🥳 Congratulations Kelly!! Hope it goes well Xxx
Don't waste your time as PSO's are mickey mouse Probation Officers, your better off completing the 2yr PQiP training programme
PSO's are CRC failures
Some of what you say is inaccurate, Sarah.
I am a 14 month in PSO on an Unpaid Work Team, and I do have violent offenders in my caseload and some sex offenders too, only they are for past offences, not Index and some are registered high risk for safeguarding or Domestic Abuse. I also do temporarily hold some High RoSH re-registrations based on new info since the case was given to me, until they are passed to a qualified PO. This could take weeks and i still need to case manage them, call them in for risk review meetings, and update OASyS etc. Basically, caretaking the PO role until the case is officially transferred.
I don't hold mainly High Risk cases though, nor are High Risk cases passed to me (only me to a PO) nor do I do Parole Reports. On my team I don't even do multiple sentence cases as some PSO might do if doing community sentence management.
This is very useful, Sarah.
I am applying for both and have my PSO interview next week. I completed my OAS for PQiP too a few days ago and haven't heard back yet. Is more weight given to one part over the others (interview, role plays, written tests)? Or is it a cumulative outcome based on all stages of the application process?
I've decided, if offered both, to take the first one offered or the first one with the start date soonest, provided it is one of my preferred locations. It seems to me that the PSO might be harder to get than the PQiP though. I am also not thrilled about spending my spare time studying for a post grad qualification I already hold from uni'.
Also, what kind of personality profile is best suited to both of these roles, do you think? It concerns me a bit because I am rather cool and detached and officious (and empathy is not something I wear on my sleeve even if it is present) So I am not that warm and feely touchy type. I'm worried I might not get the best out of my more challenging service users and might be ineffective at getting their cooperation. The role play seemed to suggest that too, I felt. I was definitely my authentic self and did not hold back on how I would have responded, had the role plays been a real life interaction. No point in being selected on a fake 'what are they looking for gushing personality' only to find you hate the job and aren't really best suited to it because you are being fake. That won't last long. I think you said that in another video.
I would love to do this job, but only if I am a right fit for the work. Otherwise, I would rather not be selected. The work is too important in the wrong hands.
I find your videos very informative and helpful.
Hi thanks for your comment 😊I do not know if it’s equal weight. However if you have felt you have been your authentic self then you have raised an important point that if chosen then you clearly have what they are looking for. All the best let me know how you get on 🙏🏽
@@HowtobeaProbationOfficer Unfortunately, it was a no. I have a PSO interview coming up though.
@@HowtobeaProbationOfficer I was offered the PSO job. I have accepted. I am thrilled. I didn't think I would get that either, but I did.
How are you finding the job, if you don't mind me asking please? I hope to join soon, waiting for my pre employment checks 🤞
I love your videos, they are so informative! I currently work in the Offender Management Unit at a prison and am so interested in working closer with offenders :) I was wondering how many times the PQiP applications open? I know I just missed one around August / September, is there just the one application period per year? Thank you! X
Hey thanks so much ❤ there are normally about 2-4 per year but each year can change but I don’t know when they are out next follow here or insta as I’ll normally post when they do
Would you not recommend applying as a PSO at all? only as I’m wanting to start off with lower risk people to build my confidence and then progress on to the PQIP
If you have a degree I’d still go on pqip as you start off with lower risk cases any way and you get more support. You won’t get the support as PSO and be expected to crack on and work with the cases straight away
Without a degree you can start off as a PSO and then complete PQIP to become a Probation Officer though!
Yea this is new you can!
I have applied for Pqip, but currently says Your application is on hold and We will let you know the next stag shortly. Is this a good sign. I am so nervous.
If it helps, I have waited 12 months from application to placement start date. Have you done you interview/assessment? If so I was on hold for around 8 weeks before I heard anything else - it can be a very long process - good luck!
Hi there,
I have a conditional offer for the PQUIP programme and I am quite nervous encase it is dangerous, I have never done this before and to be honest I am a very nice person dont really have an assertive personality so I do not know if i should do it
Its understandable your feeling this, it’s the unknown. Personally, I have rarely felt in danger the offices are safe, staff look after you. Also people rarely act dangerous towards their PO ( it does happen but rare).
It’s more the emotional turmoil you need to be aware of and how to manage this. All the best 🧡
I have a interview coming up for a PSO position I was just wondering if you have any tips for the interview. I am quite nervous about it.
Also as I don’t have a degree I was wondering would I be to progress on to the PQUIP with the experience of the PSO ?
Yea you can they have a new pso progression route now
Good luck for your interview?
Thank you 🙂
I have progressed to the Assessment/ Interview stage. What is the best advice for preparation beforehand, and what to expect on the day.
@@symonerichards I had a PSO interview this week. PQIP interviews might be different but my questions were behaviour and strength based (a time when you worked as part of a team, a time when you had to work to a deadline, etc). There may also be a written exercise. Don't forget you can use examples from personal experience or hobbies, not just work.
My best advice is to be yourself. Talk with enthusiasm and passion. Don't just go through answers you've obviously rehearsed verbatim because anyone can do that and it'll be boring. They want to see you as you are, not just as a robot, so show them. Be prepared but not too prepared if that makes sense.
Good luck 🙂
