You thought retaining Marines was difficult already, wait till these Marines get their basic certifications and then look at their civilian job fields basic pay rates outside the corps...
Great to see a video on the cyber security part of the marines. I'm 16 and can't wait to get a cyber security job in that marines, but it's kind of hard to find good videos on it
as an 0311, I now appreciate what POGs do. Back then, I made fun of them, but now I realize how much of a role they play in deployments and time in the field. Semper Fi Devil Dogs!!!
@@danielflores6136 Bro I'm playing. If it weren't for the POGs a lot of shit wouldn't get done and a lot of the creature comforts we had in Iraq would be non existent. I really appreciated the cyber geeks keeping the phones and internet mostly working in Iraq. The staff NCO's who ran the chow-halls and were dicks to us for not being inspection ready because we were the ones doing the killing and the dying can go and fuck themselves. But hey they did keep the chow-halls clean and the food served so I appreciate that as well. I was a 0351 in Iraq 04-05 and 07-08. YWFMS!
I'm trying to enlist into cyber security in the Marine Corp. I already took my advab and got an 88 with a 132 gt so I qualify for it as far as I know ( I can't remember my other line scores I'd have to look at the paper) but I'm really interested in cyber security and want to get into it
No idea of training an education for these Marines. In sixties and seventies we were heavily trained in electronics and combat use of KY-8 machines. Four year enlistments and high GCT. As a ground tech was able to be in infantry units, but this sounds kind of detached from combat.
All respect Gunnery Sergeant you may not have had your coffee and smoke before them filming you, but really?! Could have at least showed a little bit of character in the video explaining the MOS a little better. For all of you that are leaving comments the 17XX MOS is completely new and only the 06XX MOS are being funneled into the 1700 MOS. Not to mention that Marines have been in cybersecurity partially for over the last 10 years. Not completely new, but being more announced now. Come next year I would expect those qualified will be able to enlist into this program field.
Man I just got out of boot with an 06 contact and my plan was to move to cyber security when I could and literally as soon I get in they make it, it's own field fml

Legit I know this gives some nerdy Marines opportunities and that cyberspace is a new domain of warfare, but I think this is too much of a desk job for the Marine Corps. No offense to data Marines, but I think this job should be given to the Navy. They support us anyway. The further you get from the fight, the less and less of a war fighting mentality the Marine Corps has.
There’s a few problems with your ideology without this space you would be taken out on the battle field due to enemy cyber attacks. They could shutdown all your communications and you would be on a field with nothing gone. Think before you type.
the deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his keyboard

If he ever gets doxxed the marine is just gonna beat the dude with the keyboard lol.

Study for your Asvab man. You need a GT score of at least 110 or so
Me too, I go to MEPS in two days
Cesar Gutierrez my IT Score was 98 last year, and i needed a score of 105 i thought (thats what the recruiter told me). Im taking my asvab again
Shit man we’re going to the same field and 18 now

Killing an enemy with a fucking keyboard is way harder than firing a shot at them.
Imagine a Marine beating someone with a keyboard

Nah bro they just send infantry out with 0 support . There’s actually no bases on deployment either . It’s just all fighting holes .

Only thing I can remember about my other scores was that my lowest was like 117 or 118
You can’t enlist into it. You need to be a senior Cpl or newer Sgt at minimum. So you have to enlist and then lateral move into it.

Too bad I am too old to reenlist. Glad to see the corps getting into cybersecurity.
Is this something you test into, or would my background working in IT and cybersec and my certifications allow me to request it?
Background does not matter, what’s most important is how you score on the tests. Based off of your background though you will likely qualify.

Not all MOS is involved directly with combat. There are Marines that fill in support and logistic billets.
