This is one Wise, Godly, Humble and loving Man. What a joy it is listening to him talk about his life. I'm really thankful that I grew up in the late 60's, 70's and 1980's. Wow, We really got to grow up listening to all this great new and fresh music as it was being written and produced!! The radio was filled with everything from every genre back then.
A national treasure. The man has first hand experience during the jazz scene to the funk scene transitional period . God bless this man. A very articulate and humble man indeed.
Dom, what a wonderful interview with King James Gadson. Whenever I hear Use Me by Bill Withers which features Mr. Gadson on the traps, I say to myself, man you have to sit down and learn that beat pattern, because it's so cool and more importantly, it's very original, and syncopated, that it's not just a drum pattern that one can easily learn because it is a complex pattern, especially the way he uses his kick drum pattern along with the hi-hat accents, is just mind blowing. Of course he's played on many more songs with many different artists, but the Use Me drum pattern is the one that stands out the most to me, because it's so original and super interesting, and catchy. Also, one can tell that he's very spiritual and humble, and that to me is a lovely and beautiful thing. May God bless Mr. James Gadson, and you as well, Dom.
I love this dude - not only a fantastic drummer/musician but one fine human being...
