  • Time-lapse video showing the debris removal (sifting) and redistribution of over 40,000 cubic yards of sand, back onto the beach of Oak Island, NC as part of the recovery from the impacts of Hurricane Isaias in August 2020.
Compounded by a King Tide present during landfall, Isaias created a massive overwash of sand and debris, stretching several blocks from the beachfront. As soon as Sea Turtle Nesting season ended in late November, The Town immediately began the Sand Sifting & Redistribution Project, to clean (sift), load, and redistribute the overwash sand back onto the beach.
Updates on this project are posted on the Town website at www.OakIslandNC.com/DUNES
