Thank you for being so transparent and vulnerable on camera. Weight, body shape, and body image is such a deeply personal and potentially painful subject to address when you are struggling, yet remains so stigmatized and polarizing that often people won’t allow their internal strife to be voiced and heard due to the, hopefully, minority of listeners who do not react in a supportive, understating, and loving manner. It’s so easy to deflect and ignore, but there before the grace of God - we should all have an inherent mirror we need to look in to in order to pause and reflect on our on different journey paths in life without casting judgement on others because no one is without their own personal struggle or, more often the case, struggles. I wish you nothing but happiness and peace on your journey.

Alexis I am cheering you on, you can do this. Someone once said to me, you ignore your health to make wealth and then when you get older you spend all your wealth for your health. I quit my full time job a few months ago because I was able to and took a part time job because I was so stressed out and knew my health and family was being affected by it. So as someone who really gets where you’re coming from, I am cheering you on big time. 🎉🎉🎉 Alexis so proud of you for sharing and being open. We need more people like you on Yourube being real and talking about real issues. ❤

Good morning, Alexis! Congratulations to you for making this decision and being brave enough to share here! I have struggled all my life with weight too and maybe your videos will inspire me as well! Regarding knee pain, I have struggled with it since my mid 30s. Throwing out a couple things that helped me, if you’re interested. Losing weight for sure will help. But also strengthening targeted muscles that support the knees makes a huge difference. Consider going to a physical therapist that can show you the specific exercises that will strengthen the right muscles. Also, hiking has made a huge difference for me. I’m not sure the terrain by you and if you have some hiking trails. But I had also recently developed other issues in my hip, and the muscle strengthening that comes with hiking has made a huge difference. I had an orthopedic surgeon tell me I needed surgery. Now I’m almost pain free. Sorry for rambling.
I’m excited for you for making this decision. I know how hard it is and I’m here to support you! You got this!!

Honestly Jenny I never would have even considered a physical therapist. Thank you so much for that suggestion. You are so right! We have a lot of great hiking trails around here. I've been more hit and miss with them this summer because the dang ticks have been so bad, but something I hope so enjoy more this fall. I'm so glad you are pain free. Thank you for your support my friend!

This is an incredible video. It’s so beautiful to see this part of your life and grateful for your vulnerability, which shows just how powerful you really are. What’s really inspiring and a great approach to hear is that you are taking care of all of you and approaching your health and wellness goal from a mental health standpoint along with physical weight loss. Balance is so important. I feel that I am able to connect with you so much in this moment. I am 5’2 and my weight was 270+ on March 13, 2022. That was the day I realized that if I didn’t put myself first, mentally and physically, I wasn’t going to see my 40’s. In my journey it really has been an awakening of self-love and self-care. Bravo beautiful lady, and I am so excited to connect with you on your journey through RUclips 🎉🫶🏻🐶

It takes a tremendous amount of courage and dedication to put out a video like this. I, for one, am very grateful for your willingness to do so. There's no way you can ever know how many lives you touch, or the difference you make in someone's life, this side of heaven.
My weight is currently at about 175 lbs rounded up. For perspective, I'm about 4', 11" tall - so I'm as round as I am tall. I've struggled with my weight all of my adult life. I'm in my early 60's, and have a chronic back pain issue I've been dealing with for years. That's no excuse though for letting myself get into this condition. I could not walk a mile right now if my life depended on it. That needs to change.
You have inspired me to stop and take a close look at what's really going on, and to make the necessary changes to live a more healthy life. The time for inactivity, a sedentary life style, laziness, and completely ignoring my weight problem...is over. I have two grandchildren I adore, and they love me so much. The time for change is now.
One other thing: the truth of the matter is - you could have chosen to go on this journey in private, without sharing it here in this community. Thank you, Alexis, for your willingness to share this with us!!

I’ve also found that calorie counting quickly becomes obsessive! It’s like a new addiction replacing the food addiction. Different symptom, same behavior. No added sugar + intermittent fasting is the key for me to not be on the obsessive crazy train while still feeling in control.
Good luck on your journey and I’ll be cheering you on!! ❤❤❤

This combined with what I told you I noticed but wouldn't/didn't state ( thought it was to sensitive to mention) shows the mind shift & strength you have & yes, HE communicates with us the way the individual needs or will understand. It was a sign to YOU. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about that. Signs are a real thing. So proud of you. I don't have a weight concern but I think sharing something this personal in a public forum with people that aren't always kind is major!!! I'm cheering for you

Hi Alexis! It’s been a good long time since I commented, as I have not been buying vendor wax for at least a couple years (though still very much enjoying my stash!). But I am excited for your health journey, which of course we are all on in one way or another. I know you will find what works best for your lifestyle and schedule and preferences.
You mentioned food choices, portion control, exercise, etc. I recommend starting with one or other of those changes and sit with it for a while. I have found that too radical change will burn me out fast, but on the flip side, implementing one good choice until fairly consistent naturally snowballs into more good choices. Then it is less overwhelming, leas of an overhaul of life, which one stressful life event can derail in no time.
I know you know all this. But community is so great, and I love talking about this topic!
Also, back at the beginning of 2020 Ramona Tulk was talking about her experience with intermittent fasting. Idk if she still maintains any sort of fasting protocol, but she inspired me to try it out, as I had just underwent major surgery and could not exercise for a couple months. I started an 16:8 (eating window typically from 11am to 7pm) the day our state shut down (totally not planned!) and have lived an intermittent fasting lifestyle ever since, almost 4.5 years! I did not have a huge amount to lose but over the course of tweaking my fasting/eating windows (the flexibility the best thing about it!), I have maintained my goal size for years (first time in my life!) and also experienced some nice body recomposition in the process due to the boost in autophagy fasting provides.
I don’t know about you, but binge-snacking was my biggest problem, and the parameters of IF has completely eliminated the issue. I don’t miss the late night or between meals snacking whatsoever because IF had helped me to consciously know what it is like to feel good in my body, zero bloat, zero inflammation! Feeling light when I go to bed is so motivating that I cannot imagine going back to grazing all day.
IF also naturally helps you make better food choices because your body craves nutrition and wants to get in the nutrient dense whole foods within your window so you will be satiated during the fast.
I still like the feel of snacking, so I usually get that fix by open my eating window with a meat/cheese/nut/veg and dip, etc. plate while I drink my creamy coffee.
Anyway, as you are into health podcasts, I highly recommend Gin Stephen’s two podcasts - Intermittent Fasting Stories, and Fast Feast Repeat. She has a book by the same name as the latter, as well as other books by the titles Delay Don’t Deny, and 28 Day Fast Start.
No pressure of course, but I’m sure Ramona would love taking to you also about her IF experience! For me, IF doesn’t feel like deprivation, so I never burn out. And when you begin to feel great, you just want to keep on feeling great!
In any case, you will do great whatever plan you choose!

Thank you for this video Alexis! ❤ I have been on a weight loss journey for a little while myself. To be completely honest 10 years I was the complete opposite. I used to be under weight and people would accuse me of not eating and I use to try so hard back then to gain weight. I was a smoker back then too and one day I decided to quit and between that and not having the best eating habits I slowly started to gain weight. Then back in 2019 I started drinking soda again as a form of caffeine and ever since then I put on even more weight. I put on about 60 pounds in total and now I’ve been trying to lose some. I have lost some but still not where I want to be yet. Your video is definitely motivating me more to keep going and not give up! 😊 I am looking forward to seeing your progress! ❤

I'm late to this video, but I'm cheering you on! I had my third and last baby in 2023, and I've got a goal to lose 35lb. I'm 15lb down so far! I'm 100% with you on portion control and not calorie counting. I'm way too psychotic to calorie count, but I am essentially cutting my portions in half. No going back for seconds and no dessert at home. But if I'm out somewhere and someone is serving sweets, I'm not saying no lol. It's all about moderation, but it's so so so hard. Losing weight is 100% a mental game because I also struggle with food noise. I'm excited to follow you on this journey!

Alexis, you inspire me ! You know some of my stuggles with my back . Although it’s different… I’m so frustrated , I get what you’re saying by being uncomfortable in your own skin! That’s where I’m at And when your goes and it HAS to be a priority, like your number one priority! I’m so there!
Not being able to active crushes me ! i’m being very vulnerable with you, but that’s only because I know you won’t judge!
For me, one day everything was fine or so. I thought it was and the next day everything changed so fast ! Watching people that I love live their lives and may not being able to participate like I once did crushes me! when I force myself to do things and feeling the physical pain crashes my soul because I know I did too much!
I don’t mean to go on about me when you’re being so vulnerable with the changes that you want to make! I believe in you 100%
I believe also that when you set your mind to some thing that you will achieve it!
I think many of us in this wax community can relate to what you’re saying. Half the battle of knowing that you want to make a change is knowing it and asking for support and accountability.
I’m so so proud of you !
I have spent most of my life taking care of my family , and putting myself last. Maybe there were signs that I missed.
I am trying to really make changes in my life too that will benefit my bones. Cutting out Sugar, Caffeine eating clean etc… Learning that caffeine can
stop bones from absorbing calcium! Sugar can make inflammation inside your body so much worse! With the Nerve damage in my body , thats a big one!
I’m so here for this challenge with you!
I have gained weight from not being active ! I know what you are saying are hard to share , but you will do it! I know you are inspiring and helping so many of us!! I am here for you my friend ! 🤗♥️

I remember needing to do the same. Back in 2012 I started the Trim Healthy Mama program (not to the letter) but enough that I lost 75 lbs in several months. Mainly just cutting out sugars. When I lost my husband in our motorcycle crash I ate myself back 50lbs. I had a stroke, severe nerve damage and several broken bones all due to the crash. I am now 61 and have arthritis and I ache all the time. Most from the crash and some from the weight. you are so young and “healthy” enough to do this. You can move around more easily and can work outside the home. I am disabled and moving is hard. The one thing that will really take it off and help keep it off is not drinking Soda. I have never counted calories. I have never gone without and lost and kept it off just by staying away from processed sugars. it heals your gut. But everyone is different n how they want to face things. I will pray for you and support you. ❤

I'm so proud of you for taking charge of your health and sharing it all with us!💕 It really hit home when you talked about obsessively focusing on calorie counting and then it becomes a whole new beast, then you just end up feeling worse about yourself! Yes!! I am finding that as I get older it is so freaking hard to maintain a healthy weight and then you top that off with all the perimenopause fun-ness that goes along with it. I decided to take charge of my well being and get my body stronger and healthier before old age decides to take me down, lol. I had to hire a personal trainer to devise a program to help me at the gym with heavy-ish weights because there is no way I would have done it on my own (I haaaate the gym!) she gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed, now I go 3-4x a week on my own! I cut out sugar, bad carbs, and processed food along with intermittent fasting and the weight is steadily falling off each week and I am gaining muscle in places I never knew were even there 😄For me, I just can't follow a fad or restrictive diet - I just won't maintain it long term. When I go on vacation I still have the foods and not beat myself up for it, I'll just walk my butt off to burn off some of the calories, and then get back on track when I get home. I also still eat a cookie here and there, just not the whole bag. I'm right along side of you Alexis cheering you on as I sit here eating my kale for lunch 😂 You got this!!!!❣

Kudos to you! I’m also starting a weight loss journey. I do not have nearly as much weight to lose as you, but I did gain about 40 lb since 2018 (2017??). That involved two hard pregnancies & births….the recovery from the 2018 birth meant I could not be very active for 1-2 years, and I gained weight. Then I started losing it and covid hit. Then I started trying to get it off again…..and I got pregnant.
So! Now that I’ve recovered another 2 years, I’m ready to lose some of it again! Just trying to be active & not overeat was not giving me any forward progress for several months, so, ironically, I’m counting calories for the first time. *I’m decent at maintaining weight without aid, but not losing it!!*
I don’t plan to count calories forever, but I at least need to get a good jump start on this….ideally, 10+ before I quit counting.
I hope you’re able to stick with it this time again, and learn some awesome new health skills, so your body can be used for decades to come. 🥰

In my experience the best things have come from listening to that voice. Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey. Alexis, your video inspired me to step on the scale this morning. I’ve been avoiding it but I’ve seen myself in pictures and could feel the difference in my clothes… it’s worse than I thought. I’d lost 74 pounds at one point. I’ve gained back 46 of them, 19 of those just since this past March. Alcohol is definitely a contributing factor! I’ll be 33 in October and I’m motivated to focus on my health again. I’m rooting for you! ❤

Last year I lost 39 lbs but I’ve gained 16 back this year - today my weight is 198 - It can be so discouraging to gain back but I know I can never give up on this - I want to hit my 50 lb goal (and stay there)! Good luck to you. I totally understand the food issues you talked about. I’ve had an eating disorder for 20 plus years. What people don’t get is it’s worse than any other problem bc you HAVE to eat. Right now, for me, it’s not really about weight (it has been in the past) I was 141 this morning. It’s more about health so I’m trying lower carb (NOT Keto) and less sugar and salt. I’m hitting 60 next week so the health issues creep up.
It’s hard not to get obsessed especially when you start to see results. I’m rooting for you! 🥰

Beautiful video, just remember to enjoy the process sweet girl! Take it slow and relax into a new way of thinking and routine. Please remember a lot of the weight loss journey is mental. You must speak it into existence and be kind to yourself. I started my weight loss journey being strict and was tired and stressed and I hated it. What I did instead was to change a couple of things. I started with only drinking water, walking three times a day , eating smaller portions and throwing out the scale. I allowed myself a treat a day but it was tiny, it took me a year to loose 40 lbs but I didn’t have to count or think

We have such a terrible relationship with food it seems. Sadly we focus on fixing the weight and not the relationship. I have dedicated myself to food I should eat and not what I shouldn’t or can’t. Once I’m at peace with my food I think the 40 pounds I gained having 6 kids will sort itself out. Weight does not equate to laziness or will power. It also doesn’t necessarily mean good health! Good for you for airing out your concerns and reality. ❤

Alexis, this is wonderful!! I will totally join you. I've been wanting to lose some weight, too, but I lack motivation. I have had an unhealthy relationship with food since I was 20. I was bulimic and anorexic in my early 20s and struggled with body image and depression. I turned to opiates/pain pills shortly after that. I've been clean and sober for many years now, by the grace of God. I've had a lot of therapy too.
I still struggle with body image at times and I occasionally will binge on chocolate. 😂😂😂
I'm 52 now, so maintaining a healthy weight is alot harder now. My goal is to get back into the gym. Its been a struggle though because I have herniated discs and inflammed facet joints. Nevertheless I still want to try.
Can't wait to see your progress and this definitely helps me as well.

Leticia that is so awesome! Honestly even if you can't get back in the gym, the best thing you can do (that I have found) is to walk! Find a hill, do some intervals, etc. I have lost so much weight in the past by not being in the gym, but just by getting my butt outside and focusing on my steps each day. I'm so glad you are here with me. We can conquer those body image issues together!

Cheering & supporting you on! I’m joining you❤️ I’m about 20 years older & still fighting my weight ☹️ I use sugar & carbs for my mental health. It feels better in the moment, but with my age & autoimmune issues it really is causing havoc. I do better when I say I’m choosing to not eat a sweet or trying to pick protein first cause I want to feel better & I am worthy of taking care of. Like it really is a mind trick, rather than I can’t or shouldn’t have this, etc.
I am looking forward to sleeping better, less knee & back pain and having more energy! Clothes fitting better will be fun too! I am short 5’1 & would love to lose 60-70 lbs! I’m so glad you’re doing this, thank you for being so open. It helps knowing we aren’t alone & will be a great source of positive support for us all!❤

I’m so proud of you for letting yourself be vulnerable! My highest weight was 285 (I’m 5’8) and I got down to 181. Long story short, all but 5 pounds came back. This morning I weighed in at 266.3
I completely understand accountability. I always did best basically knowing someone else was going to know. Doing weight loss challenges at work was great because every Wednesday I had to get weighed in by a coworker. With that, I can also attest to calorie counting being a problem. I use the Lose It app and it 100% works when you’re honest but scrutinizing every calorie is stressful. I’d be on the treadmill constantly refreshing the app to see if I had earned extra calories with exercise. One positive thing, though, is I never felt I had to give up any one type of food if I was diligent about portion control.
I’ve reached a “now or never” place with my weight and I feel like now is the time. I’m happy to know now that someone relatable is on the journey too and I can’t wait to see all of your little successes along the way! 💜💜

Aaron and I found you through wax. We both have had weight struggles our whole lives. In 2015 we both had weight loss surgery on the same day. My (Jessica) high weight was 349 pounds. I was like you. I had never been a healthy weight in my entire adult life. With the surgery I lost 150 pounds. I was able to maintain my weight at about 207 pounds for several years, until covid. My routine was thrown on its ear during covid, and I gained back up to 268 pounds. I was so angry with myself. Last April I had enough, and started working on losing the regain. I also wanted to get to my original goal weight of 190. That would still be considered overweight for my height of 5'9". As of this comment I am 196! It has been almost 17 months of making lifestyle changes just like what you are talking about. As a nurse, I don't think people realize how much genetics, mental health, and environment make up weight issues for some of us. I totally understand the food noise! It is a conversation I have with myself daily. Now, I don't belittle myself and talk down to myself, I talk through the cravings and make decisions that are good for my body. I know this will be a lifelong area where I have to maintain vigilance. I am proud of you for putting this out there. I will be rooting for you every step of the way!

I totally relate to struggling with weight. I do remember following your health journey then as I will now. Sadly my health and spine are a mess and I am very limited to what I physically can do. Portion control is another I need to go back and do. I do only eat 2x a day but if I snack on things. I have a hard time controlling myself. Cheese and cold brews and extra calories and portions are my issues. I will do my best to make the changes I can do.

This video resonated with me so much! I’ve also struggled with my weight my entire life, lost 80# in my 20s gained it all back. Now I’m in my early 40s and trust it does not get easier, to the point of impossible to lose weight. Last Aug I stepped on the scale and saw a number id never seen before (267). I decided I def needed to do something. I did not feel comfortable in my clothes or in my body, even sleeping was uncomfortable. I started on GLP-1 (Semaglutide inj) and have lost 75# so far and even though I’m still technically overweight (~190#) I feel incredible. I know people have opinions but it has honestly been life changing for me and the only thing that has ever worked. The food noise was gone and it made portion/calorie control so easy because I wasn’t obsessing anymore. They told me to focus on protein (90g/day) and water intake so that helps you feel full all day and weight bearing exercise to gain muscle. You’re already working out so you’re 5 steps ahead of where I was! Just wanted to share in case that’s an option for you I wholeheartedly recommend it. Anyway good luck on your journey, you’re gorgeous inside and out and your channel has brought me a lot of joy and entertainment over the years! 💖

I wish you all the best. I had a gastric bypass in 2002. My highest was 309. Currently, I’m about 195 so heavier than I would like, but I’m 47 and on tamoxifen so I really need to do something to lose the 30 I would like to. I know it’s not easy.

Im still doing dirty keto as a diabetic but I have to get off at least 61 to go back to where I got too when I lost 191.
I need to stop drinking my calories. I never drank cold brew drinks and that when I was lower. I do need some caffeine but I need to cut back greatly on drinking so much.
I will up my water, i am going to ask the dr about me doing IF. Technically I am a diabetic but because I do pretty low carb ,little dirty keto my blood sugar is that of a non diabetic.

@@AlexisSchlueter I think I drink cold brew and other things more then I eat to be honest. No alcohol cause of meds ,illness and after my Dad died 42 yrs old when I was a teen and my mom was widowed at 40 she indulged quite a bit. I had to handle things that she couldn't do.
Too much caffeine though is not good for my anxiety or blood pressure on top of my weight.
