Love James. First time I heard him play with the “Charles Wright & Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band” it blew me away. My claim to fame can be heard on a tune sampled by De La Sol and Cypress Hill “When The Shit Goes Down”. James was a big influence as was Jabbo and Clyde and of course my father Stan Levey. Blessings to James and Dom for doing these Great interviews!!!
James Gadson is the most underrated drummer ever... Every track he played on is a lesson for every drummer.. For those who may not know him, dig "I.G.Y" on Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" album.. Just.. smokin'
James can play any style on drums it doesn’t make a difference he’s proficient plus he’s an excellent singer . James song the hit single “Loveland “ for the Watts 103rd St. rhythm band he also song vocals parts with Ray Jackson on “ LEAN ON ME “who also was piano player in the band . That whole “ STILL BILL “ was created in James Gadson’s garage . I remember Bill saying , WE WERE “ THE ORIGINAL GARAGE BAND “ Oh’ what memories I have with James , Ray , Melvin and Bill . Guitarist Benorce Blackmon .
James Gadson was the lead singer on 2 doowop songs when he was quite young.......the songs were "why do I " and "lonely me " the group was called "the carpets".....both records were on the "Federal " record label ..........Erik Von
This is just funktastic!! what a privilege to be able to see this living legend, sorely missed, much imitated (even though many dont realise he was one of the main source (& sauces:) of the early hip hop beat). The guy is also such a cool bloke, someone we all would want to hang (& play along) with - more than I would have imagined.... Respect, Peace & love but mostly THANK YOU SIR !! :D
Too bad James Gadsen never gets credit for being the lead singer of "LOVELAND" - major hit Charles Wright & Watts 103rd Rhythm Band. Mr. Wright apparently doesn't give Mr. Gadsen credit as co-writer and lead singer for this big hit tune. I recall as a pre-teen, watching Mr. Gadsen on American Bandstand - getting up from the drum kit - and being the lead singer on Loveland. On that tv date, they also performed "Express Yourself." The band was so hot, during the early 70s ... or maybe 1970. TC
Bill Withers “Use Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine” live videos brought me here.
James's groove is so heavy and deep. That man's time doesn't move either. Amazing feel all around.

leealtman you should listen to his hi-hat/bass groove on Diana Ross’s “Love Hangover”...😎👍🏼🥁
One the the legends, and seems like such a cool guy. He is great on Doyle Bramhall II's Mama Can't Help You. It's on RUclips.
Now I know why I
Love that song so much , killer groove!!
He ain't dead!
what an interview! works on different levels
Randomly discovered James on RUclips. Wow. Instantly one of my favorites.

Thanks James for your inspiring contribution to music. It's unprecedented and probably inimable as well. But we'll keep striving!!!
That smile
I wish these interview would go into the hiphop side of Gadson. He's collabed and done some cool stuff
One of the best to ever do it
Groove legend
James Gadson is from Kansas City!
Follow the yellow brick road.
Love his style
You mean his wig? ;-)
Please go and listen to “I Need You” off of the Temptations 1990 album. The drumming is otherworldly.
Love this. Will Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste ever be featured ?
Maybe....thanks for the support & sharing!
Put your foot on the rock pat your foot don’t stop
pity not all interviewers like Don Famularo just ask the question and wait for the answer..
