Hello sir, I'm currently working on my first Snapper mower. I'm retired Army and I've been working on mowers since retired in 2020. I took over my father's business after he passed away in 2020. I have a 9hp Snapper made in the style as yours on the video. I learned a thing or two working on other lawnmowers but I can't get this one to rev up more nor does the choke work as it should, but it runs. Does not have the electric starter. It had been sitting for a while the guy that brought to me said it was given to him and he wanted me to fix it for him. Another thing, I can't get it to move, what steps would you take to see why it won't move. When I first cranked it up it move then stopped, what should I do?
Thanx for your service and sorry to hear of your father. Its hard if not impossible to help with a fix by a simple description. If the choke is stuck as it wont fully open, then perhaps the same is true for the throttle blade. Take off the carb and take it apart, clean it up, check the cables for the choke and throttle.. Usually, everything is dry, sticky and dirty!! Have fun with it, take plenty of pics and even a video before and during in case ya forget!
Your electrical demo was very helpful. My Snapper 28" RER made in 2000, has the blade engagement safety switch that you did not cover. I am wondering where I find this switch to test it.?
Great question! Someone else asked me to do a video on this as well Short answer is if ya just gonna pull the blade or do a quick cleaning then no.. Snapper says if the battery is installed (standard lead acid) then no more than 2 hours. Now mine has a leaky gasket on the dipstick tube, so yea it can make a mess.. If your going to store it over winter, take the battery and all fluids out!! Charge the battery, add fresh gas and oil for the new season and life will be just a little easier!
I brought a 90’s model snapper SR930 to republic of Panama, where there is not much support found. A battery is found to be $100 for a lead acid battery, I was wondering if a lithium battery could work for me ( I can have a lithium battery shipped from USA, it might cost a little more but be a better option) will a lithium work ?
Great story! Yes it will, something around 10 -20 amp hour I was approached by a battery company and I responded but haven't heard back. I wanted to do a video on just this question! I will ask them again, thanks for the reminder!
I use Transmission Fluid and I speak of this often. Tranny fluid has excellent properties. Used in a system of highly machined surfaces and tons of O rings. 2 stroke will work too but its waaaaay more expensive and not as good. I use 2 stroke to start up some engines that I feel may be dirty and dry. Glad you asked francis!!

Do you have to take fuel and oil out before turning it on its back?
Great question! Someone else asked me to do a video on this as well
