I don't proclaim to know everything, so please add any facts and corrections in the comments section! I hope you enjoy the video!

Spain didn`t recognise Kosovo´s independence in 2008 because of their own problems with Catalonia.
Yes, I assumed as much. Otherwise, there's no reason a western democracy shouldn't recognise them
and Galicia
@@betmath Galicia and Basque Country can be included but it's mainly because of Catalonia
@haneymc Then, following your logic, all colonies shouldn't have gained independance ? Because they've nearly all stayed colonies for hundreds of years too
True
Yes, Rio de Janeiro was once capital of Portugal. It seems Portugal had a habit of doing that outside of mainland territory, another capital of the country was Angra do Heroismo, a city in the Azores islands
Круто то что португальцы независимы. Я всегда думал как они смогли остаться независимыми когда у них такой огромный сосед, и хорошо что есть выход к океану.
@@d.d890..britian was backing portugal for a long time
Because Portugal got taken over by Napoleon so the royals had to escape to Brazil
in azores was during a spanish invasion when we had no king and filipe II of spain invaded Portugal but some resist with a portuguese claimant to the throne in azores during some time
@@d.d890..Португалия часто воевала за независимость, и из раза в раз выходила победителем (кроме периода, когда была образована Иберийская уния, однако она просуществовала недолго), так что страна отстаивала независимость трудом и кровью
My parents also used Timbuktu as an expression to say something was a long way away. Such as, “It’s as far as from here to Timbuktu”. I never knew it was a real place until now though and I thought I was fairly decent at geography, until now 😮. Great video mate! First time watcher, will definitely come back.
Oh, so it's not just my crazy parents then! 😂
My mom said that too (my dad is African and never did). And Timbuktu is basically the Oxford of Mali. It was traditionally a college town and home of one of Africa’s oldest universities (it’s now defunct).
Did you know Timbuktu was a capital in the rebal group of Azawad in 2012.
Hey, i gotta say it’s brave of you to make this video! As an Indian, Kashmir has always been a taboo point of discussion. Your explanation of it is basically correct tho. The King of Kashmir turned to India for help, but it was too late by the time Pakistan had some form of control. In fact, the map in your book shows all of Kashmir as part of Pakistan, which isn’t the case. Of course, today, neither country is innocent. Pakistan has kicked out all Hindus from there side of Kashmir and India limits Islam on their side. It’s a sad situation 😔
Anyways, great video as always :)
I'm glad that I understood it correctly at least! Thank you for clarifying ☺️
> India limits Islam on their side
More like Kashmiri Muslims in India committed ethnic cleansing against their Hindu neighbours in the early 1990s.
But sure, "we limit Islam" in Indian Kashmir. Let's go with that so we can pretend there are faults on both sides etc. etc
Thank the Britts!
@@zigzagzugzug about 90% of all current worldwide issues are the British/English's fault! 😅

Transnistria is super interesting. During USSR it was very wealthy because it was a very industrialized region. When USSR collapsed, it turned into one of the poorest region of Europe and so trasnistrian want to be linked back to the original soviet origin: Moscow.

I'm from Galicia and I've done about 20-30 independence movements myself. We are an area of Spain that does not look like Spain at all. We are Celtic, like the Welsh. We have so much rain not like the rest of Spain which is hot and almost no rain. I love my region Galicia and I always refer to it as a country. It is said us and Catalonia would get independence before 2030.
I have read so much about Galicia and my friend is from there (she speaks gallego too, which is funny to me as my degree is in Spanish and Portuguese). I'd love an independent Galicia, Euskadi and Catalonia 💓

@@WelshASMR82Maps what do you mean by “i’d love an independent Galicia, euskadi and Catalonia”. As a Spanish person, Spain has always been one country and people who want independence are just extremely problematic. Also, it would be a huge problem for the economy, so no, we wouldn’t love an independent galicia, euskadi nor cataluña.
Anyways love your vids.
the reason Portugal’s capital was in Brazil is because Napoleon took over Portugal proper so the royal family moved it to brazil colony and this is also how the Brazilian empire became free

Belize does speak Spanish widely. It’s the native language of most of the country’s population (and most of the others speak Creole or Indigenous languages). English as an official language was because it was colonized by the British; a lot of people there speak it as a second or third language.

It is true one cannot be burried in Svalbard because of the permafrost. However it was the spanish flu that could be spread if the bodies were dug up, not the black plauge. The spanish flu first arrived in 1918 where seven people (mostly coal miners) perished as a result of the plauge.

Make a talk about America. Big fan of your work. I will wait
This has probably been said, but North America does have a disputed territory. The whole of Belize has been disputed since the 19th century, with Guatemala claiming ownership. The reason spain doesn't recongise Kosovo is because they have their own issue with the people of Catalonia, its a fairly similar situation so they don't want to recognise Kosovo as it could give legitmacy to Catalonia

Thing about Kashmir, as I recall, was the fact that the general population was mainly muslims but the monarch/ruler of the area was Hindu so he asked India for assistance, that's how the dispute started
Which happens to become a more complex issue since the Muslims in Kashmir are not truly native unlike Hindus etc so the situation itself intertwines w religion
@@user-fq9hv9rp6x Yes, so nobody knows how it came to be at this point. But what I know is that Kashmir is now a muslim majority and wants to join Pakistan, however, India isn't letting go
Yes, that's sort of how I understood it too. It's a very complex situation!

Apparently abkhazia has been around since medieval times which is something i think is kinda cool
Realllllly??
Abkhazia as any other region of Georgia has been a seperate kingdom or duchy at some point in history. In 8th-9th century all of the territories have been unified in one state.. After that in various centuries they would break apart due to several empire invasions, like Mongols, Persians, Ottomans, Russians and etc.

I believe that Bavaria is close to becoming disputed. Bavaria is the home of Nationalism and have the direct right to a lot of Nazi books. Bavaria also has the highest German percentage of people and have a very large different to most states in Germany. I could see a split of Baden snd Württemberg as the two have before due to some difference. Württemberg could apart of Bavaria rather than being their own state. I believe Bavaria should be independent as they have a rich economy, strong nationalism and will be a great use to Bavarians in Austria and Sud Tyrol.

I think in Canada the Unceeded Indigenous territories are disputed. Technically they have sovereignty as independent nations having never signed treaties to become part of the state of Canada, but Canada violates their sovereignty for mining and oil extraction, which leads to court cases and protests. Canada even has sent out the domestic military to back oil companies
I wonder what the stipulations are because they certainly could have mentioned more disputes. No mention of Western New Guinea in Oceania

Hello there! As a Russian I have to say that the LPR and DPR, despite being former Ukranian territories, do, in fact, so to say, identify themselves as russian territories. I was once in Luhansk. I heard that Quebec is disputed territory of Canada
I don't think it is disputed, but I remember there being a referendum to leave when I was younger
It's not exactly disputed (there is no country recognising Québec as an independent state, and the government of Québec itself doesn't make that claim either).
However, there were two referenda about Québec independence in the past, both ended narrowly with people deciding against independence. The Québec independence movement still exists and Québec is acknowledged by the govt of Canada as a "nation within a nation" due to its distinct culture and language.
Maybe one day Québec will be an independent nation (I hope so because I love Québec :D) but for now it is part of Canada.
Kosovo isn’t even on the map why are you complaining about it as if it was fully recignised it’s wrong and annoying. Learn some history look at Kosovo’s importance for serbians and then make a video on it and mention it as much as you like.
