, and do you hear about him? No you hear about Williams. One thing Russell was right about, you can’t go to the super bowl gettin sacked almost 400 times. Duh.
Never accept something in a win, you wouldn’t accept with a loss. Going for it on 4th down deep in your territory without a good reason is always bad, regardless if it works.
I'd love to see the 49ers promote QB Tanner Mordecai from the practice squad. He could get some valuable playing time in these last three games. He looks to be the 2nd best QB on the team and he could be the Purdy insurance policy the niners need.
How do people think Campbell doesn't deserve to not be paid? He broke a contract, pretty simple really. Dude should forfeit the rest of his yearly pay and owe whatever is left on his contract and hopefully never play again.
If Purdy is smart, which I would hope he would be, he'll take a team friendly deal and make up the difference doing ads as a winning QB in San Francisco. If his deal screws the team's ability to be successful, those ad deals and sponsorships will dry up.
Stop saying it's a down year. Brock Purdy didn't play in OTA'S and PRESEASON with his teammates. So when you have Patrick Mohames plays in OTA'S and PRESEASON. That's why Patrick Mohames is a champion. Brock Purdy just didn't prepare for this year.
HALLELUJAH!! a rational take about brock purdy. The niners fanbase looks like a bunch of beached fish flip flopping around every other game about brock and its so frustrating and annoying. Beta boys man.
I say yes, I am a hawks fan I can't stand him but thats as a rival thing not as a talent or personal thing. That being said what he has done since taking the helm for 9ers. Yes
I think Purdy's agent has leverage. Show them the tape for the Eagles 49ers NFC Championship game and then tell them that was with a healthy CMC, Trent Williams, Fred Warner, and Greenlaw. Its gonna come down to how much Purdy is willing to take versus something friendlier like 40-50. Dont see 49ers going to 60 so 45-55 is more realistic and how readily playing incentives factor in. 49ers could also force him to play out the year and risk franchise tagging him if necessary. In the long run tho it risks a Kirk Cousins path versus just getting it done or letting it linger into the season like the Aiyuk situation.
I like Purdy but the NFL is going to have to change the salary cap if this trend continues. Purdy buying cars for his crappy Offensive Linemen isn't likely to make them better.
I don’t know Jack about the intricacies of what coaches know but from my pov YES pay Purdy! Dude is humble, a baller, very hard worker and been in the SB. My meager analysis is he plays like he knows the O-line will breakdown too fast and 99% of the time he finds his target in a second or two. Massive. Awesome. Seahawks should bid for him see what happens, he’d probably be real successful in Macdonald’s system too go Hawks😁
My question is this. Why do agents think they have the right to just reset the market every single time? And my answer would be that these gms do not have a pair of nuts on them, and are scared to make the wrong move. If i was a DB on the jaguars, frankly id be pissed and leave to another team to get payed.
How is the quarterback gonna say he has a vision for the team to win and wants the team to win, then go ahead and take 24% of the cap with no consideration for the build of the roster
There's no way the QB who has been making conference championships and Super Bowl while making less than a million should be taking anything under what the market is and if the market for starting QBs with a resume is 50-55 mill then he needs to be getting paid 50-55 mill nothing less nothing more
I swear I love Purdy and have been on the band wagon. But if he’s asking for 60 million? I thought he’s humble and a Christian and I thought he would take less to help us out like Tom Brady. I say he’s worth 50 million
50 million a year for Brock?? Hell no. He’s a middle of the pack as a quarterback. I would have a hard time giving Brock 15 million a year. He’s decent no lie but he’s not good or great he’s alright but come on now 💯💯

There is only so much 1 guy can do and I’m not sure how much better he could perform. I can’t think of a single QB who has equaled his handling of that level of pressure and still perform at all. Geno Smith is an enigma unto himself. ✌️
If dak is worth 60, Brock is worth 90
No
No, dak wasn’t even worth 60 to begin with
Brock is our guy
GO NINERS 🇺🇸
Nether one is worth more than $30 Million. Only Mahomes and Allen deserve the top echelon money. Maybe also Stafford.
@@stuartdamon3610 STafford was hot garbage without his 2 receivers. Go and look up Stafford's play recently. The ONLY reason he won a SB was because of his defense.
Brock deserves what the market dictates. He has more success in the playoffs then Tua, Dak, Trevor who just got paid. Good for him.
Stop spamming
Always a great pod w/great straight forward information given w/a flare and style. 1000% on point regarding the De’Vondre Campbell situation. It's sad to me he got so frustrated that he felt he needed to do that. Like Sherm said, "You can't do it." A choice made that will have lasting poor consequences. I appreciate you Sherm!
What a great way to put it into perspective Sherm damn I hope you become a coach for the 9ers one day
He’s worth what they are willing to pay him
As for Parsons, Jerry always, and I mean ALWAYS, moans and groans about paying his stars and pretends he’s going to play hardball with them. But at the end of the day Jerry always, ALWAYS pays his stars. There is ZERO chance that they’re letting Parsons out of that building. Zero.
At the end of the day, Jerry is the biggest softie of them all when it comes to star players drafted by the Cowboys.
Imagine being Purdy this off-season. Going from approx $700-800k per year to $50M+ 😊
50+ and that'll be his last contract with the Niners.
@@Klust413 Why do you think that?
@@byronsmith3152 It'll absolutely obliterate the team's ability to hold onto talent, and drafts have been bad lately. Combine those and it'll hollow out the team, and ruin Purdy's complementary players, which will make him look bad, which will then put him in position to get replaced for not being able to carry with the paycheck.
@@Klust413 Then you are not really paying attention. Almost the entire offense is still under contract and will be for a few years. Now does that allow the Niners to resign guys like War to big contracts, of course not. But every team deals with this no matter what they pay the QB. Signing Purdy still leaves you with CMC, Kittle, BA, Deebo, Jennigns, Williams. SO waht exactly do they lose? Deebo getting re-signed to another big contract? CMC to another after he turns 30? Kittle signing a record deal north of 30? Williams going on 40 in 2 years? Meanwhile, you have Ricky under contract for 4 more years. You have Issac under contract for another 3 years. Cowing is there as well. Puni on his rookie deal as well.
@byronsmith3152 Deebo's on his way out, Aiyuk is a major question mark after his injury and wasn't great before it (got overpaid when he should have been traded), Kittle isn't getting younger, CMC is a dice roll his whole career I was amazed we got basically a full season of over use from, Trent's likely done within 2 years 3 on the high end, Pearsall was an overreach (bad one at that), and Cowing has been mid. Most of the line outside of Trent and Puni is subpar.
Why are fans concerned about another man’s money regarding how much he should make and shouldn’t. That’s between Him, agent and Niners
I have a say over how Jed York spends my money.
He deserves whatever the market value is - in other words what another team is willing to pay Brock to move to their team.
No other team is going to pay last pick of the draft noodle arm short 15 TD 9 INT who got exposed since Ravens game and no OPOY to carry him 50+ mil, I guarantee you that unless that want to become the next NY giants with 2-11 Daniel Jones or Trevor Lawrence
@@ightimmaheadout290 Maybe, maybe not $50 million. Geno Smith is making $28 million, Cousins is $40 million and next year if you can believe it Derek Carr is going to get $51 million.. Dak's getting $60 million next year. Didn't help with Brandon Aiyuk getting injured after sitting out. At the very least the 49ers are going to have to tag Brock. By the way who else is going to play QB next year for San Fran? I hear Jamis Winston might be available. 😁
@@johnfbm Dak and Cousins robbed their franchise and they will never get past first round exits, so I hope niners learn from their mistakes and not overpay mid QBs, so they gotta draft new QB if Brock is asking for too much, even 50 is an overpay
@@ightimmaheadout290 Yes they did and no they didn't learn - still comes down to if there is a better option - guess they could get Darnold back. . . for $50 million if the Vikings don't tag him. 😁
$40 mil maybe $47 the most. If they give him max $60+ might as well trade everyone
That's a good deal in my opinion 👌
@@Miguelon88888 he’s good but he ain’t josh allen good or even Joe Burrow good
@hs4a085 I agree but they are not going to pay him less than the franchise tag wich is about 40 million.
Great take Sherm! Levelheaded and fact based.
50-60 mil he deserves. Best thing to happen to the niners in a long time.
The 'Pay Purdy Elite Money' argument is getting weaker and weaker to me, 9'ers fan here
You mean the argument against paying him?
Let's put it this way, if Purdy didn't exist then Lynch and/or Shanahan would've been gone by now. If not because their overall draft record has been awful for years now, then the Trey Lance draft/tradeup situation on its own 🙄😮💨
I used to believe this now I'm not so sure. Depends who they would get in 2022. That team was so loaded it would be hard to fuck up completely
Facts Don
Awful? I don't see it that way at all. Since 2018 they've been hitting on great pickups to round out their roster:
2018: Mike McGlinchey (T) 9th overall, Fred Warner (LB) 70th pick, DJ Reed (CB) 142nd pick
2019: Nick Bosa (DE) 2nd overall, Deebo Samuel (WR) 36th pick, Dre Greenlaw (LB) 148th pick
2020: Brandon Aiyuk (WR) 25th pick, Jauan Jennings (WR) 217th pick
2021: Deommodore Lenoir (DB) 172nd pick, Talanoa Hufanga (DB) 180th pick
2022: Drake Jackson (OLB) 61st pick, Brock Purdy (QB) last pick of the draft #262
2023: Ji'Ayir Brown (DB) 87th pick, Jake Moody (K) 99th pick
2024: Ricky Pearsall (WR) 31st overall, Dominick Puni (G) 86th pick, Malik Mustapha (DB) 124th pick, Isaac Guerendo (RB) 129th pick
That's not a bad haul outside of the disastrous pick and dumping of multiple first round picks for Trey Lance.
McGlinchey was terrible@@BrokeredHeart

@@stephenneil9345 Yes!
Hell yeah he does , if dak is the highest paid paid QB then purdy deserves 2twice as much
When you get paid less than most QBs taxes. And you go to 3 NFCCG and 1 SB. You name your price. Niners don’t wanna go to get a QB from the draft. There’s plenty of film on Darnold to know he’s not the guy. Pay the man!
Why not, put all of your eggs in one basket. That's never burned anyone, ever....
What do you recommend? There needs to be loyalty somewhere.
@@andrewb9708 How is paying him that money hurting the team? BA, CMC, Kittle, WIlliams Deebo, and Jennings are all under contract going forward. If a team like Philly can afford to pay Hurts, Brown, Smith and still bring in Barkley, the Niners will be just fine.
@@byronsmith3152 If you're curious how that can negatively impact a team, look up the salary cap. Look up Dak Prescott if you want a case example.
well, he's better than Dak, Tua and Jordan Love so yeah he is worth it.
Better than Jordan Love? 😂😂😂
@@andrewb9708 Actually yes he has been. Love has also been in the league twice as long. So there is that.
@@byronsmith3152 He has been? Did Love have six all pro's on his offense? Purdy had a bad year, period. We've seen poor judgment on numerous occasions, inaccurate, errant throws and holding the ball longer than last year. Poor pocket awareness and execution when it breaks down. It's pretty simple, if a player is showing obvious and quantifiable decline, that's not the time to give them 25% of your salary cap.
49ers fans are so hot and cold… they want to say that purdy is a top 3-5 QB… but then want to pay him like he’s 15-20 🤡

Aye, Sherm. Love ya & since you said you read every comment. (Highly doubt it)
Since you support Purdy a lot, why don't you call out his haters? Like you did for Dan Campbell? Shannon & Ocho seems to dislike him. Lol
Nick wright & Colin HATES the young boy.
Put money where your mouth is at & call em out.
Sherm the playoff argument is solid, but I just don’t see how you can pay a quarterback top of the level market money when finishing with a losing season and missing the playoffs and throwing interceptions in critical moments, not to mention all the injuries he had to his throwing arm
Uncle Sherm! ❤
Hey sherminator with all due respect what do we know what Purdy is worth. My point of view is this for him to be in the position he’s in. If we won one of the 2 superbowls id say yes but damn injuries have been our kryptonite. I’ve been a niner since 93 and I admit I had hate for you sherminator you shredded us and Crabtree. That’s water under the bridge. Love ❤❤❤ you joined us and unfortunately we couldn’t obtain a ring. I ❤❤❤❤ your podcast. Saludos desde trititties Washington. But I live in Milton Freewater Oregon. Hi Sherman ❤😂
Sherm
On the league topic.
Do you find it strange that the 49ers faced 4 teams coming off a bye week
-Is that? normal
no its not. They have historically the worst rest differential of any team EVER. This team has played two straight seasons with the worst rest differential in the league while going far in the playoffs. Its no wonder everyone got hurt.
THE MAX PERIOD!!!!
40 tops. Guarantee 80/90.
Fans are bitter right now but he deserves market value and it’s going to be a good amount.
We have no idea what his market value is because he's not going on the open market. What other team would pay him more than $35-40 million a year? Look at his QB rating in 2024 when playing teams over .500, top 5 money for bottom 10 performance. I'm a die hard Niner fan, btw.
Pay the man
I love purdy but 35-40 mill range
QB value to a franchise is based on both what he does on the field and his marketability.
Personally, I think Purdy will take a team discount to win. $40+ mil. He knows that he can make up the difference with endorsements if he leads the Niners to a Super Bowl win.
Reports say he expects to be paid 60
@@jamesbohm3690 yeah 40M not going to happen. The players union alone would never allow this, this sets a precedent that sets the players back on getting paid fairly compared to what the owners make. So would never happen just on that alone.
@@mstar034 And any agent that allows him to take Daniel Jones level money before he's financially secure should be run out of the sport.
@@johnbull1568 You mean the way Daniel Jones is close to being run out of the sport? I don't see the 49ers paying him $60 mil and I don't blame them. Let him play out his last year next year or he can be traded. They can also let him field offers from other teams. I don't forsee any teams offering him $60 million.
Imagine you taking a salary cut because your team did their jobs.
I think paying Brock purdy 5 years 200m with high guarantee. That should help us out keeping our top players.
if purdy wasnt who he is kyle and john would not have been in the superbowl
Homie Sherman, how has his play been bad, or not good or good enough? WRs are struggling to separate let alone catch the ball, and Trent has been hurt and now injured. The offensive line as a whole have been ruining big plays all year by getting flagged for holding or illegal formations on the offense as a hole. Not to mention the pre snap penalties. What do you want Brock to do? 😅 Purdy is the only reason the Niners “have, or had, a chance to win. The defense didn’t pick up and get it together until the bears game…
Numero uno !!
I AGREE WITH RICHARD.
LETS CONTINUE BUILDING AROUND GLOCK PURDY
GO NINERS 🇺🇸
Purdy is worth what ever the 49ers are willing to pay and what Purdy feels is fair. My guess, around $53-55 million with significant guaranteed $$
I'm thinking $45 million, team friendly and allows the team to still build and fill positions of need..
You pay him 60 million its going to cost the 9ers a lot of their other good players unfortunately
Purdy play ok, but his deep ball scares me. The ball flows for grab when he throw. Purdy is worth $30M-$35M. If you ask me that’s better than $800k.
Pay the man his money he deserves it!!
Brock Purdy just didn't prepare for this year.
wtf you talking about? purdy did play in OTAS and PRESEASON
HALLELUJAH!! a rational take about brock purdy. The niners fanbase looks like a bunch of beached fish flip flopping around every other game about brock and its so frustrating and annoying. Beta boys man.
As a Seahawk fan, please, please pay the weak armed Purdy $60 million. Dudu is a facilitator Sherm he has one of the weakest arm in the NFL
and the weak armed purdy is 5-1 against the seahawks
Resign Greenlaw and Hufanga also restructure the interior Defensive Line...
I say yes, I am a hawks fan I can't stand him but thats as a rival thing not as a talent or personal thing. That being said what he has done since taking the helm for 9ers. Yes
Definitely at least 60 million. Eat that cap space. Go Hawks!
$50-60mil 💯
He deserves that money more than Dak that’s for sure
Geno no overpay
Love the analogy with the 3 point shot. DAN HAS YHE FEAST OR FAMINE MINDSET WHEN IT WORKS YOU ARE AWESOME BUT WHEN IT DOESNT YOU ARE HORRIBLE
He has grit. Don’t know if this year’s adversity was character building for him, if so,Shannan will be in a better position to know,
No, he’s not. I don’t think any qbs are unless you’re truly special. Especially if you want to field a good team
Short answer "No"
Long answer "Noooooooooooo"
Brock Purdy is worth between $35-$45 million.
Sure, to some teams. But, you won’t have that defensive talent around him to support him anymore if that happens.
Purdy has done his part, above and beyond expectation. The sad part is how teams leverage team members against each other come pay check time
50 million a year for Brock?? Hell no. He’s a middle of the pack as a quarterback. I would have a hard time giving Brock 15 million a year. He’s decent no lie but he’s not good or great he’s alright but come on now 💯💯
Get Wilson if Purdy wants too much money….
They will only pay them amongst his drafting number he will make 15 to 20 million because he was drafted last
I hope the niners pay Purdy $60 mill a year! Along with BA’s $30 mill, the future looks bright for the Hawks lol😂
