I'd never heard of Trivium before I saw them live the first time, and I also have a lot of anxiety and just a general lack of self-acceptance. On the edge of the pit, I saw people diving to pull each other up when they'd fallen. I wasn't even moshing that day (too afraid, have since) and I felt more accepted there than I'd ever felt anywhere. The music and the community Trivium has is a truly beautiful thing.
Matt, your music and lyrics have done so much to help my now 14 year old son over the last 4 years and I hope that one day I have the chance to thank you in person for it. When COVID lockdown started things got pretty dark in our house but he’s bouncing back more and more every day and his guitar has been a critical in helping him cope with starting high school and all the other challenges that many teens face. We took him to his first Trivium show in 2022 and we’ll be going to MANY MORE! He even converted me, a 20+ year hardcore industrial fan 😜
My band played some shows with Trivium in Orlando when they were first just getting started in 2000. I remember that after Trivium would play...Matt was nowhere to be found. As where other guys from the band would hang out with us and everyone else. Makes total sense now!!
Matt has earned my respect since he once stopped mid show to help a crowd surfer that fell over the barrier, I once had a friend say that big bands, also Trivium, aren't doing it for the music and the shows anymore, not caring about their fans and their work, but Matt has definitely proven that wrong. Definitely one of my favourite people on earth.
Matt is just an incredibly nice person. Would really like to exchange a few words with him sometime, seems like a great role model too, as well as a great musician.
Zaronion I talked to him once and it was different than expected. He was so open and a great listening and you can tell he takes everything you say and cares about it, I've talked to many musicians and the best ones I've talked to were the guys from Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, and Queensryche. Matt Heafy is a great person
I really like what he said about the therapist: "going to a therapist doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you". Made me think, it's just like going to a personal trainer doesn't mean you're overweight. Both are just taking care of yourself. I like that. Always been a huge fan of Matt as well keep up the great work Trivium and You Rock Foundation.
Glad to See this Matt, feels good that I'm not the only one. The first song I geared from you guys was Down From The Sky in 2007 or so and I fell in love sort of speak. Your vocals have improved for the better. it's awesome how far you've come and hopefully I will too in a different way. Going to Ozzfest today can't wait to see you guys again tomorrow at Knotfest.
As a diagnosed sufferer & someone who has observed him for a while, I'd say he has Generalised Anxiety Disorder. High functioning, analytical & over-thinking.
One time I asked Matt after a show if I could hug him and he said "I saw you rocking out man you can do whatever you want"
its so great when u know that he took at least 1 second to notice you isnt it?
This is probably one of the best ones so far. He definitely seems like an introvert.
yeah.. introvert like me shy shy outside, screaming inside
GyroLamb orlando boy ... Florida mentality on things dealing with the mind and illnesses is really screwed up.
Just when I thought I couldn't love this man any more
"going to a therapist doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you". We need this mentality.. Just because we need help, does not mean we are weak.
Ricardo Meneses exactly this!
