These were films that I know he knew were okay, i.e., movies where he did them simply for that 20 million paycheck. I am looking at you Eli, Quinn, Devil in a Blue Dress, Pelham, Out of Time, 2 Guns, Deja Vu, and maybe even Flight. These films were nowhere near his quality performances in Cry Freedom, Glory, Titans, Malcolm X, Fences, American Gangster, Training Day, Hurricane, and Crimson Tide.

When Denzel Won the Oscar for training day they were interviewing him backstage & They asked him if he thought he was worth his salary? Suddenly Julia Roberts ran up in the middle of the interview hugged him & said congratulations and ran off. While the reporters looked dumbfounded Denzel said yes we've been friends a long time. Then he said what was your ? The reporter repeated do you think you're worth your salary? Denzel said I can say this because Julia and I are good friends so let me ask you if she was standing here right now would you have asked her that question? The reporter stood there looking stupid!

And even after you’ve put in the work, keep your head down and focus on the next thing that will challenge you and inspire you. Every interview I’ve watched of his, he’s always dispensed solid advice or nuggets of experience.
