It was carrying coal, the crew were evacuated during the storm . The helicopter here was dropping a pump to pump fuel/engine oil up from the lower tanks. The ship was towed off the beach and repaired.
Wow! When I look closely on this video.... I seems to realize that the view of this places is amazing for photography... plus those oil-liner on the background.
Newcastle Australia. Busiest coal port in the world at the moment.Ships waiting at sea empty their ballast to speed up turnaround time. Unfortunately a big low pressure weather system caught a couple of them out. With the hull high in the water the captain lost the fight against the wind. Two other ships almost ran aground that day.
@creamtt he was anchored off shore waiting to come in to port when a storm hit and the captain didnt follow the port authority warnings to move out to sea.
best decesion made ever in the maritime world, if the storm have bin get them on the sea maybe they all wikk be dead now, best decesion made by the captain
lol i was there when it ran aground, the waves were crashing over it completely and at one point you couldn't see it at all because of the spray from a wave. eventually after threee weeks they pulled it out with it out with sum massive 64 m long tug boat. it was pretty epic though!
base on the freeboard, the ship does not carry or loaded of oil except the one it uses,i think that ship was a newly built like 1 or 2 yrs old and for that it will be double skin or hull,.it ran aground on a beach,so probably its a soft sand there so nothing will in danger..this is called beaching(a maritime term for emergency)..to save the crew, the ship and the marine environment,.beaching the ship is barely legal.
@aceguyish Yeah they eventually did, they got all the tug boats from the area and waited until high tide and along with some other machinery pulled it off the reef. Pretty much the same approach with what they are doing in New Zealand atm.
Exactly - that was what happened.... there was a small leak of oil, which they fixed up rather quickly and some week or so later they got some massive tugs and tried to pull it out. It failed a couple of times, but they got it out in the end. The owners of the vessel told the public that they would fit the bill, but some months later the tax payer was stuck with it. Another sad fact is that this spot was a good surfing area prior to this incident, now the break has been ruined!
@ballznall6969 Believe it or not but my father was the acting (marine)pilot on the night the pasha bulker went up, He recalled screaming the captain, telling him he would be the next sigma if he didnt get going. At that stage all bar 3 ships had relocated. Its interesting to note that two other ships almost came adrift near bar beach and down near dudley however they were able to leave in a gap in the storm. By the time the Pasha realized they were in trouble, it was too late.
The master is Korean and the rest of crew is Philippine, one month prior this happened i was on board this vessel at Bontang Coal Terminal and almost fight with the master due to refused my advise during vessel shifting.
@kev8338 well, they were at anchor so either their anchor dragged or maybe the cable even snapped...plus they decided to stay anchored during crap weather. So all in all, one colossal fuck up!!!
Cuando la cámara efectúa una aproximación, se ve con claridad que lleva ambas anclas recogidas. Luego, no parece que al capitán le preocupase tanto encallar... :-/
@PanzerBlitz43 you realize im not in the marines... im a senior in high school, im 18, and im a volunteer firefighter right? i made this youtube account a long time ago, i use to be obsessed with the military but now i dont really give a shit

i remember that, it was sooooooo stormy for like two straight weeks, no letup at all!!
those waves still look strong.... lol and a nice rainbow too hahaha.
@creamtt he was anchored off shore waiting to come in to port when a storm hit and the captain didnt follow the port authority warnings to move out to sea.
looks perfect. softly rode up on an angle.
nice breakwall if they can't refloat or salvage...lol Condos ! sign me up. I want the anchor locker

TOPPPPP. MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CRETE GREECE
hey those rhymes are amazing!! ^^
Hey those rhymes are amazing!! ^^
At this point, the captain knew he should have bought the optional training wheels when he purchased the ship.
That's just normal. In Japan, a ship is on a 5 story building!

Pusha Bulker (now known as Drake) is a panamax class bulk carrier, not an oil carrier.
There's a boat full O gold at the end of the rainbow!
Maybe if the entire county came together they might be able to push it back ;D

The helicopter offered to lift the boat back to deeper waters but the captain of the ship said go away we are having a party.
@hellakooked no, it's actually gonna lift the ship up in the air and take it directly to the dry dock...
Thanks for loving the video
more beer please . .ay ay captain . .

the ship can run to the ground is lucky then exploion in sea.it still can use
Yes, good point, this was not an oil liner, it was a ship loaded with coal. My apologies - description adjusted.
Sorry Jamie; the ship was empty - it was waiting to come to port and load coal.
looking how high its sitting out the water i doubt it was in loaded condition to be that close in shore unless the tides gone out.lol
I was there when it happened
how are ships of this size got back into the seas once they run aground?
Вы крепко сели на мель, капитан Сильвер!
please someone tell me how the hell they are going to get that ship back out to sea... if this is already high tide?
so... i gotta tell you that this was deeply inspired from the Romanians ideea...
Reminds me of Madagascar the movie with the pinguins
They waited for a high tide and dragged it out with lots of tug boats. Surfing, apparently has never been the same there since!
apparently the chopper is rescuing people
@kev8338 well, they were at anchor so either their anchor dragged or maybe the cable even snapped...plus they decided to stay anchored during crap weather. So all in all, one colossal fuck up!!!
i remember this, the surf was going off at the time and the fucking boat was in the way
it was dropping off some supplies to try to fix the breach in the hull i think.
Its newcastle australia and yes they got it out
and how exaclty are they going to move that thing?
No, but because he did not pay and display he was towed away!
haha how do you do that, i mean your not gona tell me this guy did not see the shore. He was driving under the influence
ah no actually the reason that us australians were angry was because it had the potential to ruin a good surf break
XD
DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!
3:17
All the way
welcome to Rivet City...
how did they get it off the beach
what was the chopper doing?
This ship actually carried COAL and not oil. Oil Carriers have a different hull.
What kind of hull?
now how the hell do u get it off the beach?
Some random double rainbow interrupted my view of that ship!!!
bit like the riverdance in blackpool all over again
很好。。。
the skipper surely need a lot of beer......after his ship aground......mmmhhhe
how the hell does this happen with all the electronic equipment, radar, satelite nav etc??? this isnt Christpher Columbus erra people..jeez
Is this New Castle in Delaware?
how do they pull that thing out??
This is no oil carrier.
Black gold at the end of the rainbow.

where's Greenpeace to push her back in? Atl lease the waves are keeping her wet.
He made up for it with his talents as a thespian.

If this is the UK, why is there a Huey helicopter in this video? Our island doesn't have Hueies. 0_0
chris murphy That would be because it's not the UK
Jack Novak Nobby's Beach is in Newcastle, England so therefore, it is not American.
chris murphy Nobby's Beach is also in Newcastle, Australia.
Jack Novak Newcastle is in the East Coast of Britain.
chris murphy Newcastle is also in Australia.
