Thanks for the video mine was same spent days taking power switch out and buffering it like everyone was saying did what you did resoldered 31 32 and now no more blinking light cheers pal
Great troubleshooting video! The SX-550 was one of those receivers that always seemed to punch above its weight. With these gems now pushing 45 years old, they need a little TLC to keep purring along. Thanks for posting and your time.
Thank you for the comments. Recently I have repaired and listened to the vintage receivers with 20W/ch wattage (i.e. Marantz 2220B, Yamaha CR CR-420, Harman Kardon 330B & 330C.... etc). The Pioneer SX-550 is on the top of my list of the best receivers. It has very good FM reception with clear channel separations. And the overall sound quality is also excellent. It is worth to keep and I highly recommend it.
Most of stuff I owned and I also accept some gears from the local and out of state fans who need to get their equipment fixed. But it is selective base on my schedule.
Hi !! I just bought a vintage 1984 to 85 Pioneer sxv90 for repair. I used to have this system when I was a kid as it was my 1st stereo I bought as a kid in 1988. It doesn't make sound but turns on. I don't have it yet as I just bought it today. What should I look for 1st ?
I don't have manual or circuit diagram for svx90, so I can't give you any suggestions. There are many reasons can cause no sound output including blown fuses, speaker protection mode is activated, defective amp PCB and power supply.... etc. If you can provide me more details on the svx90, it may be helpful to analyze the problem.
I use a capacitor tester or multi-meter to diagnose the defective capacitors. Working off board is a better way to detect the problem. However, sometime it still can be found the defective capacitors on board with the tester.
When I was moving to another location I gave one of these , to an Idiot who I worked with,I said it would need an audio module,so he took it to the dump,I have not seen him in years, but I have a few choice words for him.Barty would be jumping,if he knew.
The lionshare of issues with these amplifiers is: 1) cracked solder joints 2) cracks on the boards themselves 3) dried up electrolytic capacitors and 4) oxidized potentiometers. 5) dirty switch contacts. Contact clean any pots and relays. Clean and inspect the board. Reflow solder Reace capacitors Solves 90 of issues woth amps. Its really not that difficult.

Great video as usual. Please what tool did you use to diagnose the two replaced capacitors? Have you worked on board or off board? Best regards. Like.

The flickering lamp was due to arcing at the power switch. Common problem.
I thought so to did same as this video and the flickering stopped
