If you think about it, this is less unusual than it seems at first. I think it may be the first mainstream drone with the focus feature, and Casey and others had no particular reason to know it had to be focused. With the kind of deadline pressure these folks give themselves, it's at least a bit unfair to expect them to read the manual ...
Just didn't know how to do it and it works differently than it does on the P4. He's claimed that the Mavik is his favorite drone too, even BEFORE he fixed the issues, so he's definitely not hating. Also have to remember too, the people that have these test units, DJI sent them this drone and the pieces wrapped in a box. No instructions whatsoever. So everyone's figuring out the new features/differences as they go.
Never doubted the quality of the Mavic Pro and went ahead and ordered on launch day. Your review has reaffirmed I made the right decision. Delivery day can't come quick enough. Thanks for sharing.

Why would you say that? Image B is way sharper. In the first set of images(cartman) the B image is out of focus. Maybe because he put the object to close to the p4 camera? So that does not count. The second image is way sharper. Well if you don't see that.. Are you even watching this on a 4k monitor?

Yup, I'd like to see this in 1080p slow motion. Although I usually shoot in 4k and then edit it down to 1080p in post, and then have the freedom to speed it up, slow it down, and crop whenever I want, it would be nice to be able to do quick videos.
Trust me when I tell you most people will go as far as they can. Besides its range is like 1200 feet, sometimes thats not enough from where you have to launch to film certain objects. My personal line of sight with the Inspire pro was 8000 feet, So yeah people are going to o hat far, if not farther.
to be honest almost everyone who posted reviews the first few days made the same mistake. DJI should have made the touch to focus feature a point during their presentation, a few seconds would have helped the mavics reputation a lot
But didn't his omission helped everyone to focus on the "focus"? May be DJI deliberately left people to find out that for themselves. Those who thought the video of Mavic sucked and hence found an excuse of not buying one (like myself) has suddenly found that they have no more excuse.

Android has an app called DJI Go. You can download it from the Google Play store without having the drone to check it out. That's what I've done with a Nexus 6. That'll be the app you'll use with most of the DJI drones.
This is something I already know, and have attempted. The only problem was the issues of lag and the app constantly freezing; only the android version. Im wondering if anyone had any hands on with an actual android phone, and can describe how well it works.

The review is good, but i don't buy the A/B comparision in the beginning. From what i can see, the shots are taken at different settings. Phantom 4 looks bad because the iso is high and the settings are off, while the Mavic has the perfect settings. This makes me question how legit is the rest of the review. However, i'm #teammavic.
agreed. I think it is the same camera with a slightly smaller sensor on the Mavic. No reason the quality should be different like that with the same settings. Perhaps it was unintentional but it makes me wonder the credibility of rest of review.
The Mavic maybe have a better lens. Some other latest reviews also mentioned that the Mavic has a little better performance under low light conditions.

+577AllWell Yes it corrects if in auto or by you manually, but the shutter will be faster with so much light and that can make the image flicker with movement, so the filters are made so you can keep the shutter speed at desired rate (slower) to ad the adequate motion blur to your video but without loosing much sharpness, just make it flow better.

All evidence show otherwise. The sensor is the same, not the optics. This is why the image is so soft and lacks details compared to the P4. This guy doesn't know what he's doing.
He's not the only one. Every review that I've seen where the reviewer is aware of the autofocus has mentioned the same thing. DJI did themselves a huge disservice by sending these out to reviewers with absolutely no instruction and no mention of the change from fixed focus.
they were in race whom uploaded the review first they will get tons of views. just simple like that. they flew this rc in rush after got it and forgot that this drone has touch to focus feature instead fixed focus camera on P4, they did not care as long as they could published the review first.
It's not better at all, but it is pretty good. If you look at the first video of the city from behind the palm tree, even though the Mavic's colours are punchier, the P4 shows details in the darker areas which are completely black on the Mavic.
you should make a video tutorial how to use one of these bad boys and how to set it up, like how you focus it before a flight, what some of the pop ups might mean...some people are more visual when it comes to that stuff, but awesome video!
This is a severely misinformed and misguided review. First off, the sample footage comparison was not the same. They may have been unedited, but you were clearly using different profiles (or maybe the Mavic doesn't have the same profiles). In terms of the images at the beginning, I won't believe it unless you show me the data indicating they were taken with the same settings. Finally, in comparison to my Phantom 3 Pro, the video samples you showed are actually quite bad. There is macroblocking which is much more severe than mine, when you are in sport mode going higher speeds you can see the Mavic have a tough time dealing with the wind current (almost looked like it was going to flip backwards at one point) and there weer other issues I could mention don't think there's a point. I still have not seen anyone show actual footage that proves the Mavic is even equal to my Phantom 3 Pro camera (not to mention the FOV is not as wide).
The horizon drift is about the worst I've seen on a DJI gimbal. By now, this shouldn't be an issue. Also, the gimbal can be seen shaking on any footage where the Mavic is going at any speed.
It's most likely the exactly the same 1/2.3" sensor with an updated engine or something and a different lens. The Phantom 4 lens might be wider, but the Mavic one is 2/3 of a stop brighter, so almost double the light gathering compared to the Phantom 4. So just think about how good the Phantom 5 is going to be, possibly a different and even bigger sensor - possibly modular like Go Pro Karma - instead of saying nonsense like doubting it's good, it's a great drone with just as good camera, why is that upsetting? Why you don't want to believe? It makes no sense. Did you buy a drone recently or own another one and you don't want the Mavic to be good?
I don't want to believe because I don't think the reviewer is being honest or making fair comparisons. Some people are going to spend their money and make decisions off of reviews like this and it's not a fair review. Also FYI, I've already ordered a Mavic Pro in addition to my DJI Phantom 3 Pro, so no, it has nothing to do with me not wanting the Mavic to be good.
The first set of image samples is pretty obvious. Mavic is capable on focusing at close distances, and P4 focus is locked to infinity. Hence mavic produced a very sharp image and P4 result is really blurry. The second example is less obvious, but if you know that Mavic is 28mm and P4 is 20mm it's easy to see which craft shot which image. Just simple optics, no need to show any data to proof.
This is by far the best and most informative review video I have seen for the Mavic Pro. I have just pre-ordered mine, it says shipping in November, so now time to get my iPhone 7 upgrade and i'm ready for winter in London.

Been following all reviews and media on the Mavic since launch. Your video is one of the best ones I have seen. You mentioned reading the manual. DJI has not yet posted the PDF, which is a frustration. I pre-ordered the Mavic, and can't wait to get it, as I no longer have my P4.

Mavic only shoots up to 96fps in 1080p
Phantom do 120fps in 1080p

Sucks is a strong word because it doesn't "Suck" compared to the P4. LOL
Sensor is the same size as P4...check the specs.
Sorry Wrong its the same sensor just the lens is different which is why low light is not as good the lens is smaller lets less light in.
That's not correct..the Mavic has an aperture of f2.2 against the P4's f2.8, so it lets more light in.

So just think about how good the Phantom 5 is going to be, possibly a different and even bigger sensor - possibly modular like Go Pro Karma - instead of saying nonsense like doubting it's good, it's a great drone with just as good camera, why is that upsetting?
Why you don't want to believe? It makes no sense. Did you buy a drone recently or own another one and you don't want the Mavic to be good?

I don't want to believe because I don't think the reviewer is being honest or making fair comparisons. Some people are going to spend their money and make decisions off of reviews like this and it's not a fair review.
Also FYI, I've already ordered a Mavic Pro in addition to my DJI Phantom 3 Pro, so no, it has nothing to do with me not wanting the Mavic to be good.
The first set of image samples is pretty obvious. Mavic is capable on focusing at close distances, and P4 focus is locked to infinity. Hence mavic produced a very sharp image and P4 result is really blurry. The second example is less obvious, but if you know that Mavic is 28mm and P4 is 20mm it's easy to see which craft shot which image. Just simple optics, no need to show any data to proof.

Yes, glad you mentioned the focus! Mant vid's I've seen have said it soft but did NOT focus the camera. Luvin the line "You have to focus on focusing" ;)

Great video! Did you do any postproduction on the Mavic's footage (like from 4:42) at all, or is it all untouched? If it's the latter, then the footage truly is spectacular.
