"I can save both of you."
Rule 1: The Doctor lies. :(
(Your comment reminded me of a scene near the end of "The Wedding of River Song".)
Rory: "River -- are you sure? Are you properly sure?"
River: "Of course I am! I'm his wife!"
Amy: "Yes! And I'm his ... mother-in-law."
River: "Father dear ... I think Mummy might need another drink."

I saw a similar comment that was based off a fic someone was writing. “Rule number one, don’t wander off alone. Rule number two, the Doctor lies. And rule number three. It’s an unspoken rule not even the Doctor knows about. The Doctor must never travel alone.”
Rory “ Two Amy’s together... Can that work? “
Doctor “ I don’t know it’s your marriage “
Makes me laugh every time 😂😂😂
Remember the 2011 Comic Relief specials "Space" and "Time"?
THE DOCTOR: Ohhh, this is how it all ends, Pond flirting with herself. True love at last. Oh, sorry, Rory.
RORY: Absolutely no problem at all.
Imagine if "silence in the library" River met "let's kill hitler" River
It would be another story right?
Doctor: Two Amy Ponds, forever, then what would you do?
Rory: ...
I'm always sad in that bit, you can see in the doctor's eyes that he already knows.
Yvonne Lily get rid of that apostrophe!
Knowing that the Doctor never intends to let Old Amy live makes this episode a totally different story when you watch his scenes in the TARDIS. He thinks to see if he can rescue them both, realizes he can't, then realizes he can still rescue Amy and Rory but only if he tricks them.
I’ve always thought this is why Rory doesn’t have faith in anything in The God Complex. This broke his faith in the Doctor.
11's facial expression makes a lot of sense knowing things in retrospect.
The Doctor know only one of them can live ... he leaves the decision up to Rory .. knowing that whatever he decides he knows Rory will know it's the wrong one ...
well having Amy and his future daughter call him gay and bully him as a child to his early 20's would destroy anyones faith in anything.
"It's hardly rocket science it's quantum physics"

the moment she realised she couldnt go was so sad
"What's the nasty Amy done to you? Just calm down, dear. Hang on in there, eh?" I love the way the Doctor speaks to the TARDIS.
I love that the doctor keeps talking like he’s trying to stop himself from talking, but realizes he’s gotten their hopes up, so all he can do is trick them now. It’s so brilliantly shown with the doctor saying “…yes I could.” And then he instantly hesitates
Rory: "Doctor, what's wrong?"
The doctor: "Your wives have broken time, Rory... Amelia Ponds - universe-destroying flirts. Why am I not surprised?"
This episode cemented in my mind that Karen Gillan is an insanely epic actress. It is still one of my favorite episodes, even though I hated the way it ended. I wanted so badly for the Doctor to somehow save them both. The fact that older Amy still loves Rory after so long, is one of televisions greatest love stories. I still wish it had ended differently.
Insanely epic
I feel like they should have rescued the old Amy. Would have made more sense and led to more interesting future episodes. Also having an actual consequence to something in an episode meaning something long term.
The older Amy was of no use to be alive. She was not sexually attractive to men anymore and maybe sterile as well, or only able to give birth to deformed babies...
Amy after all she's been though, all she's faced, without Rory .. is exactly the same .... just like the Last Centurion ...
In 40-something years, we're going to be comparing older Amy to older Karen.
Makes me hope they can save Older Amy some day and older Karen will want to play her. A future Doctor could swoop in and save her at the last moment, after all it's not the first time they've stabilised a paradox.
@@shan4680 that would be very shoehorned in to tie up what wasn't even a plot hole
@@tomkenning5482 I never said it was a plot hole. I just thought it would be a nice thing to do to save someone from being deleted from existence. It's not like they haven't used a Paradox Engine before in Doctor Who.
@@shan4680 It'd be nice, but I reckon it'd remove the emotional punch from this episode
Unless she's one of those actors who never age somehow.
The expression the Dr makes when Rory asks about 2 Amy's, very brief but let's you know he knows better than what he said, I also love the fact that Rory is always a little surprised by the fact Amy loves him as much as he loves her as a guy whose 30th anniversary is coming up I completely get it
There's always that thought in the back of your mind: "She deserves someone so much better than me."
My very favorite Karen Gillan episode. She does an amazing job being the older Amy. And what an emotional rollercoaster ..... "Interface, show me Earth. Show me home".
ah, back when the tardis actually had stuff in it
If by "stuff" you mean "talent"
You saying Graham doesn’t excrete pure talent?
@@danialshamshuddin Graham does actually have a pretty good character arc, but when that isn't the main focus of the show (and more importantly when there are three other main characters) it doesn't have much time to develop.
@@xxxdumbwordstupidnumberxxx4844 I know. He's much more interesting than most of the characters. Old people make the best characters in Doctor Who.
@@danialshamshuddin He's like a less comedic, more serious Wilf Mott. I don't even mean that as an insult.
I have always loved the fact they think about their first kiss with Rory and his reaction to it.
Guess these two Amys can't exactly flirt with each other like in the 2011 Comic Relief specials "Space" and "Time" as they're 36 years apart and can't agree on who's Amy 1.
Andrew Chapman yeah
Both are a paradox so, yeah ^^!
@@dragonslayerornstein387 False, Space and Time was not a paradox.
@cak01vej Except it's not a paradox. A cause B, B causes A. It's consistent and doesn't break itself. It's just a closed time loop.
@cak01vej A paradox is a contradiction. There is no contradiction here. A causes B. B causes A. There is your answer.
Compare that to the Grand Father paradox, where A causes B, and B prevents A. There is a contradiction as the two states cannot be simultaneously true.
Rory waited 2,000 years for Amy... and she gets upset over 40 years?
tbf that was his desison, she was there by accident and thought she'd been abandoned. But you make a good point.
@Hazmarlo Even though he was made of machine he was still human. He protected and waited 2,000 years for her. Amy has no right to be angry at Rory for an accident. He already proved his commitment to her. ruclips.net/video/lKzghr7Aw_U/видео.html
Rory had something to work towards, he had a goal and a purpose and sometimes that's all you need to carry yourself forward. Amy had none of that, from her perspective she was abandoned, left without hope of rescue alone as she continued to grow old.
@@triclopsgamer5934 You clearly do not possess the ability to have an empathy for a person or look at it from their view.
@@BoSpankle It makes sense that Amy would be angry at he Doctor. After all he was the reason she wound up there. But She has no right to be angry at Rory. He didnt have any control over that. Rory has already proven his love for her. Thats 2,000 years of loyalty to one woman.(Think of how lonely he must have gotten)Though he was physically an auton and did not age he could still die and he had a human heart. This episode was so sad 😞
When the Doctor was talking about sustaining the paradox, I think I hallucinated his face aging. Really creepy.

Karen Is a movie star now doubtful she'll ever come back to the doctor
The only thing better than Amy... Two Amys.
...because my old heart couldn't take it ❤❤❤
Great story, great acting, great writing. One other great thing, too - the Old Amy makeup is the best age makeup I've ever seen; it really looks like a 60 year old Karen Gillan, rather than a young actress wearing prosthetics.
Mmmm without any gray hairs though?
They both waited for each other
Rory and Amy. THE greatest love story across all of time and space. No wonder the Dr loves humanity.
I like Amy and Rory, better than Rose and Mickey
But the Doctor and Clara is a greater love story
"The wife and the wife. Right. Right." 0:42 This is so like Rory - hand him complete unimaginable chaos and he just shrugs like it's an ordinary day and deals with it.
Well, he has ancient Roman training and 2000 years of incorrect Earth history he lived through in his head, he's probably used to chaos
This episode is so fantastic, unbelievably well done and well structured. Even small details like older amy talks slightly slower than normal Amy.
Older Amy also has a deeper voice.
And she’s slightly shorter.
Best Amy episode ever. Was not keen on Amy but this showed Gillian’s real acting cred!
No one will ever convince me there was a better doctor / companion duo.
Two karen Gillans seems common now, Doctor who, avengers
I got really teary eyed watching this episode. Thank you creators for producing such quality show
It would have been so interesting if the older Amy was actually able to go with them. That way even after the Angels Take Manhattan he'd still have an Amy to Travel with.
OmegaChance27 he said amy could have. But it would have created a massive paradox and cause an even bigger issue. Unless you had the Master’s cannibalized Paradox Machine anywho...
I always wondered couldnt amy just travel to a different city like 2 or 3 years later and the doctor could go back there an take her?
@@muratkahraman8743 He could have. But they didn't for plot points
@@muratkahraman8743 Are you talking about in the angels take Manhattan? From my understanding, 1) from the Doctors perspective both Amy and Rory had already lived out there entire lives. That meant their lives were history and he couldn’t go back and change that. MAYBE if he had gone with them then they could have figured out something together step by step, but he couldn’t straight up go back in time and save the life of someone who’s grave he was staring at. 2) To my knowledge the Angels create a closed time loop when send someone back. I mean that is how they feed (off of the time of someones entire life), so it wouldn’t make much sense if the energy they just ate could be regurgitated when someone when back in time and brought that person back. I’m a bit iffy on that with the Doctor doing exactly that in Blink, but everyone else has had to live out their entire natural lifespan.
@@vullord666 Nah my problem is if they are trapped in the past they can just go to another city. Make a note saying doctor to come get them and then stay in the present. Heck those graves might even be the clue that they left to Doctor like Melody's book. I mean sure I also get that he cant go back to new york since time is a closed loop there invalidating any time travel but cant he just go to any city close to there and go there with vehicles?
Oof Two Karen Gillians in the Same Timeline is the Best Timeline

@@kennyljs And a pond.
Ouch
It has infinite rooms, so i’m pretty sure it has an everything (it also apparently has an “everything and anything” maker as shown in “journey to the center of the tardis”).
Seems like The Doctor was considering making a Paradox Machine here.
I lke how when old Amy again started to believe in Doctor, she admitted her "probe" being a sonic screwdriver :D
3:19 The Doctor’s true colours revealed.
im confident im not the only one that when you hear the tardis making noises like that it just gives you the chills, and gives your a sort of "wow! is she going to be alright, she dosent sound happy" feeling, haha.
0:38 Amy lookin like a snack lol I need to re-watch these episodes
She really does.
I just noticed that when the Doctor says the tardis can accept two Amy's he scratches the back of his head with his left hand which I remember reading or watching a video (can't honestly remember were I consume allot of youtube videos in an average day just roll with it) some were that it's a subconcious thing humans do when their forced to lie. I think it's because the left hemisphere is contains the brains creativity area so it's almost like trying to artificially stimulate that area too create more convincing lies.
What an incredible episode this was! Coincidentially, I just finished watching Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel (Tom MacRae's other Doctor Who story) for the first time, and it reminded me what a great writer he is.
One of my favourite episodes. Amy Pond is my favourite companion. I love Karen Gillan!
00:50 I lol’d
This episode predicted endgame
Doctor grins at two Amy's fighting as the glasses make Rory go through a much bigger mid-life crisis than how many times he has died...
NOPE! I love Karen Gillan and I love Amy, but NOTHING is worth losing a karaoke bar!
A karaoke bar being better than having that lip-synch-ing feeling? (the punster strikes again)
I will say it is really cool just how much Moffat embraced the implications of living in a time machine. This is such an ethically interesting dilemna and one that only comes about because of time travel. Which one do you let live bc you can't have both.
Steven Moffat didn't write this episode it was Tom MacRae but under his helm, of course.
While the 10th Doctor's my favorite, Amy has to be the the best companion ever! With Rory right next to her
I so want to go back and watch the whole Pond series.
Out of all 167 episodes in new who, this made me cry. I still don't know why. Maybe it was all the difficult 37yrs Amy endured just to die in the end.
I love this-
Technical stuff-jettison the karaoke bar- maybe we can do it
If I recall the Master augmented the Tardis into a paradox machine to bring back several billion human augmented machines. I wonder if it was possible to create one specifically for Future Amy, thus being able to save both of them without reprecussion
He probably could, but doing so would probably considerably harm the TARDIS, something the Doctor isn't willing to do unlike the Master
@@ZekromAndYugiAndDrago123 iirc once the tardis was a paradox machine it also couldn't be used as a time machine. So in addition to harming the tardis they would all also be stuck there.
I guess Endgame tried so hard to reference this scene... Wow
Tony: Is this safe?
Nebula: yeah, done it before
Tony: What?
Nebula: What?
Gamora: I dont believe it, two Nebulas
Nebula: Aw shit, here we go again
Jodie didn't remind me to subscribe! What if I forget?
0:20 seconds is why the doctor did not want to save future Amy
I remember crying my eyes out watching this episode.. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
So many times the Doctor breaks between alternate realities, does impossible things repeatedly asserted impossibles, creates a copy of himself, changes history, etc, etc, etc. Nope, not two amy's gotta close the door. Pretty shady.
Now, THIS is The Doctor being The Doctor.
The Master maintained a paradox of billions of lives. Having two Amys is too much?
He basically enslaved the Tardis to do so. Remember, the tardis is living and thats why it hated Jack and flew to the end of the universe to get away from Anomalies
He killed the TARDIS to do it. Or at least put it on its death bead
OK do all the dipshits that keep saying this he literally had a cannibalized and he couldn't go anywhere that's why he needed the valiant Jesus Christ man if you're gonna cite something like that at least fucking remember what you're talking about
Two Ponds, Amelia Ponds! Yes please 🙌
Every time I see Old Amy I think somewhere out there, there is a Rory without one. 😩
What do you mean
Nabula & Nebula in Avengers: EndGame.
Felt so sad for old Amy at the end of this.
This was a good episode in my opinion😂❣️
I remember this episode. It was so heart breaking.
Matt Smith was great this whole cast was gold
She could always go onto the tardis and it sustain the paradox.
*He just didn’t want to get rid of the karaoke bar.*
"I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now" - Captain Jack Harkness
So… why can’t there be two Amys in the Tardis if there can be not only two, or even more than two, Doctors?
Two Doctors are just Doctors from different points of the same timeline. They can co-exist, as long as one doesn't do something that really screws up the personal history.
But two Amys are from two distinctly different timelines. One where Amy was rescued, one where she wasn't. One's very being contradicts the existence of the other.
He could turn the Tardis into the Paradox Machine like the Master at the S3 finale (Toclafane killing the humans, their ancestors) but that would mean they would all be stranded on the planet.
Also, the plot.
Bring back the Ponds! 🙏

Gotta love that a karaoke bar is a necessary part of making a paradox possible.
He should have held post Amy too. If anything, she needed a longer hug.
I miss the doctor. It's so hard to see him here.
They should have asked the Master how to use a TARDIS as a paradox machine
Quote from the video that we all just watched
I know I'm really late on this comment but I get so annoyed with people being upset with Amy here. And I love Rory. He's my favorite companion. But, it's wrong to say Amy's not allowed to be upset. For so many reasons. First, Amy was mainly upset with The Doctor. Her anger and resentment and hate was for him. Not Rory. Second, we don't know that Rory didn't ever get discouraged or angry at any point during those 2000 years since we didn't see them. And even if he didn't, he knew exactly what he was getting into. At least as far as time. He didn't have his hope dwindling over time, because he knew there was no way around it.
And the biggest reason it's wrong to be upset with Amy is because it's wrong to compare suffering. Your pain doesn't stop because someone else has it worse. It's wrong to say someone isn't allowed to feel their emotions because someone else went through something tougher. Because being fearful for your life for 36 years, separated from everyone is terrible no matter how you look at it. It's objectively a horrible experience and doesn't change because someone else did something beyond the ordinary. And as much as I loved Rory waiting 2000 years, I think the show backed itself into a corner (at least when it comes to people who think you can compare pain - ha!). Because they could never write anything to match that.
Finally, someone said it.
One of my few favourite episodes from the Moffat era.
New title episode "Rorys choice"
