What mid range NEW Gaming PC can you build for £600 Spring 2024
uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/CpYgWt
If you are looking at building your own PC and have around £600 to spend, what can you get and what things should you look out for?
In this video I will take you through my current choices and some other options that might be of interest.
Sadly there isn't a lot of difference with this guide over the last £600 version we did quite a while back.
We get a more impressive CPU and motherboard, but we have the offset of the more expensive RAM and storage, so we haven't really seen any big jump in relative performance.

AMD RX 6600 good GPU, AMD 5600 CPU good performance/price ratio. AM4 is very good mature platform.
yeah this is something you can build easily cheaply and not have to worry much about the parts or the bios settings and still have a decent reliable pc
Built my first PC about a week ago and went with similar parts. 5600x with Thermalright King 120 SE, Prime B550 WiFi II, 32gb DDR4 3600 and Montech Air 100 ARGB. Picked up the 5600x for about £95 from Amazon DE (worth checking although it takes longer for delivery). Still looking for a GPU while I use my old 1060, good enough for esports games though
nice setup, the 5600x is a great chip and whips Intels low end offerings
Awesome Thanks Mike and Kath :D
Our pleasure!
I have a list of parts and I snipe the deals as they arise. I did this when things first turned to sh*t and I got burned because I left the GPU till last. These days I grab it first. Have my eye on some 3060's but we are still haggling. About 10% more expensive and slower than your 6600 but I'll trade that for the extra VRAM and more stable drivers. No point in ranting about pricing but long term it can't be healthy for game development if there is less and less in the way of hardware to run things because people cant or wont upgrade.
Good video Mike. Keep em coming mate.
Thanks, will do!
My PC cost me £555 all together using both new and 2nd hand parts, I have the R7 5700G cpu, Coolermaster 500w bronze 80+ psu, Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard, 32gb Corsair Vengeance ram 3200, AMD RX 6600 GPU, 1 TB nvme ssd and an IONZ PC case (which you recommended), I have 4 other hard drives in which I had in my old PC but I didn't include them in the price, I'm very happy with it :)
that is a pretty good setup and swapping out the PCIe gen3 CPU for a gen4 one would give the motherboard IO and GPU a little speed boost
I just saved 600 quid. My intel G6900 Celeron with 16GB of DDR4-3200 ram, paired with Mikes favorite graphics card...a GT 1030. CPU is being cooled with an ID-Cooling SE-214-XT. Currently sipping around 2.2 to 5 watts, temps are around 21C to 25C while watching this review. Built this system from parts I bought awhile ago. Just need a 750 to 850watt PS for my i7-12700k and Arc A770 16GB LE build. Cheers
nice one rick!
@@mikesunboxing Right back at you mate. You, Lady Kath, and family have an awesome week. Cheers
@@rickh8380 You too Rick 🙂
nice video mike
thanks Darren
I have the exact pc sitting for 6 months. People have no money right now, and would like to get a similar rig basically for peanuts low balling 😂
yeah it is tough out there at the moment
If I was going to build a new AM5 PC, it cost around $2500, plus the water cooling parts would be about 1200, so $3700 would be a good start.
it is not a cheap hobby at the moment
@@mikesunboxing So true. Which is why I'm hoping my current AM4 Beast will last three or five more years.
Great video, just to add, at least that is what happened to me, with w10 and 11, clean install on a clean disk Windows gets activated for free!
yeah sometimes you can get lucky with the combination of hardware
Thanks, great coverage with all the info and specs! Recently subbed in the hope for more budget-end component picks on your channel :) I'm currently trying to put together a sub-£700 new pc on AM5 with an 8 core CPU, but even with a £200 graphics card it's a struggle! I'm only a casual gamer and 1080p low detail is fine for me, so I might ditch a card altogether and opt for the 8700G, but I'm open to suggestions :)
Thanks for the sub! with AM5 if you are looking sub £700 it is possible but not easy. I would go with an ali express Ryzen 7700 for about £140 and a MSI B650 Gaming Plus wifi and take it from there, probably a used GPU from GPUsed.co.uk like a rx6600 for about £150
@@mikesunboxing Appreciated
Mike you could not have timed this video better! Just been asked by my brother in law how much it would be to be a pc with school usage in mind. Coding programs etc as starts high school in sept. So would you chose nvidia over amd, say a 3060 12gb? Otherwise initially I concur with cpu ram nvme choices bar he needs wifi so looking at gigabyte b550m ax mb. Thanks Mike and Kath 🐈👍
i'm not sure about the coding but it seems people are preferring to use CUDA acceleration for that if appropriate
Thanks Mike much appreciated 🐈👍
Replace PSU on MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5... And it would be perfect!
I have used a plenty of PSUs, including Chieftec, Zalman, Asus, Deepcool, Be Quiet and MSI. But I have never heard of Kolink in the whole life. It's something very very rare most people unaware of. Even their website kolink eu looks cheap and low budget. Idk, maybe they are good and trustworthy, but I just don't like unknown brands. That PSU from MSI is a working horse for budget builds, with a lot of reviews on every website 90% of which are fully or somewhat positive.
It would likely be 650£ at the end, but the big difference is your freedom to conduct the upgrades and install any card, except for probably RTX 4080 Super/4090, without a need to replace PSU.
yeah that is a good choice of psu
Poking around to see if it's possible to bring in an A620, 7500F or 7600 and 16GB DDR5 and how many corners would have to be cut ... pot luck individual sticks of 8GB DDR5 from CEX (they don't have any kit of 2 for them) eek!
i always find ram from CEX to be a bit hit and miss unless you go to the store
Getting hard to build anything on a budget. Glad i bought those fikwit nvme drives so cheap earlier on in the year. They must 50 quid now .I am definately going to give aliexpress a go 5700x3d next lol. They are £130-150 on there just now. Luckily my sons corsair 650w psu is good enough....
Fikwot you know what I mean🤣🤣
Totally agree
I'd be a bit cautious about using a Fanxiang NVME ssd btw, I bought a brand new one from Amazon and it lasted me 3 weeks, cheap crap mate, ended up buying a Samsung one to replace it, that works perfectly ;)
i think that all drives and manufacturers have failures, i have used a number of those drives and the fikwot etc which are all the same drives and so far, zero failures. But i understand what you are saying, there is a perceived assurance of reliablitiy with big brand names, but in practice i don't know if this is bankable
For a budget system i would lool at a ryzen 4500, b450, a520 combo. If i still had a 600 budget id spend the saving on the gpu.
yeah that works, my only concern is that those boards and chip are pcie gen3 so whatever GPU you buy it is going to be limited to some extent
@@mikesunboxing that's true but honestly at this price point it's not going to matter as long as its not a rx 6500xt
Second hand parts from places like eBay are great, especially AM4 parts, due to people upgrading to new Gen parts, eBay has a money back grantee for faulty goods, I bought a X570 AORUS XTREME MB FOR £130.00, A MSI GFORCE RTX 3080 Ti for under £300, Ryzen 9 5950x for £270, I've now got a brilliant pc that more than covers my needs at very little cost. This PC will now do me until new Gen gets cheaper
sounds like a very nice system and pretty good pricing
The case does come with 6 Fans
yes it will do
I'm sure i did see this video before.
but i forgot to put a comment in.
well that's the way it is 😲
thanks for making the time to do it whenever you can
@@mikesunboxing I always support the MUB. you know that by now. i think 😲
Recession here we come!
What?
recession inflation, greed, all makes the pc market a pretty stagnant place right now
Well, I was wrong. Twitter in fact suspended my account for reposting pandas and koalas...
is that code or actual pandas and koalas? what is the context?
@mikesunboxing No special context here. I just pointed out the absurd of situation. It was the most peaceful and hate/spam-free profile possible. I just collected the cute videos via retweets and talked with some people in private, that's it. Suspension was a total bs...
AMD to the rescue, as usual
yes they are doing a lot right at the moment, making Intel hard to recommend unless for production workloads
Im currently looking at building a budget/mid-range build - have gone for the Ryzen 5 7500F cpu - undecided on the GPU thou - any options?? (looking at the 6700/6750 XT or should I jump up to the 7700XT)
any of those will go well with that setup. 6750xt seems like a good choice if the price is right
I have just paired a 7500f and an rx6600 xt. Amazed how nippy the 7500f is. Very little difference to 7600.
@@geevs2765 Nice one buddy - I went with the rx6750xt in my new rig and havent looked back
