It was quite obvious to anybody with a brain stem that Sturgeon was deliberately putting a tartan spin on every decision that was agreed across all nations of the UK. She was trying to get her neb in before everybody else to make it look like it was her decision. Which is why they kept her out of certain meetings. Then she started counteracting those decisions made in England by insisting that we do things for longer. If she could have gotten away with it, she would've had us in lockdown for weeks and months after everybody else. It was about power and control. It was about 'standing up' to Westminster in her eyes and showing that she could do it better. She had a presidential approach in every respect and in some cases a dictatorial approach, evidenced by her attempt to defend the idiot who went on her Holly bobs whilst also enacting travel restrictions on everybody else. Sturgeon and her legacy is utterly poisonous.

Craven is a very telling surname for Shona who’s such an obsequious fangirl of Nicola Sturgeon that she even speaks like her right down to her inflection, diction and ‘suppressed’ chuckle when defending the indefensible. She writes for a comic, not a newspaper. I was a paid up SNP member and supporter of Sturgeon going into Covid. It became apparent to me very quickly that what Fraser Nelson points out was absolutely going on. Once that outrage became apparent to me all the other flaws became clear too and I left the party shortly thereafter. I’m disgusted and angry at the SNP but far more angry at myself for allowing myself to be taken in by them.

Devolution has been a colossal mistake for Scotland. We have created a platform for mediocre politicians who have micro managed us all in order to justify their existence. The SNP years have proven that they don't even want Devolution to work. Endless grievance and navel gazing with a spineless, compliant media who have been cheerleaders for the SNP. Scotland is in a terrible state at the moment. We get the politicians we deserve, I suppose. The joke's on us.

Sadly, many of my fellow Scots think that the larger the State machine, the "better" things will be - it allows many to abdicate any sort of personal responsibility for the lives they lead. The fact is, the Scottish "Parliament" is a third rate talking shop full of third rate nobodies, and is an extra level of government we simply do not need. I would vote for the political organisation who said they would abolish the whole aberration if elected.

I don't get why nobody ever frames it in this way. Scotland is already in charge of everything except pensions and defence and does so with a greater per capita spending budget than England. Thus, anything except those two things is fully on them unless I'm missing something (and it's a good yardstick of whether things would change if they became independent)?

The comments by the young lady from the National are frankly ludicrous. The SNP is a deeply cynical party and has been very good at presenting an image of 'caring competence' while sowing animosity within the UK; when the Inquiry was coming to town they-and especially Sturgeon- clearly realised that deleting Watsapps (or them 'not being retained on my device', in Sturgeon-speak)-particularly in the face of her assurance of 'transparency'- would cause major and justifiable outrage. They have clearly done a balancing act and decided that that outrage was as nothing compared to what would have flowed from their disclosure- potentially misfeasance and other criminal offences, or civil liability on a massive scale ? I hope that one day we find out- but we will not find out through the National

Shona: deletions were “unfortunate” ….our defensiveness was “we weren’t as bad as them”. Phew…Nicola is better at PR than Boris! But her “Disingenuousness” in relation to the “independence campaign” during the pandemic = one of Nicola’s best ever whoppers. She went straight from a cabinet, discussing Covid/independence, to a press conference. When questioned, she flatly and angrily denied it saying: “we are not dealing with politics at the moment… We are dealing with a virus… Frankly, anyone who is trotting out political or constitutional arguments is in the wrong place completely…”

In New Zealand, Ardern had skillfully palled up to particular journalists. The reason was two fold, she could control the narrative by allowing those said journalists privileged access and asking questions that she knew would not be threatening. Thus giving her favorable articles.
Secondly, those with the privileges would then be in secure, powerful positions within the media outlets, influencing the employment procedures. This allows a culture that leans towards her thinking for future generations within the high media echelons.
Whether she has learned this from the SNP or vice-versa is desputed. One thing is for sure, NZ is weening itself off this cabal, and I sure hope Scotland will do the same.

If the Scots do not like devolution they could easily vote for parties that will scrap it. But they dont. There is a very interesting debate taking place here. Fraser Nelson looks at Scotland and judges devolution to be a failure. However his perception is viewed through a Tory lens. The point is that devolution is democratic and where governments make mistakes the people can vote for the other lot. However in Scotland the other lot to the SNP appears to be the Labour party. The failure here is the Tory party, not devolution.

Tony Blair thought that devolution would mean Scotland would always be controlled by Labour, but it's an example of political expedience gone disastrously wrong. The SNP has been a disaster and that may be because they don't want Scotland to be successful unless it is independent, or it might just be because the SNP politicians are monumentally incompetent.

Can someone tell Fraser that "don't you think xyz" just hands the narrative to the opponent and allows them to frame their own question ? this was not a discussion - it was one person trying to create an interesting and dialogue and the other one simply holding the party line. in that sense because Fraser was not able to push his game upwards, the dialogue became predictable and boring.
