This is an issue that just wont vanish and rightfully. So.The die was set centuries ago when america failed to make right a wrong inflicted upon a people without any regards for religion culture languages or for the fact that they were human beings. Their only objective then like now is to take what we want at all cost . and damn how it affects those who are utilized in the process. That being the case those who still think this way should be. Willing and prepared to accept the unavoidable payment for these horrible attrocities which not that far off.God will repay that is His promiise. Fact!!
Why should non slave states pay reparations? Want the blood of all those that freed the salves during the war enough?
Reparations? Yes!
How? That’s the $1 million question.
We also have to understand that many other groups of people have also been exploited and abused in America for centuries. They also need some fair compensation.
@eebbeerrttpp, stay on subject, it's about Black enslavement by the American government. If the other groups you are think about bring charges against America for wrong doing. I stand with them also. Black people stood with Europeans when our government gave them 161 acres of land for free.(which some 40 million Europeans have passed that generational wealth on to there love ones, today. Now, Blacks, some almost 4 million was asking for reparations for their enslavement, which was given and taken back. Treaties with Native Americans, Irish and Italians made white(Irish and Italian were made white by law, Blacks continue to be in semi-slavery.) Japanese were given reparations by President Reagan(the war president against Black welfare queens). So your comfortable with everybody else? But, only when it come to Black people, how are we going to do it? During the pandemic we gave everybody money(federal gave money, states gave money). I'm just in amazement how a nation can have so much hate for a group of people who did nothing to them. Built your cities, states and country for free for 246 years. Fought in every war for America, HONORABLY. There are no excuses for how this country has mistreated Black Americans. Again, I stand with those other groups who feel they been harmed by America. But, can Black Americans get some of that empathy and sympathy?

Only true americans, wish that every other american {not just citizens} has the best
conditions, and the most fulfilling, productive life possible. The better off every
individual is, the better off our society is! There is no limit! No zero-sum. That's why
mass-incarceration is such a myth {lie}. Who in there right mind, would want vast
swaths of otherwise productive, fellow tax-paying americans {lowering the burden on
everyone} to sit idle, become radically racialized, and be a huge net drain fiscally?
The worst forms of racial hatred are bred {sick pun} in the self-segregated, violently
enforced, prison environment. According to this MYTH someone, somewhere or all
"white people", or DR Evil wants radom innocent individuals, of one race, maybe two,
to go through evidently one big system of "show trials" and "Kangaroo Courts', not
mentioning the millions of white supremacist, or racist at least {sorry, but none of it
makes a lick of sense, but I'm trying to portray the MYTH in as good a light, as possible
ala "steele manning", and if it sounds 51/50 crazy, that's the fault of the myth makers}

Ta-Nehisi Coates, thank you so much for your research and for the concise way that you lay out the facts. I agree that until our country really addresses its history the future will be unstable at best. The idea of reparations is about the money and about the actual damages done and I believe that it is a puts some teeth in any sort of apology. This is a capitalistic society and money is what matters, this has always been about money for them and a part of the remedy has to be money. I also think that if and when reparations are made there should be a check written to individuals because we don't need government to decide how reparations should be spent. If a judgement is won through the courts the plaintiff is told how he or she must use her money and neither should we if reparations become a reality.
Insanity is accepted as mainstream, why should you not also?

There is no case whatever for "reparations". Get off it, ain't gonna happen. Go to Africa for the people who sold the Blacks in the first place. Then the arabs Spanish, and so forth. Get over it.
So the insights are, in order:
1. TV isn't like real life
2. Slavery was bad
3. Jim Crow was bad
Where was the argument for reparations? Bad shit happening in the past is not exactly an argument. "It's not the same as X" isn't an argument. I'm not trying to bring this guy down, but this is the 3rd or 4th video I've watched and I've yet to see him put together an actual case for, well, *anything*. Reparations - what exactly are they? To whom? From whom? How much? How long? To what end? What of the long list of standard objections? A lady asked him exactly this in the Q&A and he said basically nothing beyond "there are a lot of good ideas out there."
You obviously did not watch and listen intently because Coates does answer your question by referring to John Connely’s legislation HR40 which would study and examine the institution of slavery and its legacy on the African American community and whether or not reparations would make sense as a starting point for addressing the wrongs of slavery itself.
@@LordGreystoke So he completely passes the buck? He thinks some government order to come up with the entire idea and implementation is worth anything? Countless books and studies have already been done on that. If he hasn't bothered to turn any of that knowledge into concrete plans before proposing he have the run of the place, he's not a serious thinker, and a tyrant at that. "Here is my vague idea for why I should have tons of power - I won't bore you with the details, but here are some emotional pleas." Yeah right, take a hike!
I came to this country LEGALLY in 1990. Why the hell should I pay for something I didn't have a damn thing to do with? What a joke!
Should the African tribes who sold their defeated enemy into slavery also have to pay?
Even if true, it's a moot point because it never will happen.
Our very freedom was supposed to not ever be able to happen. Think about that when thinking about what can and can't happen.
